What is baffling though is the number of people who have been killed, and kidnapped in Nigeria including over 200 school girls, and yet we did not see 48 world leaders descend on Lagos to show solidarity. I doubt if the Mali president who flew to Paris to march has even gone to Nigeria to lend his support. Good article, hopefully, the peace loving silent majority will start expressing the same Hezbollah sentiments to get rid of the terrorist giving their religion a bad name.

I was hoping to see you make mention of the following influential religious texts:
1) The Vedas (Hindu religious texts)
2) Hadith (aside the Koran; there are also others like the Nahj-al-Balagha, etc)
3) Guru Granth Salub (Sikhism)
4) Talmud (Babylonian and Jerusalem)
5) Egyptian Book of the Dead (or the Book of Coming Forth by Day)
6) Kebra Nagast (Ethiopian Orthodox Church; there is also the Book of Henok used by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church courtesy of Dr. Ayele Bekerie's award-wining book "Ethiopic an African Writing System: Its History and Principles")
7) The Lotus Sutra (Busshism, particularly Nicheren Buddhism; there is also what is called Gohonzon)
8) The so-caeed Biblical Apochrypha (There is also Torah which many mistakingly think is the "same" as the FIVE BOOKS of the Protestant Bible)....
And there are also the so-called Church Fathers (St. Autustine, Tertullian, St. Cypriann, Jerome, etc) whose large body of inlfuential writings impacted Catholic theology and doctrine (and subsequently the Protestant Church)...Let me stop here!
This collection of writings is an interesting read. I shall explore them with you at the appropriate time (if you haven't already)!
Have a great day!

What kwarteng has just pasted there as a comment is a total madness of rejoinder, a completely silly contribution with no direct reflection to the article at stake.

Dear Brother SAS/Brother Mojingles,
I have stopped reading his comments, and to tell you the truth, I have no idea what he even writes about me these days. I care less.
In fact, another commentator asked me in private if I had dated Adjoa Wangara before and probably had jilted her. I said no. That commentator thought Afjoa Wangara was a female. I have never known Adjoa Wangara.
I don't have to waste by time on him. I am doing this just so I say a word or two about your commentaries. I can only assure readers that I am as stubborn as he if not more. I am not the type to bend so easily toward other people's whims and caprices.
I will continue to ignore his comentaries as long as I write for Ghana. In the end I don't write for him. He's not among my target audience anyway.
On the other hand Brother SAS knows what I am talking about so I need not worry!
Finally, don't worry. I don't read his comments anymore.
How are you doing, Brother Mojingles? I hope both of you are doing okay.
Anyway nice and insightful article, Brother SAS.
All errors are mine.
Thanks.

You were probably born into your religion just like almost everyone else. As long as you interpret your religion in a way that does not oppress others, why feel guilty?

Very interesting; at least you learnt some Bible, no matter how rudimentary it was! I am almost certain that you attended some village Church Primary and or Middle School and possibly mission secondary school as well? Have you ever thought of putting something back to those institutions? Probably not.
The America that you like to thumb your nose at while enjoying all the good it has to offer was built by Christian emigrants. They welcomed all comers later because of their beliefs. The Bible Belt where you live, which gives you the freedom to pick "stray women" as and when, was built by Christian pilgrims.
The Church of Christ in particular, is a human institution, populated by ordinary mortals who are "fighting for their own salvation with fear and trembling!"
Yes, there are millions of rogues like Mahama and Goodluck Jonathan who call themselves Christians while supervising the robbery of their countries as children die of hunger and preventable diseases. But there are also the tens of Christians like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet who give and give so the most vulnerable in society can have some relief.
Just check how many of the organisations fighting Ebola in West Africa are Christian-based and how many are actually being sponsored by Christian charities. I will donate to those any day rather than sponsoring those who strap bombs on ten-year old girls to kill innocent people!

Samuel, you have echoed the sentiments of millions who are scratching their heads to rationalize the behavior of these extremist elements in the Muslim community.
Of course, organized religion is the source of conflict and hardships around the world and as such deserves the scorn and contempt you poured on it.
Libya and Syria were not attacked in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. In fact, it was Afghanistan that was the first target, followed by Iraq two years later.
As for Libya, it was attacked primarily to oust Gaddafi who ironically cooperated with the west by giving up his nuclear weapons and offering to help in the fight against terrorists.
Syria has not been attacked yet and wont in the near future for obvious geopolitical reasons....

Reading the whole bible at a tender age of 16 does not make you an authority of the bible, bozo. Go back and read it again.
When a Ghanaian gets a little bit of education, he thinks he is a supernatural, omniscient black man. Where is your objectivity as an intellectual in this article, and are you so cognitively adrift to say you hate all established religions?
What befuddles me about the Ghanaian intellectual is they assume the air of infallibility and project the image of scholarly transcendence that belies their cognitive adroitness. To make a sweeping statement that you hate all forms of established religions with no regard for the contributions the religious institutions have made to civilization is fatuous to say the least. Instead of giving a balanced disposition of your view point, you have made a declaration of a subject in which you are ill informed and ignorant.
The nonsense you have put out here can be summarized in this one statement: Because your wife slept with another man, all women are promiscuous. Isn't this the point you are labouring to make? Write about some of the good things religions have given to mankind, because there are Professors, Scientists, reputable Head of States, and many Attorneys of stature who are members of organized religion.
