But let's stop all these copious adulations. Are we Africans so much in need of heroes that we go on and on and on about one man who was a newsreader - no better or worse than 1000s of his colleagues world wide?
Now he is a prophet - an African journalistic prophet! What, exactly, did he contribute to African journalism apart from being a black face on a very mainstream worldwide tv station? And dying too young? Now awards are being named for him, lectures instituted in his name, study centers named for him, etc etc.
Oh Africa. We don't have enough heroes and we cry and cry blood over one lost one...
