We ask for the support of all for Mzbel, recognizing that one can "...not fall on...own(s) sword..." in the application of one's critical faculties to the fundamental questions about the nature of man and the beliefs that are, and underpin the culture(s) and man.
One does "...not fall on...own(s) sword..." when one still holds the bully pulpit, the microphone! That, we submit, is the bigger voice in Ghana where it matters most, today
We are hopeful that Mzbel is strong enough!
We are hopeful Mzbel will stay clear-minded, critically grounded!
We are hopeful Mzbel will stay productive in all her endeavors, and will reach the highest heights in her profession, wherever she may turn.
We believe that in that brief statement Mzbel answered a fundamental question will begin to provide practical answers to many people who are open minded. We saw evidence on that in the numerous comments under the several articles and columns featured on Ghanaweb.
On the other hand, this essay, in all its 1,600 words, does not provide a single practical answer to the burning question addressed by Mzbel in that terse statement merely 2 weeks ago.
We salute Mzbel!

I always ask this question: if religion is helping us to go see God and go to heaven then why so many killings, fighting and factions in Islam and churches? All is abt money, power and control of the masses. Ghana cannot develop because we were taught from infancy that there is nothing good in us. we name our children after white people like Mathew, james etc becos our ancestors were 'useless" When we need economic growth, whiteman: IMF. If we need our national team to win a trophy, we need a white coach. Even if we need to go heaven we have to belief in a whiteman.
As Bob Marley said: we need to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery. Mr Sarfo may God of our ancestors bless you.

When you fly in an aeroplane, the person at the controls mentions his name at the beginning of the flight as Captain X and that he (she these days), will be in charge of the flight. There have been cases in the UK, Australia, the US and many civilised countries where a butcher has been able to enter a well- established hospital and operated on patients. There similar cases with other professions. Captain X in our flight could be a carpenter or bricklayer, but because you might have flown numerous times with this particular airline or any number of other airlines, you trust that Captain X is indeed a trained and experienced pilot, and will take you safely to your destination. That is faith!
We deposit our children in schools and leave them there and get on with our lives till the end of the working day. Yet we know that there have been monsters masquerading as teachers. We have even known of students entering schools and butchering fellow students. So why do we think tomorrow, Tuesday March 3rd 2015, school will be perfectly fine for our kids? It is faith.
Our underdevelopment has nothing to do with belief in God or any deity, for that matter. It is simply because for us Black people, especially, we do not know exactly who or what we are, and that is Mzbel’s problem! When Blacks in America sell drugs to 7 year olds and turn them into junkies, or murder each other with unbelievable cruelty, does that have anything to do with religion or faith?
When in 1961 Ghanaians accepted that 99.9% of Ghanaian voters had voted for a republic with one party in spite of the fact that there were strong pockets of opposition in nearly every region of Ghana, did that have anything to do with faith or religion? Just a few examples.
Believe it or not, the pioneers who built the “Great America” that we know today did so by faith, mostly Christian faith! Interestingly enough from the Greeks through the Romans to South Korea, no nation has ever conquered deprivation without belief in some one thing or other!

This is where you got it wrong. If you examine my assertions in the context of religious faith, you will find answers as to why "we do not know exactly who or what we are".

This is a clear case of a parrot speaking the Queens language better than the Queen herself.
Can anybody who made any sense out of it please bring the substance of it down to earth for some of us earthlings to comprehend?

I also think that if the faith is making us responsible individuals and honest and righteous, I could live with it. But for the most part, it makes us hypocritical. irresponsible and fanatical.
There is a prima facie argument to be made that our faith has not helped us very much. But if our religion could be hinged on a strong commitment to do the right things to the best of our abilities, there could be a compelling argument for its sustenance, even if only on account of its benefits to the society. Right now, the shift has been heavily weighted in favor of faith to the detriment of reason.
Christians are quick to say that we live by grace, and not by law; or that our righteousness is like rags before God. That is how they wiggle out of their responsibility to be good people. Remember some live by the faith that if they cut off people's head, their blood will pave the way to heaven!
