This is what Professor Mahoney wrote in his book (pages 184 - 185):
"The matter concerned Dr. J.B. Danquah, Nkrumah's opponent in presidential elections of 1960, who was released from prison a few months after Mahoney's arrival as ambassador. Danquah paid a visit one November day to the embassy to ask Mahoney why the funds his family had been receiving during his imprisonment had been cut off after his release. This was the first time that Mahoney had heard of the arrangement. After Danquah left, he summoned the CIA chief of station to ask why he had not been advised of the agency's association with Danquah. Dissatisfied with the explanation, Mahoney flew to Washington two days later and personally informed Kennedy about the matter.
The President reacted sharply to the news and told Mahoney that he had sent a letter to all ambassadors in May 1961 making it clear that their authority extended to all phases of embassy decision making. Kennedy then telephoned CIA Director John McCone and told him that he was sending Mahoney over to CIA headquarters and wanted the matter resolved immediately. Okoampa-Ahoofe since you are based in New York, you should not have much difficulty researching the archives of New York Times. Go to the May 9, 1978 issue of the New York Times and search for an article by Seymour M. Hersch with the heading: "C.I.A. Said to Have Aided Plotters Who Overthrew Nkrumah in Ghana."
The New York Times article indicated: "It [the CIA station in Accra] was given a generous budget and maintained intimate contact with the plotters as the coup was hatched."
Nkrumah and Danquah are dead and gone. You and I need to use our intellectual abilities to come up with solutions that will address the problems of environmental destruction of the Birim River as well as other streams and rivers that are being turned into ponds by galamsey and the roaming cattle herds.

According this author in Ahoofe's attempt to rehabilitate his hero he has gone to bizarre lengths which will make even his hero cringe in his grave.This is what he had to say

It looks like some people are of the view that they can not function if there is no Western European controlling them like a puppet on a puppet string.
I listen to a Russian on the BBC yesterday saying that Russia and Ukraine can not progress if they do not come under the guidance of the west. He went further to state that the west must come and make a total structural reform in Easter Europe and deal with corruption. He however forget that the taxes that unpatriotic elements steal from Eastern Europe and bank in Western Europe is corruption in itself. Double standard approach or the cynicism by the west towards issues in Eastern Europe is in itself corruption.
We wrote on the web before that when the United States want to unite it took the drastic way of civil war to bring her together. Whiles the same U.S. do not want her friends to be dismembered as is the case now in the Ukraine, she left no stone unturned to have the Soviet Union and WTO members to disintegrate, as was the case with Yugoslavia, but does not want Kurds to be independent in Turkey. The best friends of the west are countries with monarchies in which citizens do not have any right and that only members of the monarch have the right to be appointed to executive branch of their governments.
