If J.B Danquah hadn't been born at all patriotic Ghanaians would've still overthrow Nkrumah with or without the help of CIA because, his leftward tendencies had reached a point of no return. The guy was a red sickle communist of the Starling, Pol pot and Idi Amin type of human-being.
Every Ghanaian cursed the day that this cunning and dishonest man was invited to join the UGCC as its General Secretary, and he was, and still is, the mother of all traitors in Ghana. It was legitimate and even desirable to overthrow that callous, one party state and president for life communist dictator. And I congratulate Kotoka and his friends once again for securing our second independence and delivering us from Kwame Nkrumah; one of the most dangerous human beings that ever lived on the African continent.

@Paul: Understood there was opposition and there should rightly be opposition -- but my issue is why the PDA? Obviously, our freedom and justice that is boldly displayed on the Arch should allow every criminal, terrorist, or whatever label you want to give a citizen of a country the right to a court hearing. In the end what happened was the PDA was misused bringing a lot of division, suspicion and fear in the country. It actually was one of the factors that brought Nkrumah's government down. You are not adding anything new to what we think by giving us Nkrumah's words. The folks who were agitating from the North, Ashanti, Volta region obviously were dissatisfied with affairs hence the agitation which is not uncommon in a democracy whether new or old. Even our our cheiftaincy system before the whites set foot in Africa sent criminals to the "ahenfie" for a hearing before condemning them.

PDA was just a crude and dishonest means to cow all opposition. He had made sure that Parliament was filled with idiots, just as we have today (aka ordering chairs and tables from China), all critical newspapers had been closed down (he deported his own friend Azikwe and Basil Davidson.)
The only bulwark left against arbitrariness was the judiciary that was full of decent judges like Justice Sir Arku Korsah, Edward Akufo-Addo, Justice Van Lare and others, who wouldn't kowtow to Kwame Nkrumah. The only alternative was to use his rubber stamp parliament to pass PDA which allowed people to be picked at 2 am and hauled to Usher Fort or Nsawam with no questions asked. And this is what some people want to defend!

Kwadwo, this Akufo-Addo forgiveness thing is just meant to capture votes. The man desperately needs the "few" votes he thinks he must capture from the footloose voters and some from "the other side" to turn the tide in his favour. Why should he wait to talk of forgiveness at this time? Why not 25 or 10 years ago?
But the people who are being forgiven don't think there's anything they have to be grateful for. At least Paul is right in saying that this is not a family thing. It's not as if Nkrumah's family did some wrong to the Danquah family for which their descendants should be giving, and accepting, forgivenesses.
It is this politicizing of the issue that some of us think is getting nauseous. All those at the forefront of the accusations against Nkrumah are NPP supporters who just want NPP to win next year's elections. Those defending Nkrumah are not necessarily ndc supporters (that party is no true heir to Nkrumaism) but people determined to see that NPP doesn't come to power.
The battle lines are being drawn. History is not being used to accurately describe and interpret the past. That's why people like you talk as if human rights, rule of law, etc cannot be situated in particular times.
Nkrumah made mistakes (that he would accept if he lived and some of which he may have realised when he lived in exile) but some of you guys paint him as if he were the worst monster that ever ruled an African state.
You guys don't want to see the Nkrumah days as a necessary part of our developmental experience. You argue as if Nkrumah should have been super human at a time when we were just starting our life as a nation. And you forget that the opposition were not angels either.
For all these, what is the state of our nation today?

Just think about this illogical nonsense from a bonehead; a Judge calling a rapist and taking his words as a gospel truth against the victim. That is how it sounds for telling us to take Kwame' s word on how he came with the PDA.
If you did not understand that analogy take this as example, Paul Amuna will be a Man who will beat his wife mercilessly and his excuse would be , "she made me do it because she insulted me." Do you see how many idiots we have on Ghanaweb who think like him?
Fool, the PDA came before a bomb was thrown at Nkrumah. And the fact that he was been harassed doe not give him any license to imprison citizens without any trial.
Nkrumah imprisoned his own friend Ako Adjei who was sent by UGCC to bring him from UK. He, Ako Adjei decided to join hands with Nkrumah to form the CPP but he was later imprisoned by Kwame.
Gbedemah, who actually campaigned for Kwame while he, Kwame was in prison became his enemy. Gbedemah had to flee the country for his life. So Paul, the idiot tell us what Ako Adjei and Gbedemah did to your Kwame for him to chase them like dogs?
Common sense they say, is not common to most people like you. Else, you will not write such nonsense as this.

Sure, you can dispute his 'version' of events as he has tried to put it on Africa must unite, but you cannot mistake the source as authentic and from the Osagyefo himself. The good thing is that at least he has documented events (as he saw them) and all I am doing is to bring this to the attention of readers so, they can at least appreciate his take on things.
Is this 'original narrative'not better than "excerpts" from other people's letters as we have been provided by others on the subject matter under discussion?
By all means, 'shoot me as the messenger' but in my defence, I did not mean it to be an intellectual or academic argument, merely to present what Nkrumah recorded around the very time when it was all happening.

Dimwit means foolish, dull and incompetent person.
Plato defines a fool as a person who has no clue of the consequences of his own actions. When Nkrumah was jailing his own friends and enemies and declaring himself president for life, he was too stupid to know by then that he was naked without any solid support base.....
Then he was too dull to go about selling his dictatorial regime as a model for all Africa. Dullness is slowness in thought processes. Think about it, after hearing of his dictatorship and wickedness to his own friends, which of those African leaders were going to cede authority for him? And Nkrumah was so clueless that he could not figure out this obvious fact!
Incompetence means lack of tact and strategy for effectively dealing with problems. And Nkrumah was incompetent in thinking that the best way to build unity is to become a dictator. He was incompetent in managing the economy and our resources, much of which he gave away to pursue his pipedream.
So to put it bluntly, Nkrumah was a dimwit, and so are all those who extol him and think of him as their god without any intelligent analysis of the evil he personified.

You call the reign of terror that was unleashed on innocent citizens,"some political disturbances";far from it,so I suggest you talk to some of your old folks in order to get a better appreciation of what actually transpired during that ugly period in our political history! Even some of us who were on the "Y3ate t3" side, did not escape the 'naked brutality' that was administered indiscriminately by these thugs that we grew up with!

Nkrumah was ignobly overthrown in 1966 and died six years later a paranoid and broken man in exile without his friends and family!
Talk about resolving any political problem today by instituting dictatorship anywhere in Ghana, and you will be as toast as Nkrumah.

The imperialists/neo-colonialists have never taken anything for granted when it comes to Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah. For almost 50 years, on their own and through the Danquah-Busia reactionaries (their "natural allies" in the words of Nana Addo), they have maintained their mendacious propaganda. Further through moles planted within CPP itself, they have made sure the party had no teeth, and at one point even collaborated with the Danquah-Busia forces (or, in the words of one prominent collaborator, CPP was "delivered to NPP").
The latest pre-emptive attack orchestrated by NPP under the subterfuge of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Danquah's death is only a manifestation of the panic and utter desperation the NPP leadership is suffering following the propaganda coup scored by CPP National Secretary, Ivor Greenstreet, at the recent NDC Congress. The nation has been awakened from utter despair and its "Fama Nyame" complacency by Mr Greenstreet's bold assertion of truth to power. CPP clearly appears as the the only option for the suffering masses, and this is what has sent NPP into a frenzy and its worn-out desperate mode of putting out decades-old propaganda lies again.
No matter. CPP presses on with its message of truth and hope to the people. Nkrumah never dies! Like the victory of Syriza in Greece and soon of Podemos in Spain, we march forward ever!

Don't underrate Africa Must Unite. Please check on its citations. "Self-serving" it certainlyis not. By all means disagree with the man or his ideas, but the "self-serving" narrative is not only false, it demonstrates lack of objective scrutiny of scholarly work. At least we should give our fellow scholars credit even where we disagree with them. being so dismissive runs counter to serious intellectual thought.
