Those Ewe vagabonds in the NDC Government who have made it their agenda to frustrate Asante businesses and businessmen should watch out. I heard an Asante guy tell his story at a barbershop a couple of months ago. This guy has an American millionaire businessman who wanted to establish an agro manufacturing business in Ghana to boost agricultural production in Ghana, and to export processed products to the USA, taking advantage of the export concession the US Government has given to Ghana. According to this Asante gentleman, the American businessman went to Ghana to discuss this business proposals with Government officials. To his amazement, those Ewe imbeciles told him point blank if he was coming to establish that business with an Asante guy, the Government won't support it. These are the kind of assholes we have in Government destroying the image of Ghana as an attractive place to invest.

The Ashantis are noted for not paying taxes and yet they call themselves entrepreneurs, how can a nation develop when you are not paying taxes but if it comes to payment of money to the golden stool they are quick to do so. They believe that anything non Ashanti is against them. When NPP was in government we had stores all over the place and the owners refuse to pay taxes. Go to the ports, they have cars which most of them were stolen from abroad and because they were stolen they can't get money to clear them and they are accusing the government of engaging in anti-ashanti agenda

I think it was high time NDC kingpins respond to these decade long accusations in an intellectual and academic manner, supported with statistics. I doubt if they'd do so though even if capable.
Anyway, the skewed views expressed here again are nothing new. We have heard them for decades, way back from the late 1960s when Busia led the packed and started this Akan/Asante-Ewe schism in Ghana politics. Kofi Awoonor's attempt to explain that, due to his linear methodological lapse, was distorted, savaged and continue to be used against him and all Ewes. My own attempts to fill the gaps has been on suspension for years now but an abridged version has been waiting for publication for over 2 years now. I shall therefore not waste time here responding to inanities contained therein here.
When my now good pal Efo Kwaku Danso repeated on Okyeame same claims of Asante/Akan persecution and wondered why the "brave Asantes" did not rise up to fight their alleged persecutors, whom we all know, in spite of the glaring contrafactual evidence on the ground, have been identified as some people called "Ewes", I posed just 25 questions to him and his then associates to answer before heading to the battle front. I didn't get any answers from him nor from anyone else; maybe b'cos a fierce fight b/n him and Padigo (Prof. Dodoo) erupted and I ended up settling the fight off the list and standing surety for Efo Kwaku in order to stop the nasty cyberfight.
Today, Efo Kwaku Danso, an Kwahuman, I believe, does not subscribe to such jejune nonsense any more. I found out later he was infused with such venom by a PhD holding so-called CPP leader older than him and he admired very much; a fellow Akan of course! So, folks, the problem is more nuanced than many think. Not only "these Akans" in the NPP hold such ethnically jaundiced perceptions of politics in Ghana. For them all, I have prepared a bitter portion to detox the vile bile on their chests!
To the thinking ones among us, let us puzzle over these queries.
What are the findings of Kufuor's Reconciliation C'ttee on these particular claims of Asantes being disproportionately being targeted over the years? Is this statistically significantly proven? If this statistically significance analysis was not done, as the NPP clarion call and campaign against the PNDC/NDC was hinged on these claims, can we know why it wasn't? Was the data on all the businesses "targeted" collected at all even when they had the chance?
Or, it is only the records of those who appear before the C'ttee that were taken? I recollect reading about a woman from Dzodze, who could only be a relation, appearing before the C'ttee too.
So was the supposedly "high-handed" manner those accused businessmen were treated any different from the way and manner suspects are treated in Ghana, some of whom are known to have languished in "detention" for up to 17 years without being brought to court? Or, only the Asante businessmen suffered that special Ghanaian way of treating suspects?
I really wonder why all the people of the VR did not troop to the C'ttee to narrate how all businesses and lives were messed up, daily harassed on the roads by armed Customs, police and soldiers. Women, including my own mother, stopped trading, because their food items were always being seized for allegedly being items being smuggled to Togo. Even my mother could not bring a few food items (plantains and yams) from my sister's backyard garden in Ho to Anloga when she visited unless a waybill was secured. The result? The VR stagnated during the years of the PNDC, especially its early years when the Togo border was closed and even Anlo vegetable farmers had to find new markets for their tomatoes and pepper. I have the witness record of what happened to them when they tried to sell their tomatoes at Makola. I also have the verdict of the auditors of the defunct Volta Premier Bank: its fortunes would continue to dwindle so long as the situation between Ghana and Togo did not improve. So we the people of the VR can also put on sack cloths and mourn out lot under the PNDC and NDC and, add to that, the NPP strangleholds on Ghana for the past decades! But we won't do so on tribalistic grounds like these moronic Asantes! After all, when snr. Ahiabor was stopped on the Accra-Aflao road by the modern version of the highway men who have laid siege to our roads called the Ghana Police, it was his own younger brother, one of them, who was detailed to extort money from him for their common pot. To him, that was the unkindest cut of all.

That is why we have to come together in 2016, wherever you are and whichever of the Akan Group you belong to, to show them the red card once and for all, to repair the damage done to the unity of Ghana.
Just imagine what would have happened in Ghana if SADA, Isofoton, GYEEDA, Woyomegate and now NSS had been led by Akans!

This delicate but urgent topic needs deep intelligence to discuss it to its exhaustive end without engendering a widespread destructive tribal divisiveness and chaos in the Nation.
Surely, there seems to be, at least, superficially, a worrying trend of Asante Businessmen being harrassed by Governments led by non-Asantes. However, a closer examination of the various individual cases may show that the individuals owning the Companies might all have other characteristics in common that were more likely to trigger their pursuit by the Law Enforcement Agencies.
Each and everyone of the Asante Businesses mentioned also could be seen to have a political leaning towards the major opposition contending the Government that was in Power.
Besides, the Author may just have focused solely on Asante Businesses and might not have realized that many other Businesses owned by members of other tribes could have also been targeted for similar legal prosecution over the years.
The Author also could have done better taking the presumed Business practice the Government thought had been breached by each of the Businesses to see if there were any smoking gun that might have given the Government any excuse to go after them.
In the case of Appiah Menkah and his Apino Group, it was not his Company's breach of business practices per se that brought him into the grip of the Law. It was an allegation by some Chiefs in the Western Region that he had duped them out of certain Court Awards they hired him as their Attorney to secure for them. The Award was for a piece of the Chiefs' Land that had been in dispute. Appiah Menka was hired as their Lawyer to fight for a due compensation. And when he won the case for the Chiefs, he allegedly kept far more of their Money than was due him. Meanwhile, he was reported to have managed to acquire some of their Land for cheap as part of his payment for being their Lawyer. It was the Land that he grew most of the Palm on to support his Apino Soap production.
Now, similar incisive assessment of each of these cases could show some initial legal breach that each Business seemed to have made. If there were no such signs of legal breach, it would not have been possible for the Government to simply single them out, even for their Political antagonism against the Government.
However, not all legal breaches need harsh and terminal penalty. And Courts could always find ways to lift the heavier allegations off the targeted Businesses, if appropriate.
We have to acknowledge that some of these Businesses came out of these Court cases innocent. And the Government did not keep re-trying them.
It is also important to learn that Asantes had also been part of the Governments that targeted these Asante Businessmen. It is most unlikely that those Asantes would just sit by to have their fellow tribesmen persecuted simply because of their tribal background. In fact, in the case of Appiah Menka, Baah Achamfour and P. V. Obeng who were most influential in the Government of the day were Asantes and would not have allowed any tribal persecution of their own.
In the case of EO Group, we must remember that Tsikata and others like Kwame Peprah had already suffered similar prosecution that many thought was directed against J. J. under the Kufuor Administration.
The strange reconstitution of the Supreme Court to have the kind of Judges that would overturn Tsikata's earlier win of the case against him, seemed to many as a most telling sign of intended vindictiveness by the Kufuor Government. So, the second emergence of the NDC Administration also had many members who wanted a revenge on the Kufuor Associates. The Tsikata's presumed political harrassment by Kufuor triggered off the EO protestation by the NDC, even aside from whether the processes the Group took to do their Business were flawed or not. The EO Group was the most prominent Business entity around the Kufuor Circle.
I strongly believe that even if the EO Group were of different tribal background, the NDC would have still gone after them with the little evidence of illegal processing it had on the Group.
Again, we should also try to closely look at the Business model of each of these Businesses. They may have in common a certain faulty trait that other Companies do not have, other than being owned by Asantes, which precariously lay on the brink of illegality.
Having said that, if the Author could prove that other Businesses owned by non-Asantes might have perpetuated similar perceived illegal Business practices but were never prosecuted by the same Government, then we could be more worried by the Government's intent on prosecuting the Asante-owned Businesses.
I strongly believe those harrassments of these Asante Businesses, if we accept them as such, fit more into being perpetrated purely for Political Partisan reasons than tribal discrimination.
The Kesseben case arose out of the NPP's increased outcry against the curent NDC Government over the falling Cedi value and its concommitant Foreign Exchange access dilemma. If the Government simply wanted to harrass yet a successful Asante Business, it might have pursued Kesseben much earlier on, before the Economy sank that low.
I have seen elsewhere in this discussion how some have also cited the persecution of Ewe Business Ownerships by the Kufuor Administration. Should we then say that there is a cyclical mutually destructive, vindictive tribal-based harrassment of Businesses by both Asante and non-Asante heads of Government?
We must cautiously tread in leveling tribal discrimination allegations without full disclosure of all the facts in each case. If we don't we might be seen as only fanning tribal discord and instigating for ethnic violence in the Country.
Anyone, including the Author, who thinks he or she has a credible evidence of tribal discrimination must first take the Case to the Courts to seek redress, or complain directly to the appropriate Agencies for redress, rather than taking to the Media to make such allegations without the full facts on the Cases cited for evidence.
