The following is for comic relief but it shows how desperate Nkrumah was for power. The Young Pioneer Movement was formed for early indoctrination of the nation's children with Nkrumaism. These kids got together very often at the Arts Center for training and instruction. These daily Activities were well coordinated but there was one particular event that climaxed the days activities. At a certain point the officers will instruct the kids to ask God to give them toffee, a candy of brittle but tender texture made by boiling sugar and butter together. After several unanswered requests the officers will instruct the disappointed kids to take their toffee request to Osagyefo Kantamanto Oseade3yo Dr Kwame Nkrumah if they'd any luckier. As soon as the petition is made to Nkrumah hundreds of toffee will start dropping from the ceiling. Yes, these kids were being indoctrinated at that early age to look up to Nkrumah for all their needs. They owed their allegiance to none other than Kwame Nkrumah and were instructed on how to eavesdrop on their parents conversations. This is how the culture of silence was begun in Ghana . Parents became scared of their own children and the culture of silence was suddenly introduced into the body politic and prevailed until 1966 when he was overthrown. Nkrumah had tried to introduce the YPM on every high school campus but met some redistance. The then headmaster of Mfantsipim School Rev W.G.M. Brandful rejected the idea on the grounds that Mfantsipim School belonged to the Methodist Mission. He was fired by Nkrumah and and his replacement was one J.W.Abruquah, a chain smoking Nkrumah loyalist.

Look at Yaya Jamme of the Gambia, Mogabe of Zimbabwe, Museveni of Uganda and Kabila of Congo. Eyademah would have been ruling Togo today if he were alive.
Nkrumah studied in the USA and UK but returned to Africa as if he had never heard about democracy before and imprisoned political opponents for life and even denied the relatives decent burial when they died. Nkrumah was a personification of evil. Nkrumah was a tyrant.

The coup in Ghana is another example of a fortuitous windfall. Nkrumah was doing more to undermine our interests than any other black African. In reaction to his strongly pro-Communist leanings, the new military regime is almost pathetically pro-Western.
The point of this memo is that we ought to follow through skillfully and consolidate such successes. A few thousand tons of surplus wheat or rice, given now when the new regimes are quite uncertain as to their future relations with us, could have a psychological significance out of all proportion to the cost of the gesture. I am not arguing for lavish gifts to these regimes—indeed, giving them a little only whets their appetites, and enables us to use the prospect of more as leverage.
