Ahoofe the descendant of the 'nation wrecker'. Like his ancestor, he would no doubt put his energy into anything and all things negative to derail the progress of our communities in general and Ghana, in particular. Where was Ahoofe and the whole Ghana was anxiously shouting and begging the Okyehene Amoatia to use his authority and influence to discourage ;galamsey' in Kyebi and other areas around the Birim River in the Akyem Abuakwah State? Of course, Ahoofe has been living in US enjoying his bacon, eggs, tomatoes and sausages for breakfast. When was the kast time Ahoofe visited home enable his presence, which he seems to have, help to advance his Kyebi and Abuakwaman?. What has is Ahoofe's practical and constructive contribution directly or indirectly towards Abuakwaman or Ghana apart from his tribal chants and political impotency and irrelevance? The Government of Ghana as stipulate in our Constitution has the right to acquire ant plot of land for development and advancement for the citizens. Of course by protocol and respect for heritage and good understanding and co-operation a government would always seek to work with the people for fairness and equity. Having said all that, can Ahoofe ask the Okyehene to express his views on this matter. Ghana and for that matter President Mahama should not listen to the very few selfish distractors who aim is to stifle the progress and development of Ghana. Don't forget Ahoofe's ancestors JB Danquah, William Akufo-Akufo and Okyehene Ofori Atta and co took same lines against Nkrumah for Akosombo Dam, Tema Harbour, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Tema Motor Way, rapid expansion building of secondary schools etc. Ahoofe is intellectually, myopic.

Granted that Professor Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. is not very popular on this Medium, we must, in all honesty, look at the essence of the Article, not the unnecessary and highly speculative implication of the President in the malfeasance mentioned.
We must admit that Galamsey, the illegal Mining, and any irresponsible Mining practices, even with proper licensing, have been most destructive everywhere they have been allowed to occur.
These Mining practices have contributed to the destruction of our enviable, invaluable Tropical Forest Estates, contaminated our Rivers and Streams and even possibly the Aquifers that feed our Wells and Springs. They have even caused needless fatalities to many of our fellow Citizens, and many of the culprits have gotten away with the crimes associated.
Besides, like the Professor mentioned, many ordinary rural folks whose land have been taken over by the illegal Mining Operators have been denied the due usage of their land to produce basic food crops they live on.
These folks so victimized could lose their land for farming as well as their only source of drinking water. How in the World would we expect these folks survive and live? Meanwhile, no Royalties or compensations are paid to the affected owners of the Land by either the Government or the Mining Operators.
This is undoubtedly an egregious victimization of the poor rural owners of the Land.
Without having to rewrite the Professor's complaints, I would like to add my voice to any Petition to the Government to promptly dispatch proper Officials from various Agencies associated with the multiple problems the Mining has created in the area to start a serious on-site inspection leading to proper evaluation of the crisis to mete out swift and deserving Justice to the Citizens of the Area.
It behooves the Ministry of Land Officials issuing the Mining Licenses to fully evaluate the impact of the Mining activities in the areas designated for the Licenses on the Folks living there before approving of the License application. Meanwhile, the real individual owners of the Land should have been consulted properly in the presence of their Lawyers to negotiate the terms of leasing the Land to the Miners. Such negotiations ought to have taken into account the possibility of all those problems the Professor mentioned occurring, and how they would be swiftly dealt with; the Royalty distribution from the extraction of the Minerals among the Land Owners and the Traditional Authorities (stools); and any Compensation that would be necessary.
From the Article, it appears the Youths in the areas affected fault the Chief for being an accomplice to the activities of the Mining Operators, suggesting that the Chief was the only entity that was included in any pre-Mining negotiations to have the Lease given out. The Chief therefore might have received any monetary compensation for using the Land for the Mining, while the very folks who have losing all the natural rights to the right were ignored.
Unfortunately, this has been the practice for such ventures all over the Nation where various extractive Resources have been given to unscrupulous Businesses to exploit. It is not only in the Eastern Region. However, given that the Eastern Region is noted for its concentration of priceless Resources, the Region might be feeling the brunt of such illegal and criminal behaviors, justifying the Professor's outrage.
We should all therefore, at least in the name of Justice, empathy and respect of our common Humanity support the Professor's call for Justice. We must then ignore a few of his ignoble insults at the President and the Government to think about the greater concerns.
These crimes are not minor or trivial to be simply overlooked with any dismissal of the Professor's abrasiveness. In fact, honestly, if it were anyone else's backyard, that person might react similarly or worse. It is under such circumstances that any unpleasant remarks by the affected in anger must be understood.
We should all recognize the crisis in question as part of the reason why we have lost more than half of our Forests and Forestry Plantations around the Country with the current dire consequence of us having to IMPORT Wood from neighboring Countries for Building and Furniture.
If nothing at all, we need to see the importation of Wood into Ghana, the very first instance in our History, as an indictment against our various Governments of recent time that failed to implement the Constitutional directives to ensure the sustainability of our Forest and other Resources.
We must, by this colossal failure, admit that our Political leaders have betrayed us and the Country. Period!
It is not the number of huge Mansions that a few among us loot our assets to build, or the glittering display of wealth by these folks, with a little trickling to our neighborhoods that indicate we are progressing.
Simply put, the Nation is at the mercy of leaders who only think about their personal wealth accumulation at the expense of the rest and the Nation, leaving the Economy in shambles.
We must fight back from all fronts to reclaim our rights to use, and decide how our Land and other National Assets are managed by the Politicians. It is not only criminal for these atrocities, as mentioned in this Article, to be perpetrated on folks, but also morally reprehensible for the victims to be denied their bona fide ancestrally inherited source of living to bolster the wealth of others.
It is that plain and simple. We should not let our individual displeasure with the Professor cloud our judgment to summarily toss out the essential complaint.
We should all take the allegations seriously and help in anyway possible to appease the affected duly and punish the offenders.
