Philip Kobina Baidoo, though it would have been praiseworthy for Nana Akufo-Addo to have resigned after the Supreme Court ruling, it is now too late for him to do so. Again, the Alex Salmond's resignation was a sign of "I did my best but my best was not good enough, Nana Addo-Akufo and NPP still believe that he was cheated by the EC and SC and that is why Nana Akufo-Addo still has massive support from within his party.
The subject matter you discussed is not only specific to Nana Akufo-Addo or even Ghanaian politicians but the word 'resign' is not in the lexicon of the Ghanaian. Just consider the case of the CHRAJ Commissioner who is hanging on to her position despite public opinion against it for misappropriating public funds and committing acts of corruption (receiving salary without working for it).
As indicated earlier, the political future of Nana Akufo-Addo should is now in the hands of the NPP delegates and for Ghanaians to decide in 2016 if he is elected the NPP Flagbearer on October 18, 2014.

What Kobina is failing to realize is the soaring popularity of Nana within the NPP and the general public as a whole. We the grassroots of the NPP have studied the ground and have noted that Nana and Bawumia pair is the best thing that would ever happen to Ghana in this trying times of SADA SUBAH GYEEDA, the Isofoton, not forgetting Woyome and others. . What most Ghanaians missed is the free SHS of Nana which is expected to lift the heavy burdens off the heads of families across the length and breath of the country. We sincerely believe all those monies of the tax payers that is criminally slipping into the hands of Trokosis and the idle hands of the panhandling North could be channeled into good use, like the free SHS, to benefit all Ghanaians. The fear of the selfish and greedy bastards in the NDC is that with NPP in power and Nana as the president they would loose the free education and scholarships that has been the preserve for the children of Northerners and Trokosis alone. Nana Addo is not, and has never been corrupt and so do Bawumia and Alan. That is the more reason why Ghanaian want the most experienced politician in Ghana, Nana Addo as a president. Mills won on his third attempt and we believe with the soaring popularity of Nana more than ever, winning 2016 is just a blink of the eye, provided fair and level playing field would be held in high esteem by the EC.

Nana will win on Oct. 18,14 and go on to beat Mahama on 2016.
Mahama will not be allowed to steal again on 2016.
The worthy ticket for 2016 is the ticket of Nana/Bawumia.
No amount of propaganda will stop Nana.

We can choose him alright but he cannot win over the other half of the electorate.
If we elect him again as candidate a lot of people including myself will have to reconsider our membership of the party. He is being selfish.

Philip, this is a fascinating article. Perhaps, the title should read: CAN GHANAIAN POLITICIANS LEARN FROM ALEX SALMOND'S STATESMANSHIP?, because I want us to look at the bigger picture. I think your article comes across as a political/factional attack on Nana Akufo-Addo.
Yes, Alex Salmond announced he was going to step down in November as the SNP[Scottish Nationalist Party]leader and Scotland's First Minister, after his SNP[pro-Independence/YES campaign] lost to the pro-Union/NO campaign in the Scottish Independence Referendum. Of course, that decision is something that's all too rare in Ghana. Alex Salmond's decision to resign for the country to benefit from 'new leadership' is admirable and praiseworthy.
What are the lessons for Ghanaian politicians from Alex Salmond's statesmanship? As we all know, in Ghana, our politicians and Government ministers DON'T RESIGN even after getting caught up in corruption, fraud and cronyism. Our Ghanaian politicians simply lack personal principles, character and integrity. Do our political leaders ever contemplate the comprehensive failure of their leadership? Obviously, NOT. Our Ghanaian politicians could learn from Alex Salmond's decision to resign by putting the nation and party's interests above their personal ambitions. Will Ghanaian politicians accept democratic verdict even in the face of suspected electoral fraud? There were allegations of electoral fraud, scaremongering, intimidation and threats aimed at political opponents during the Scottish referendum but once the result was announced, both YES and NO camps accepted the verdict. Perhaps, our Ghanaian politicians could learn some lessons.

You can't compare Alex Salmond's situation to Akufo Addo's. No one was pushing for Scottish independence till Salmond staked his political power on it. After losing, he had no moral right to continue. If Akufo Addo had staked, explicitly, his continued candidature on winning, he would have had no moral right to continue.
Secondly, politics is all about sentiments. We can't compare what happens in different countries. Otherwise a President who is not performing would not stand for re-election.
Akufo Addo, before deciding to contest again, sounded out all shades of opinion in the country including even those who do not belong to the NPP. If the prevailing sentiment had been that he was no longer viable, he surely would not have ran.
I really do not see people's problem with his candidature. He and his party alone bear the risk of his seeking the Presidency once again. If he is not viable, why don't they rather jubilatie?
I see him as the most viable candidate to win NPP power. It is not fortuitous that those asking him to step down are predominantly commentators who write in support of the NDC. If the NPP do not want him, he should lose the primaries. Eno bi so?

I guess your parents brought you guys up Manner a lot us has been deprive, your write up has ginger me this morning. The question I have been asking my own body member which I find it hard to get an answer is, is Nana Akufo Addo telling Ghanaians that he is the only wise person in Ghana who get things done for the betterment of the nation or is he the only wise person within the NPP fold. This is not chieftaincy affairs is about Ghana. Is not another Kigali in disgist? I dread to talk about it.
