What the Professor conveniently chose to leave out of his claim that "..unless Nana Akufo-Addo was ever brought up on charges of illegal drug possession and/or usage and duly prosecuted and convicted of the same in a court of law, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader cannot in any way, whatsoever, be disqualified from contesting for the job for which he had been democratically nominated twice before in the recent past." is exactly what you said regarding Plea Bargaining.
Secondly, most discerning voters get worried about a candidate with a murky past, despite the absence of a record to show his or her conviction. For any candidate aspiring to become the President of a country, even the semblance of impropriety could be a heavy burden to toss aside for easy victory in Elections.
As much as the Lady accuser of Akufo-Addo could be just telling tales, to which I would earnestly plead that no one should be doing so to simply damage the reputation of another, I would like the Professor to apply the same standards he wishes Akufo-Addo to be assessed on to others like J.J. Rawlings and Nkrumah and Dr. Arthur Kennedy. These folks the Professor has accused of various crimes for which none was ever arrested let alone prosecuted and convicted, how they each escaped conviction, notwithstanding. What prominently comes to play here is 'Perception'.
We may all agree that the fact these folks were never convicted does not necessarily exonerate them from the crimes the Professor accused them of. Yet, the Professor thinks these folks ought not be considered fit by the Public for any National Political prominence.
The latest of the Professor's double-standards was on Dr. Kennedy's association with a case in North Carolina where a friend of Dr. Kennedy's stole his identity to practice Medicine illegally when Dr. Kennedy was outside the USA.
That case did run its natural course with full, thorough FBI and local Law Enforcement investigations that ended up convicting the friend of Dr. Kennedy's for his crime but exonerated Dr. Kennedy.
However, Professor Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., consumed by his obtuse self-conceit and pure maniacal hatred for Dr. Kennedy (because the latter opposes Akufo-Addo's candidacy for the Flagbearership,) took to the Public Media to request that Dr. Kennedy's case be revisited by the FBI and charge him with Fraud because he Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. believed Dr. Kennedy was guilty.
If the Professor could have the audacity and arrogance to impugn the integrity of the FBI that the Agency failed to do its work, and only his belief of Dr. Kennedy's guilt should have been established to convict Dr. Kennedy, in the absence of relevant evidence, why in the World would the Professor not accord Dede Djaba's position the same view?
The Professor characterizes Dede Djaba as insane for claiming what she has on Akufo-Addo. But the Professor would not accept the same characterization for doing exactly the same speculative guilt-finding of Dr. Kennedy who is on record to have not made any Plea Bargain to escape conviction in his case.
We have to admit that when we become obsessively infatuated with someone, we can hardly find any fault with that person, no matter how fallible and culpable the person might be in various instances. Such is what I perceive many of Akufo-Addo's supporters and sympathizers to be demonstrating.
The question of Bribery and Corruption has just been raised elsewhere on this forum in an Article that described the so-called donation of GHC600,000 by Akufo-Addo to the 140,000 plus NPP candidates as such. Let us all see how the Professor and his cohorts show their integrity in discussing that allegation.
Surely, it is possible that the Electoral Commission which supervised the NPP Primaries might choose to look away, and not take up this case of votes-buying by Akufo-Addo. But would that necessarily prove he did not break any Law? If we fail to apply the Laws of the Land to an individual for whatever reason and the person gets away with a crime that many see as obvious, does that necessarily make the culprit an infallible saint?
We all know how we have allowed Akufo-Addo to encase himself in a false shell of untouchability, making a demi-god out of him. Thanks to his minions like Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., and the incessant spate of Corruption by Agents of the current NDC Administration.
Akufo-Addo could get away with Murder, today, under the current Political climate in Ghana. So, we would not be helping the Nation in anyway without boldly sitting up to thoroughly examine all these allegations in an honest, unbiased manner. We could well be sending a pure criminal hidden behind the curtains of family fame and exaggerated personal prowess to the Flagstaff House. We could as well overlook a purely capable, honest and diligent empathetic patriot and exclude him or her from the Flagstaff House. All because we lack the courage to confront the truth or even attempt to find it among us.
If only the British Authorities and the USA Law Enforcement outfits would help us get to the bottom of all these allegations, we would not be stuck in that dilemma. How does that sound to you, Professor? Would that not be a similar request you made to the FBI, only devoid of arrogance?
Our attitude of exempting some from scrutiny while subjecting others to summary conviction is one big way we grease the wheels of corruption in Ghana. Let the honest, bold patriots rise to help clean our Nation of cheats and thieves and bigots.

Secondly Akufo is alleged to have committed the offence in London under police caution act.Under Englisn law, Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) now called Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) considers minor offences which attracts police caution because it will not be in the public interest to do so as spent and therefore will not appear on criminal records.
Before one receives a police caution however, the person must accept that he has committed the crime and cautions are administered as a warning.
It is alleged that Akuffo was carrying just a small quantity and therefore just receive the caution and warned.Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 many convictions and cautions become spent after a certain period of time known as the rehabilitation period however police caution is immediately spent that is why you may not find his record.I understand he had the same difficulty as a student at oxford.

I can say for sure, though I am an SHS leaver, that kwame's article seeks to challenge an earlier claim by one woman that Nana addo could be disqualified as a presidential candidate of the npp for an alleged arrest somewhere in uk some years ago. I cannot but agree to kwame because Nana was never convicted at least to my knowledge. What I however find a poor academic work of kwame's calibre is his assertion that rawlings is a murderer.
Can this self-acclaimed Ph.D holder use this same medium to tell the whole wide world which law of competent jurisdiction ever pronounced rawlings a murderer?
