We must all endeavour to stop hypocrisy and the world would be safer. We are over stretching the frontiers of freedom of speech. That u have freedom to speak your mind doesn't mean you can offend another person. If publishing the image of the prophet of Islam offends Muslims why do it? It doesn't matter if Muslim can't explain why he doesn't accept such images.
We must be sensitive to other peoples feelings. Isn't it hypocritical that the same proponents of freedom of speech have laws against free speech when it comes to the Jewish holocaust? Why is the US that claims to be the forebearers freedom chasing Julian Assange for his WikiLeaks publications? Was he not exorcising his freedoms?
Again, the fact that there are punishments for law breakers doesn't mean ppl will not break the law. So the claim that the violence that characterised earlier publications on the same subject didn't stop further publications is weak on logic.
I condemn such violent acts in the name of religion. They are babaric and have no place in modern society. But ppl must also be responsible. U know that something u are about to do will offend someone and could result to violence yet u go ahead to do it, makes u no different from the terrorists who do the violence. Discretion is very important in our lives as a ppl.

IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. IT VERY SIMPLE, ASK THEM TO ADJUST IT FOR THE SPECIFIED AREAS TO SHOW.

Free speech itself is a means by which society can exchange productive ideas and become better informed as a whole. However, when such an exchange threatens social peace and unnecessarily vilifies parts of the population, it is always curtailed. For instance, the French Catholic Church successfully blocked an ‘offensive’ advert depicting the Last Supper in 2005. Charlie Hebdo themselves fired one of their cartoonists in 2008 for an anti-Semitic article and cartoon. In general, western society acknowledges that gratuitous insulting, which serves no other purpose but to incite hatred and divide society, should be censored. The art of satire lies in the weak highlighting the inconsistencies of the powerful.
On the WAEC issue, this does not mean to say that Muslims hold Islam to be somehow above criticism and debate. Muslims do not seek preferential treatment, but equal treatment to other populations whose sentiments are routinely safeguarded.
Finally, if you don't know why Islam discourages the publication of image of prophet Mohammad(peace be upon him) I would tell you .One of the reasons; the key concern is that the use of images can encourage Idolatry. What do we see in Christianity today? Jesus is being taken as Almighty God instead of messenger.

Does it means it is foisted on you? Does someone hold a knife to your head to believe it? What's your problem? If you believe in your God, it is your problem, but ALLOW someone else to believe what he wants to.
Did you see Charlie Hebdo's Christmas cartoons depicting Mary's birth of Jesus Christ last December? No? Well, it passed unnoticed because no one made any noise. I don't think Jesus himself would be offended if he saw it, so Christians don't care. They will NOT take a gun or knife to defend him. The defense is in the head.
Don't mix your religion with anyone else's because it is a very particular religion.

"I find religion to be tyrannical. People are brought up to accept whatever is in the particular religion’s scriptures without being able to question anything."
Don't generalize! Sometimes some of you just want to write without a little devotion or commitment to what you write about so you can put a little sense in it.
I am a Christian and I can certainly tell you NO ONE forces anyone to come to church. NOT AT ALL. No one forces anyone in the Christian religion; in short Christianity is not forced on anyone and anyone not content with its precepts can leave anytime.
And let me tell you something about Christianity so many people like you don't know. It is about ideas like "Love you God with all your heart and mind and soul, and, Love your neighbor as yourself" which was the fundamental commandment Jesus fondly talked about.
Just think, if those who call themselves Christians and go to Churches really adhere to this commandment Jesus alluded to as the best commandment, (without other religions coming into play) the world would have been the safest place. Because JUST THINK; Ghana politicians steal everything, and our country is sinking because of corruption. Do they(politicians) love their neighbor as themselves? NO, Christians ARE NOT respectful of what is contained in the NEW TESTAMENT. So they are not good Christians.
Christianity concerns itself for the most part with the New Testament, on which everything on Jesus is contained. AS far as Christianity is concerned, the Old Testament is a reference book. It is linked to the origins of Jesus, which is why it needed to be included in the Bible.
I have not been to Church for more that ten years and no one asks me anything. The day I go back, I will not have to tell anyone. I am not a good Church goer but not a bad Christian.
In Islam, you can't leave the religion. It is called apostasy, and you'd be killed. Can you criticize Jesus? Yes you can, and no one would say anything about it. But if you did, what would you be saying bad about him when he was the good master? Can you criticize Mohamed? NO, unless you want to die; that, is, if you want to die, then one of the surest way to do is criticize him.
Next time, think when you write things like "I find religion to be tyrannical." That's stupid and shows you can't reason.

What I am just trying to drive across is, where religions is there MUST be tolerance. No one should be forced to worship God or believe in anything when they don't want to. That is called freedom. And when people don't believe in something they don't have to subscribe to its precepts.
Conclusion: If those who don't believe God criticize him or people who believe in God, it is their opinion. When these people criticize religions, or prophets, it is their opinion, too. Prophets cannot be greater than the God they professed to adore and worship.
Finally, prophets who needed humans to fight for them must have problems.

And yet, you say finding religion to be tyrannical is "stupid and shows you can't reason". You seem to at least agree that Islam is tyrannical by what I've quoted from your comments, right? While you may have a different view about Christianity, I think you must learn show the same tolerance you've wrote about elsewhere. But I can take you on any day about Christianity being tyrannical. One example, we have clergymen in the Catholic church abusing children but the Church insists they won't allow their clergy to marry. Show me where in the Bible that celibacy is mandatory before they can serve God. Then the same church insists people cannot use contraceptive like condom, and yet church some of the members are contracting HIV and dying of AIDS. In Ghana we have all sorts of crazy things being done to people in churches and they are intimidated through spiritual blackmail and cannot question pastors and church leaders. Of course people with foul language like yourself make it even more difficult for people to challenge the teachings in their churches because they would be called names and made to feel like 'sinners' or possessed with evil spirits!

KAB, Islam has now become a weapon for the west to use anytime it pleases them. Take for instance the Miss world beauty pageant that was to be held in Lagos, Nigeria some years back. When the organizers saw the need to take it out of Nigeria for financial reasons, all they had to do was to get a non thinking journalist to spew some nonsense about the Prophet Mohammed choosing some of the contestants as his brides. That did the magic!!
Ready made trouble makers were easy to find, causing mayhem, rioting, and looting western and Christian properties. So, then the organizers said "you see, we can't trust these people. Let's get the hell out of here!" You see how easy it was for them to use Islam to get what they wanted?
I also create problem between a Muslim and a Christian in an organization to get what I want. Probably to get one of them fired to reduce staff numbers. The Muslim is the one who will go by all means! Knowing who they are, and what they can do to protect what can be arguably a myth.
There is a line of argument which states that no one has laid eyes on the prophet to describe him properly. Christianity seems to have the same problem. Christ was portrayed to the world as a blue eyed European. Meanwhile he was not of European descent. We Africans have accepted this and some are prepared to fight for it. Can anyone go to some church premises and ask that the signboard/billboard with the picture of this blue eyed Jesus be pulled down? The pastor, bishop, reverend, overseer, prophet will lead a mob to finish you off!
This tells us how dangerous religion can be. Nothing spiritual about it.

It is ok to condemn those who misinterpret the Koran, but absolutely WRONG to defame Mohammed.
If you would ask me if I'm a Moslem, I would answer: No, I'm a Christian - precisely a Presbyterian but being a democratic christian, I believe that EVERYBODY has the freedom of religion and thatreligion must not be uncondionally be Christianity.
