I hate to hear people coming out with some unproven fact that spanking children is inhumane. I am predicting that twenty or thirty years down the road, we will see the sort of people who will lead us. I am throwing a challenge to those "experts" about this debate to contact the brains in our society like Mahama, who is currently the president of Ghana as to whether spanking a child put fears and often leads to school drop out?
Look at the quality of education in the 50s, 60s, 70s and that of today and the sort of children being churned out? We are allowing the West to fool us into accepting their nonsense knowing very well that somewhere down the road, disaster awaits.
Who spanks a child in the US and what can one tells about the attitude of children in the US? Children in the US are among the most violent in the world. These children go to school with guns, knives etc in their backpacks and do not hesitate to kill people just to prove how tough they are. Who spank these children and why are they so violent? Just cast your mind back in the good old days where children know how to speak to an adult. Do we see that today and question is why? When we enters the age of "uncontrolled system" it is then that we will realize how foolish we have been by accepting the stupidities of the West.
I live through that period and I love it because it instilled discipline in me which guided me to who I am today. I respect people, know how to talk to the elder and can survive in any situation that I find myself in.
Those experts should wait and see the outcome twenty or thirty years down the road. We are sowing a bad see that will germinate, grow and yield sour fruit which is not eatable.

In the name of spanking, I have seen students bleeding in school- one of my grade school teachers slapped a classmate on the mouth and he bled; I wonder whether his teeth had been affected by it- also what is the self esteem of that pupil everytime he relives that experience in his mind and the humiliation it caused?
There are Ghanaians walking around with emotional, and physical scares from over beating... My mom's best friend used to beat her younger sister who was living with her all the time, for any small thing, because of her own anger issues..ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...
I believe in spanking but it should not be a free ticket for teachers particularly to unleash their frustration on someone else's child...
I think parents who overstep what is an acceptable norm must be made to deal with the rigors of the law- the state must protect the vulnerable in society and children qualify as this....
I do understand that Ghana is heading towards a "southern slippery slope" bc now Moslems want devotion out of schools, and this spanking/beating issue too-....... I don't know what the answer is but they MUST NOT be politicized.

While I understand your argument, you will also agree with me that we need to spend more time to understand our children, what motivates them etc and see how best to bring them up in a friendly and loving environment. Hard discipline might not always have the intended results. In fact it can create more violence where the child who is beaten goes ahead to beat others.

This continues to be a hot topic not only for schools, but also in the homes. Many parents will attest to being at the cross roads on disciplining their children. Many will say that were it not for the firmness of their own parents, they wouldn't be where they are today. But times have changed. The challenges of current times, technology, busy parents, stressed children etc. make it imperative for everyone to think of the best alternatives to corporal punishment.
