This thing about floating voters (also known as referendum voters) in Ghana is a myth! Many Ghanaians are set in their views.
From Kufuor's first victory, the two leading parties have had about the same share of the votes. Any movements have been due to people who voted for third parties now being forced to vote for one of the major two or people actually changing parties. These people are not really floating voters in terms of people who know who to vote for only a fee weeks to the elections and who do not identify with any party.
Akufo-Addo's two near misses give the impression that if only some "floating voters" could be persuaded to vote the other way, he can now make it. This may be a misconception. The true floating voter in Ghana is a rare species, so rare that his importance may be exaggerated. Even if there are floating voters, there's no reason to suppose that the balance of their actions will go only to favour the opposition candidate. Moreover, the true floating voter (if there's such) will be more attracted to a new face rather than a re-cycled old face being presented as new. Add to this the fact that many Ghanaians are already set in their views about Akufo-Addo the man (not the party). They either like him or hate him. These are not emotions that change from referendum to referendum.
Akufo-Addo could well win the next elections, but it will not be because of the actions (or inactions) of so-called floating voters.

Let me make it clear here,it will be a miracle for Npp to win 2016 General elections.Technically,Nana Addo is already out because NDC will nail him with the Supreme Court fiasco.He is out because he has not changed his running mate who has nothing to offer in terms of election strategy.Now listen carefully,NPP has only 2 strong holds compared to NDC's 4 strong holds.The NDC understands that to win the presidential they will have to capture the 4 swing regions which will give them 8 against 2 on regional basis.This plan has proved to be effective,working for them and most importantly,the Greater Accra region,imperative for any winning presidential candidate to carry. Bawumia is not going to win a single region for Nana Addo but Arthur Ammissah can surely win the Central Region for NDC.The advantage therein is that the Central region has the same voting pattern as Greater Accra and Western Region.This is what I call the triagular effect and unless NPP does something about it the results will not be any different.By the way,let us not forget that we are talking about general elections where the Parliamentary is of equally importance.What will NPP do if Nana wins and NDC maintains majority in parliament?Thank you.

Like you, I agree with what he is saying and in fact, I made similar analysis in my article a day after Nana's election (which for some strange reason/s Ghanaweb posted the article that afternoon when I e-mailed it to them instead of the next day the earliest as the norm and for which many readers did not see).
Takakyie, if you are close the Nana Campaign Team warn them about loose canons such as the Asante Regional Chairman and Sammy Awuku. I am not sure if Awuku is just an immature politician or a loose cannon. He is the only national politician to openly declare his support for the just ended workers strike. That was not clever because a party seeking to form the next government should not openly support strikes even if it has short or long term political advantage because when the strike lasts longer than expected and the public gets fed up with the workers, the party (leaders) that supported it could be blamed by the electorate.
Again, in my view the Daily Guide though appears to be a fundamentalist supporter of Nana's cause, sometimes if not most of the time, its reportage inadvertently creates the wrong impression about Nana as well party complacency. For example, when the Daily Guide shows photo of President Mahama engaging Nana, the president is shown to be bowing to Nana. I noticed this when Nana and the president met at the Odwira in Akwapim recently. The Daily Guide photo showed the president bowing whilst the coverage by Joy tv news I saw did not portray any such bowing. Such images whether real or manipulated could create the wrong impression about Nana as arrogant that people must bow to. However, the same paper often showed Nana bowing to ex-president Kufuor.
Moreover, the Daily Guide coverage of president Mahama activities creates the impression that Chiefs are angry with him and would ask their people to vote against him in the next election. This happened with the president visit to the Volta Region over the weekend. This could create the wrong impression of complacency for NPP. In my view the Daily Guide is rather damaging Nana and NPP with its one-sided reportage.
May be, pro NDC papers also do similar for President Mahama but unfortunately I do not follow them. Sadly, for me because of Akosua's cartoons, I visit Daily Guide website daily to see what Akosua has for her admirers.
