My advice to the people of Yendi and their chiefs is that do not sit and wait for the national gov't to deliver your dream. Put your brains together, get a business plan and look for investors in your own capacity as chiefs, because politicians are elected for four years only. Chiefs on the other hand are for life.

Interesting and refreshing piece esp. for those not informed about the historical and socio-econ references mentioned but to those of us who also know a bit of the background history of Yendi. Above all, it is a pointer to all those venomous "these Akans" who like to claim that the Eastern Corridor Road is just another Ewe plot to sideline KUMASI in particular that there are others who see that project as their life line for a revival of fortune. After all, only a small portion of the road passed through the tip of Eweland proper, the much infrastructure deprived northern VR not being part of Eweland. Long overdue they also get a project like that.
Anyway, I don't know whether to say I was surprised to read the writer not acknowledging that Yendi was the capital of the Konkombas which was seized by the Dagbons. One can read the true account of that town in the "The Konkombas of Northern Ghana".
And the writer failed to mention the main economic activity - slavery trade - that made Yendi [and Salaga] such an economically buoyant town up to the C19th. The abolition of the evil trade contributed in no small measure to the demise of Yendi and Salaga as economically buoyant towns.
