According to the MP, the current labour unions strike and the series of recorded cases of corruption, coupled with the various dubious contracts being awarded by government through parliament are similar cases that can trigger an uprising.
Hon. Emmanuel Agyarko said some politicians in power have become obstinate to the extent that they have developed “yentie obia” attitude as they can always have their way through their dubious deals with a backing from the majority in Parliament to suppress the suffering masses.
Ghana is sitting on a time-bomb with the numerous happenings in the country as the government has taken entrenched decision to ignore all the demands of the citizenry.
They feel they have the majority in Parliament to pass any bill that addresses their interest than Ghanaians..
“Ghanaians are watching how a Chinese bus which cost $70,000 is being sold to us at the cost of $270,000; they are watching how one particular company has been awarded all the construction contracts at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Tamale Airport and Kasoa interchange and yet there is no transparency”, he warned.

Mr. Roger, could you remember that Rawlings used the TUC and its workers as a springboard for overthrowing Liman's government fraudulently? Could you also remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman, and we ended up with the "Rawlings' Chain" in his regime but nobody could talk? And could you also remember that Nkrumah used to incite workers to strike against the Whiteman and later on outlawed strikes and said they were unpatriotic in his regime when the economic situation was genuinely difficult for workers?
I don't believe NPP is behind the present wave of strikes. To my understanding, it is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the government, hopping that it would translate into votes for the party in the next elections. And that is, in fact, a genuine politics. Everybody in Ghana knows that the cost of living under the NDC government is unbearable, and NPP could be seizing the opportunity to convince Ghanaians not to vote for NDC in the next elections. Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with highlighting the failings of an incapable government in order to wrestle power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of corruption, over spending, over borrowing and economic mismanagement that brought untold hardship on Ghanaians.
Moreover, the monies collected from workers have virtually disappeared, and that Thomson guy at SSNIT is not to be trusted. He is a vampire, and his brother is the other Thomson that was a CEO at STC, and has been removed this year by its workers for pension funds and other wrongdoings. Until the "Big" Thomson at SSNIT is also removed, the extent of the damage done to workers' pensions in this country will never be known. The monies have been misused under Mr. Thomson and SSNIT is bankrupt.
The only lasting solution to this standoff is to send BNI to SSNIT to investigate and unearth the stinking rot kept in their big cupboards. What they will find will send every Ghanaian into the street calling for "blood to flow". Unfortunately, the government itself seems to have a hand in the malfeasance, and that is a potential impediment that workers would have to face.

Roger, your argument is one sided. Just tell us whether you consider the actions of the government as legal or not.

Your article could have been better if you could have told us why govt is always cheating public servants.Well strike is bad depending on humanitarian grounds but it is legal and for that matter good.If you say tax payers money, public servants pay tax too.Yes,fees are subsidized but there are some civil servants who work more than their salary, even though some under work.
The issue is that we say freedom and justice, but there is no justice in Ghana so these strike will continue

Ghanaians know the political party that are currently behind all these strikes and come 2016, they will be punished again. Strikes don't win elections. Votes do.

the government has always not been fair to the poor civil servant. politicians enjoy so much after their service with their exgratia but the poor civil servant is always left in abject poverty during pension. that is why the kuffuor government introduced the the tier two pension. now what is happening to the monies. there are always red flags raised by workers but the government is always adamant to the plight of workers. but the only language the government knows is strike. so fellows workers aluta continues until we see n manage the money as the law says.

which part of the law says that monies due workers should be withheld because the state subsidized their education. while I share your concerns, I will advise you to direct your attention towards this corrupt government which has on countless number of times convinced labour unions to resume work or keep on working anytime strike actions are undertaking or planned only for the government to leave the issue unsolved virtually behaving unconcerned. How long do you think the workers of this country can continue to work for the this beloved country when their grievances are left unresolved. If the coffers of this country is dry as claimed by the government, it should be seen to be dry for all not for the majority while the very few continues to enjoy.
