It is just that elected leaders(including the presidency, past or present-military or civilian) are heartlessly wicked: consider Jubilee Fields making $250 billion in less than 4 years from Ghana's oil field(an amount almost 3x the internal and external debts combined; how much was the total investment of the company in the oil fields, and only partly sum of $1 billion was giving to Ghana!
$100 billion of this amount pays Ghana's debt, very disgraceful chasing IMF for bail out when a private company makes $250 billion in less than 4 years; is it any surprise that you find Ghanaians buying big mansions in Canada, Dubai, Great Britain, USA and other places and sending their children private schools overseas - Calgary(Canada) is one place where you find 'big parties'
every weekend!

.....thieves in power will stop stealing what we borrow and manage our natural resources responsibly.
Who says Ghana is poor? WE ARE NOT!!
We are a very rich country.
The problem is with those we have put .....in charge to manage our country.
Simply put, they are thieves and crooks of the highest order.
They just can't help themselves from stealing and mismanaging our huge natural resources.
The system in place allows them to steal anything and everything they can lay their dirty hands because the are no repercursions.
There's nothing like accountability in the vocabulary of the Ghanaian politician. No one answers to anyone so the free for all stealing is the order of the the day in every political corridor of power.
We can stop borrowing if fool-proof checks and balances are enshrined in our constitution to take care of the loopholes that have made accountability as a word to be non- existent in our political dictionary.
Starting with simple assets declaration in the first six month of every elected official, starting from the president all the way down to all political appointees and their immediate family members.
Some people would ask why include the immediate family members like they already don't know the answer. Remember the fool-proof word I used earlier? I didn't use it just for the fun of knowing it. It's part of that package of covering all loopholes.
Once the assets are declared, they should be revisited by mid-term and also at the end of the term and if the necessary legal papers of proof of ownership are not shown to cover any additional asset, then the additions should be confiscated with the state as the beneficiary.
There should be no 'ifs' and 'buts' about these checks and balances or else we will be spinning our wheels forever and remain as a country with thieves in political control and remain a beggar nation forever despite our huge natural riches.

Isn't it exactly the time that you are "crippled" that you do seek help? The problem with Ghanaians is any fool thinks of themselves as an intellectual analyst. This article is as stupid as it gets. It doesn't say anything new, it doesn't say anything imaginative, it provides no solutions, it simply repeats what everyone knows. What a waste of time.

We need to continue begging until a USELESS GOVERNMENT like what we have (NDC) uses what we get from the begging to develop the country instead of stealing them.
Thank you for your senseless article.
