Dr. Arthur Kennedy is reported to have said that Dr. Danquah's relatives should sue people who call him a traitor based on info they got from "JFK: Ordeal In Africa" by Prof. Mahoney (son of William Mahoney the US Ambassador in Ghana in the early 1960s) about Dr. Danquah.
This is what Professor Mahoney wrote (pages 184 - 185):
"The matter concerned Dr. J.B. Danquah, Nkrumah's opponent in presidential elections of 1960, who was released from prison a few months after Mahoney's arrival as ambassador. Danquah paid a visit one November day to the embassy to ask Mahoney why the funds his family had been receiving during his imprisonment had been cut off after his release. This was the first time that Mahoney had heard of the arrangement. After Danquah left, he summoned the CIA chief of station to ask why he had not been advised of the agency's association with Danquah. Dissatisfied with the explanation, Mahoney flew to Washington two days later and personally informed Kennedy about the matter.
The President reacted sharply to the news and told Mahoney that he had sent a letter to all ambassadors in May 1961 making it clear that their authority extended to all phases of embassy decision making. Kennedy then telephoned CIA Director John McCone and told him that he was sending Mahoney over to CIA headquarters and wanted the matter resolved immediately. The understanding that emerged from the meeting at Langley was that 'no undertakings of any kind, even remotely involving our situation in Ghana, would either be continued or launched without the ambassador's knowledge and approval'"(Ref 149).
Ref 149: "This account is drawn from OHWPM [Oral history of William P. Mahoney], JFKL [John F. Kennedy Library] and William P. Mahoney Jr. to the author , July 21, 1977.
What work did Danquah do for the US Embassy to pay him while in prison?
Draw your own conclusions.

The deceit and atrocious lies being peddled by these elements in society is heartbreaking and nauseating to say the least. It goes to show how far Akuffo Addo and his ilk would go to throw dust in the eyes of the people to elevate a traitor and murderer JB Danquah.
As I have said many times, Dr. Nkrumah was too good for his own good. These bomb throwers, JB Danquah and Kofi Abrefa Busia should have been hanged for their crimes against the state, period! These criminals (that is really who they were) caused so much havoc and fear to the extent it thwarted Nkrumah's effort in making our country a showcase of Africa. These coup plotters connived with the US and its allies to deny Nkrumah the much needed loan in an attempt to squeeze him out of office during economic downturn.
The magnanimous Nkrumah should have taken a page from his friend and counterpart, Lee Kuan Yew, and how he summarily eliminated his arch rival Lim Chin Siong and paved the way for himself to transform a mere marshy land to a First world status.
Politics is not for the weak or the faint of heart; Nkrumah was a visionary but not a true politician. I wonder what Ghana would be like today, if he had eliminated these traitors and bomb throwers or confined them to rot at Nsawam, and continued with his development plan for the country just as Lee Kuan Yew did for Singapore? I suppose Ghana would have been a shinning star in a very dark continent with an astronomical income per capita just like Singapore.

The grants and loans were released to the 'quasi-military' "National Liberation Council" soon after the coup of 1966.
Is there a link between the NLC and the National Liberation Movement (NLM) which was essentially the opposition at the time? Or is it a mere coincidence that the two names were so similar?

I am not surprised you idolize a CIA agent, traitor, and ritual killer. Those of us from Akyem Abuakwa are very apprehensive and touchy about this murderer and nation wrecker, JB Danquah except his deranged and power drunk nephew, Akuffo Addo. How can a nation of sound mind idolize a man like JB Danquah.
You know, you are one black man who is the main reason for my repulsion for my own race. You are devious, irresponsible, and lacking basic common sense. It is a complete waste of my time to have an intelligent discourse with you.

From what you have copiously written elsewhere, your "repulsion for your own race" is never in doubt, and it is a good thing that you now confess it here. But leave me out of your extreme hatred and contempt for your own race: you harbored these long before you encountered me, and you will die in it like a dog. My shock is that you also consider yourself of sound mind and educated.....an outlier of sort who adores Nkrumah. Therein lies the archetypal irony...that Nkrumah's ideas about the Black man could not cure you of your self-induced diffidence and identity crisis. So you will forever remain cursed with your inferiority complex as a black person who harbors a repulsion for his own race and tries to justify it at every opportunity. You make Nkrumah's type of education very toxic!
And if I may ask, how does J.B. Danquah's role as a defense attorney for those accused in the killing of Akyea Mensah make him complicit or accomplice in the crime of murder? To your mind, am I a murderer because as a defense attorney, I defend murderers? Is that your illiterate reasoning and that of those patently stupid Nkrumaist cohorts with whom you consort?
And how do you conclude that J. B. Danquah was a nation wrecker if the man was never given the due process for the government to prove same? How do we conform to the legal parlance that a man is innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court of law if we shriek a man's guilty who never faced any trial?
Your statement, ". You are devious, irresponsible, and lacking basic common sense" is a good one, only that it must be inscribed on your forehead. And for your information, "intelligent discourse" and you are a thousand light years apart. Unfortunately, you share a valid lineage with the Nkrumaist cabal with whom you are now at home.

1. We don't have a junior counsel in America; one can argue before the US Supreme Court right out of Law School. The seminal case legalizing abortion in the USA, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, 505 U.S. 833 (1992 was argued by a woman right out of law school. I have my own law firm which I set up right from law school, and I have argued cases (as first chair) in both federal and state courts which many who have stayed in the profession for decades have never had the chance to argue. I qualify to argue cases at the US Supreme Court, and I will soon.
2. Bachelors, and in many cases the masters degree, are all prerequisites for the JD. In my case, I studied for my bachelors and masters in English in Ghana and came to the USA to study for my doctoral degree in law (J.D). Very few Ghanaians who studied in Ghana have managed to do this. And you can easily check this out on the internet. The JD is a doctoral (terminal) degree which qualifies one to assume the highest office within every legal system, school and jurisdiction in the USA and elsewhere.
3. LLM is a purely academic degree on a different track and you cannot compare the certificate with the Juris Doctor (J.D) which is professional doctorate like the MD. LLM is mostly for those who want to specialize in a very narrow area of law for purposes of research and teaching, and the degree cannot make you a lawyer here in the USA.
4. My very first case after Law School was an appeal in a murder case. And I do qualify to be appointed counsel for a murder defendant in the public defense system.
5. But I can understand that as an Nkrumaist, you think only Nkrumah can achieve great feats, but not you. Besides, you cannot reason, let alone research for any truth. Truthism, i.e. your wishful version of truth suffices for your concretized brain.
6. I a privileging you with a response now because, like a virus, you are spreading too much falsehood here. Besides, fair-minded others deserve some information. And don't call me boastful because you began spreading lies which I must debunk. Moreover, you must by now test my integrity as a lawyer by my arguments here. If you do objectively, you will see that I am good in what I do. I mean, look out how I make fools of these Nkrumaists even when I am half asleep.

You can misled the gullible but not experience operatives like me.Let me explain. The JD like the BL or in uk post graduate diploma is below the llm as a degree. The JD is equivalent to the BL or post graduate diploma which is the professional certificate to practice to practice law so if you give the impression that it is higher than llm which you have to do before a phd then you must either be ignorant or a cheat.
This is what the American bar says of the JD and I quote
"The Juris Doctor (JD) degree is required to practice law in the United States. It is considered the first degree in law. The JD degree is offered by American Bar Association (ABA)-approved law schools, by law schools that are not ABA-approved, and by many Canadian law schools"
And now finally I quote what the American Bar say of LLM
The LLM Degree
The Master of Laws (LLM) degree is considered an advanced law certification that has global credibility. LLM programs offered by US and Canadian law schools are desirable for international students who wish to gain global credentials and for JD graduates who desire advanced legal study.
A first degree in law is required for admission into an LLM program.

And how do you expect me to answer you now? What am I supposed to do to prove my doctoral status to you after you have formed a concretized opinion that I do not Have a doctoral degree?
Nothing you say here invalidates anything I said above.
1. You place a value judgment on my skills as a lawyer without any knowledge of my skills as a lawyer. I will ignore you.
2. You make up your own hierarchy of degrees by ignoring the trajectory I have shown you to the Juris Doctor degree. I have stated that you need a fist degree and sometimes masters degree to get to the JD. Your answer is that it is equivalent to a first degree. From the first degree, you need NINETY CREDIT HOURS to get to the JD. Most Ph.D's require less than seventy credit hours. How did the J.D become a first degree under this cicumstances? Now I see that you have promoted JD to a post-graduate diploma! This shows your cluelessness.
3. Since you quoted the ABA, you will have seen that the JD is indeed the first POFESSIONAL DEGREE in law which is equated to the MD and the Ph.D. Also that we JD holders are entitled to use the honorific title of "doctor". Let me add that I was not hallucinating when I wore the doctoral gown and joined Ph.D and other doctoral graduates to have a "Juris Doctor"( Latin for Doctor of Law) degree conferred on my person. My certificate on my wall says I am a Juris Doctor degree holder with all the privileges appertaining. One privilege appertaining is my prerogative to use the title of "Doctor", and I shall.
What is more, I passed my Bar exams upon my first sitting, while many Ivy leaguers sat multiple times.
4. Your quote:
"LLM programs offered by US and Canadian law schools are desirable for international students who wish to gain global credentials and for JD graduates who desire advanced legal study"
does not compare the JD with the LLM. International students who study the LLM are not going to be higher in academic or professional level with the lawyers here who have JD degrees just because they studied for twenty-seven credit hours for an LLM. The JD students who go for LLM are seeking focused studies for purposes of research and teaching. They are not higher than the JD holders.
5. By the way, as a Young Pioneer, you are eternally brainwashed. You can never read and understand anything: you have a concretized opinion which you only read to validate. You have illiterately researched this matter and arrived the same way as you began...that a JD is a first degree.
What am I supposed to do for you now. I don't believe that my certificates or gown with thee stripes or hood can convince you. That is why you are an Nkrumaist, and I am not. The extent of your understanding is in bleating shibboleth on a daily basis.

I have shown you the trajectory to a JD for you to understand. I have argued that you also read in the ABA site that JD is comparable to a Ph.D. You never disputed this. I have told you that I graduated with other doctoral graduates with the same ritual and ceremony. You are not disagreeing. I have told you of the number of post graduate credit hours required for the JD, which is often far higher than the Ph.D. You acquiesce. What is now your beef?

I need to clarify here that if you need information on those who faked their doctoral degree, you have one as your idol. Nkrumah came to America with the hope of studying Law. But he failed to achieve his dream. When he arrived in Ghana, he had Masters degree but dubiously claimed that he had a doctoral degree. He regularized the fraud upon the later conferment of the honorary degree LLD upon him. Nkrumah therefore never studied for his doctoral degree but faked the title for years before getting an honorary one. So if you are objectively looking for fake doctors, begin with Kwame Nkrumah, a man who was born on Friday but goes with a day-name of Saturday; a man whose birthday fell on an altogether different day from these two days, and a man who could not pay his passage back to his motherland but destroyed all those who paid for him.

Akwasi Prempeh, tell us what Mahoney wrote about Nkrumah's support of racial segregation in America on CBS-TV News, as well as what Mahoney reports Senegalese President Leopold Sedar Senghor to have said about Nkrumah's said of mind; also, how Nkrumah assassinated President Sylvanus Olympio of Togo.
Let me repeat what I wrote in my forthcoming small collection of volume on the Mahoney book:
If Danquah, just out of prison and learning that the US Embassy has been financially assisting his deliberately starveled family, by Nkrumah's arbitrary imprisonment of their main brainwinner, Dr. Danquah, and also that the payments got cut/stopped as soon as Nkrumah released Danquah from prison, had gone to the US Ambassador to ask why such assistance had been abruptly stopped, when he had yet to resume his forcibly suspended practice, what does this tell the reader?
First of all, were Danquah a local CIA operative, the payments to his family would not have been cut, they would have instead been directly paid to him and substantially so. Then also, Danquah would not have petitioned Ambassador Mahoney for continuation of financial-assistance payments to his family, while he found himself gainfully employed, once against. Remember:The sole purpose of Nkrumah's imprisoning Danquah was to destroy his archnemsis and his family.
Also, why would Danquah approach the American Ambassador for the furtherance of financial assistance to his family, instead of the CIA Station Chief/Attache?
The reason is simple: Danquah thought the payments came from a sympathetic American government, represented by Ambassador Mahoney, that had been studiously following his plight, Nkrumah's dastardly attempts to humiliate and destroy Dr. Danquah, which Nkrumah eventually did!
If Ambassador Mahoney was caught flatfooted, as his son alleges, it was because as a non-career diplomat, he simply did not know how the Agency (CIA) operated.
President Kennedy may well have been "playing it safe," when he wrote that innocence-feigning letter.

You have a point here; but treason must be proven beyond all reasonable doubt since the mantra of the law is that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. In this context, Danquah is immortalized in his innocence, since he cannot be exhumed to stand trial.
But aren't you making too much out of nothing? Nkrumah was a brutal dictator, and once that matter of his brutal dictatorship is is irrefutably presumed, the manner of his overthrow becomes moot, even if it means cooperating with a foreign government or using armed struggle.
I have stated elsewhere that if Nkrumah's nonsense were to happen again in Ghana, I will be the first to cooperate with the CIA to restore democracy. So far, nobody has questioned this assertion or called me traitor.
But a legalistic analysis of this whole statement that Danquah accepted payments from the CIA could be viewed in the context of inadmissible hearsay and dismissed with contempt. Remember that this statement is written by someone who also heard it from somewhere. So we have a double hearsay here. But it could be argued that the statement falls under the hearsay exception of treatises or news items. But the problem here is that it does not measure up, since several corroborative pieces of evidence must come in to support the validity of the statement. So far the Nkrumaists are quoting only one author. Thus the statement lacks support and will be dismissed with contempt for now.
To strengthen their case, the Nkrumaists must go beyond Danquah's acceptance of payments from the CIA to tell us the nature of evidence they have that he was collaborating with the CIA to overthrow Nkrumah. This will help us to establish a scintilla of sanity in his imprisonment, but still not his denial of due process. Thereafter, they must tell us what is wrong with seeking foreign assistance to overthrow a bloody dictator.

Nkrumah could have checked himself into prison after his overthrow and be tried for high treason; then due process will apply in this context. If jailed without proper trial , that will be patently wrong.
Absence this, we prove a thing by the definition assigned to it. We prove Nkrumah's dictatorship by the definition we give to a dictator. And the historical record is indisputable that Nkrumah was a brutal dictator. You can dispute all the claims we have made that he was a dictator with a counter record. For example you can dispute that there was no PDA, or that he did not declare himself life president, or that he did not make the country one party state.....
J.B. Danquah was imprisoned without due process or a trial. Nkrumah could have surrendered himself to the new authorities to be tried. Then he could assert his right to due process in spite of his PDA. I will be amenable to that. But I don't see how we could have given due process to someone who escaped to Guinea and died without ever facing justice or staking a claim for due process.

Some of us understand why people like you continue adore J.J Rawlings who killed innocent people just for power grab. Yes, J.B died in the hands of Nkrumah- head of state. Who else should be blamed for his death. Of course, Nkrumah had to go. But there was no legitimate means to let him go other than through coup d'etat. When you skim the whole nation to win elections and make yourself life president, that is the only way we could get rid of a zealot and 'low-life scum' like Nkrumah. We will forever be grateful to the CIA if indeed they play a role in his overthrow. Perhaps Samia will be running this country because Nkrumah is/was her father.

The fact that a latter gov't passed the law establishing the physical edifices does not take away the fact that all things start as an idea.

The writer also told you the Germans had it in mind already even before 1914. It was not JB's idea but at least Nkrumah executed it. Your JB Dankwa asked the question but wanted someone else to do it. He was busy making money and had to bring in Nkruma for the leg work. could not win to execute his agenda and even lost to his own wife in his own town. Think about that. Today you seek to twist his role in politics and economics and all. He was really a greedy selfish fellow who did things for only gain but nothing else. If he was so adored why did the Abuakwa area reject him for mp? The current opposition is toeing the same style of hardline politics hoping that the Ghanaian will bite. Let's be careful for they might not. By flooding the airwaves, the opposition hopes to make every body see that, the pepeni is not cut for it. The people may still want to retain him just as the did for the demonised Nkruma. I thing that Nana should sell his potentials and stop this antagonistic attitude towards Nkrumah. We could land you the presidency. Your JB did his part but not like Nkrumah.

So, all these major landmarks that Ghana proudly boasts of were JB Danquah's idea, he "who had no legislative position" according to Akufo Addo, yet somehow his nemesis Kwame Nkrumah 'stole' these ideas and IMPLEMENTED THEM to the letter!! How very amazing? And you call him a "dimwit" "demented and paranoid" (according to Ahoofe)!!
Let us assume (for arguments sake) that all these big projects were Danquah's ideas. Was he involved in the design? the blue prints? the architecture (or at least the hiring of the experts)? finding the money for the projects etc.?
As i recall it, after all our national funds had been exhausted prosecuting these huge projects which have been the foundation of our national development to date, there were cries that Nkrumah had "stolen our monies" and that he had "wasted" our resources, a cry we continue to hear today of what the current government is doing with our resources without acknowledging the actual tangibles.
In the meant time the same opposition had connived with external interests to stop the flow of loans and grants to Ghana for the very purpose of continuing our developmental efforts and building the very monuments that we all now agree were necessary.
So we can never win can we? On the one hand, your man had all the best ideas, on the other, the person who then took them and executed them is vilified, called names, ridiculed, even attempts made on his life. He is said to be no good and eventually gotten rid of with the help of external elements.
Now we want to glory in the ideas rather than their actual realization and the one who led the process? How fair or reasonable is this?
It is about time we Ghanaians started to think seriously about our nation and stopped all this nonsense of 'hiding behind dead individuals' to propagate the same old divisive and unproductive philosophies and agendas which are selfish and not in our national best interests.

For those who doubt historical accounts of J.B. Danquah and activities of his cowardly bunch I say to you look around and it will not be hard to see that NPP has been engaged in activities of their foreparents trying to incite demonstrations in an attempt to make Ghana ungovernable. At the fore of these treasonous activities of the NPP are Danquah kinfolks and another supposedly educated Okyehene. The NPP and others can choose to be blind and dumb all they want and may even take others along their journey of history rewrites but the truth will not go away.

My "teacher-ship" experience required me to start with the basics, i.e. meanings and definitions. If by meaning and definition, Ghana does not fall into the category of an "independent" nation in the real meaning of the word, the question as to who opposed it becomes moot, since independent did not exist.
Let me set up a syllogism for you:
"Independence" means freedom and justice and liberty
Ghanaians did not have freedom and justice and liberty under Kwame Nkrumah
Conclusion: Ghanaians did not have any independence under Kwame Nkrumah!
If you extend the syllogism further, you will also agree that Ghanaians suffered a brutal dictatorship under Kwame Nkrumah. Just begin by trying to define who is a brutal dictator.
I can see now that I have wasted my time respecting someone who cannot reason well when it comes to the issue of Nkrumah. How did you manage to deceive me for a whole decade? I can only say that in this respect, you are as good as Nkrumah!

As I read through your article I kept wondering what banned substance you are on. Maybe it's a hangover effect from drinking too much free liquor at the President's reception for team Black Stars.
The PDA was passed by the partisan CPP majority in Parliament before any bomb was thrown. After they used their parliamentary majority to declare Nkrumah as President for life they expected fierce opposition from the other side of the aisle so the PDA was passed to nip any opposition in the bud. It was also to intimidate the
opposition. It was a bad idea to declare Nkrumah as life president.
How does Ametor justify passing the PDA to detain terrorist elements without trial? Without trial? It was unlawful and flawed from the get go. They just found a way of silencing and subdueing their fiercest critics and opponents for ever to give Nkrumah undue advantage. What will Ametor say if a future NPP president and a majority NPP parliament re-enact the PDA, make the NPP president a life president and start jailing NDC stalwarts without trial? That was a shameful blot on our history and the CPP apologists will do well to shut their mouths even if they don't want to condemn anything Nkrumah and the CPP did that was a subversion of the constitution they swore to uphold. There could not have been peace without justice. Where there's no justice there's no peace.

"The PDA was passed by the partisan CPP majority in Parliament before any bomb was thrown."
I think you are rather on a banned substance or you want to rewrite history. The PDA was a reaction to assassination attempts on Nkrumah, CPP functionaries and supporters of CPP, which began in 1955. The home of the regional chairman of CPP was bombed on Jan., 6 1955; Nkrumah himself was the target of an explosion while sitting on the verandah of his house on Nov. 10 1955, and he had to rush into the house to make sure that his mother was safe. There was a dynamite explosion at the Kumasi Central Market on Jan 8 1955, followed by the murder of Krobo Edusei's sister in Kumasi. Another bombing occurred at the Accra Sports Stadium on Nov., 17, 1955.
The PDA was a logical sequence to these terrorist acts; if not, what would a good leader do to protect himself and the citizens?

Very disappointed by this presentation. Why for the sake of politics, people can cause to degrade once achievement when at the time it was so needed? Where was the writers father and relations when this struggle , detention and death was on going for the attainment of the country's independence? I watch the programme on News file over the weekend, and you could not substantial from the document you had to buttress the same point you are raising now in your presentation. You have already made up your mind because J.B. Danquah is associated with the opposition party which will be seen to have contributed more to the libration of this country and will take credit for it which will go against your party. I think the best for you to have rather done, is for you to mention someone who is affiliated to your party or might have contributed to the betterment of this country, which in addition to what J.B has done for this country, will have moved us to a better place than we are now. You could have talked about your founder of the NDC(J.J. Rawlings) or your recent demised President Uncle Ataa Mills, who died while in office and during the period that the NDC was in power and still is, was more praised and canonized than J.B.Danquah and you will have gained more points for your party than what you trying to do now.
As at that time of our political history, all one can do was to advocate by writing letters, forming of pressure groups, etc. No one created or built any infrastructures. Nkrumah never built anything before independence but only did what J.B. has already started. Advocating and forming of a pressure group( the CPP). So prior to Independence and before independence J.B.'s contributions to the attainment for our independence can be said to be more than what Nkrumah did. Let me say that at his time he raise issues on those institutions that you claim he did not create but only mentioned them as you seen to portray during his time. Looking at the prevailing conditions then, that could attributed to creation. But the beat thing J.B did that Nkrumah could not do was the foundation and the enabling environment that he created, bringing and the maintenance of Nkrumah before he could attain power and achieve what he did for Ghana. Yes, J.B, you were a canon and greater than Nkrumah before independence.

Kofi you are right.Doubting if really he holds Ph.D and teaches english. Read paragragh 4 "while he found himself gainfully employed once against".Okoampa should bury his face in shame
It is time!
We require mature, responsible, Ghana-centered NPP leadership on this issue. NPP should not define itself with opposition to Nkrumah, with Akosombo Dam, etc.
Akuffo-Addo's was a start, even if it was a fals ...

Okoampa says Issa Salifu. You say Salifu Dagarti...Can we get the name right?
The police officer is salifu dagarti. By his word shall you know him. Ahoofe is such a liar and obfuscator. That is how he managed to churn out more rubbish and more rubbish time and time again. Don't believe a word from him.
I wunder how people find time to read Oko Amper`s articles . Because the man is writing trying to feed the masses with rubish
Some of us understand why people like you continue adore J.J Rawlings who killed innocent people just for power grab. Yes, J.B died in the hands of Nkrumah- head of state. Who else should be blamed for his death. Of course, N ...

Is it true that Danquah demanded the British not to grant independence to the Gold Coasters?Thank you.
Yes!
Because Danquah knew he was not going to win against Nkrumah who wanted a stronger Ghana, quickly, to begin building the new State/Nation.
Yes, JB Danquah and other traitors wanted to delay Ghana's independence because they knew they could not win the elections.
While Nkrumah's slogan was "Independence Now", JB Danquah's was "Independence in the shortest po ...

If you know the meaning of "independence", you will conclude that Ghana never had any independence under Nkrumah, and it is even doubtful if we have ever had any independence at any time.
Tell us the meaning of UP/NLM bombings before the PDA was introduced.
We are a bit astounded that with all your "teacher-ship" experience, you failed to recognize that BOY KOFI, from that terse question, was looking for some rational information.
Yet, in response, you throw down on BOY KOFI ...
