I take exception to the comment about religion being some sort of a shackle. The only person who is shackled is one who accepts worldly customs and philosophies without regard for the creator. I know that I have vexed one or two profs in my time, and I won't hesitate to do it again. Christianity preaches freedom. Jesus is well vexed in worldly disciplines and customs, but I am afraid he uses them to present analogies. I daresay Jesus isn't even teaching. He is presenting a scenario devoid of all worldly cultures and philosophies. Call it transcendence if you will. He presents a world that is unspoiled by human wisdom. This is why some PHD holders still accept what he says.

That is called the division of the world among major capitalist countries. Export of capital that is used to exploit the citizens of the colonies with the interest taken away to the metropolis. The conversion of bank capital to finance capital.
Thus imperialism is a socioeconomic system through which another state occupies another and use the resources of the occupied territory to satisfy its socioeconomic needs, making it impossible for the colony to made socioeconomic progress.
Francis Kwarteng, your writing rather than tackling the problems of socioeconomic backwardness of a neocolony, was rather anarchist in nature.
A neocolony is a country which socioeconomic like is controlled by imperialist countries with a head of state who is a puppet in the hands of the imperialist. In that case the president or prime minister is a puppet who is controlled by someone living in the imperialist countries or the head of state of an imperial state.
While imperialism is a socioeconomic system imposed on countries through the use of overt means, force of occupation. Neocolonialism is through both overt, covert means, disguised so that the the real ruler governs without responsibility, since he lives in on of the capitals of of the imperialist countries and run the day to day affairs of the neocolony from there.
The antineocolonial minds in Africa were Kwame Nkrumah, Abdel Nasser, Amical Cabral, Robert Mugabe, Gen. Mutala, Patrice Lumumba, Murmur Gaddafi among others who desired that the economy, political life and culture of their nations should be the responsibility of their people who will instigate and promote them.
On the other hand there were people like J.B. Danquah, Kofi Busia, Mobutu, Opheh Bougnei, Eyedema and others who are the stooges of the imperialist.
When it comes to partisanship, which determine a persons world outlook, the leftists are those who want to be left alone to develop the economies of their countries. The rightist are those who are of the view that they people have not matured into independence, thus should have their socioeconomic life controlled by the imperialist.
Imperialism is a system of control of people by another country socioeconomically and culturally, thus to put it short, the nationals of the same country can not be imperialist in their own country, since imperialism have to do with foreign activity. Japan will not have been called imperial Japan if it had not colonize China and other South East Asian countries.
I am of the view that the real issue that Francis Kwarteng want to deal with is partisanship. When we talk about partisanship it is about if a person is a capitalist or a communist.

The history of Christianity from inquisition, colonization, slave trade and neocolonialism all point to the fact that Christianity is never democratic.
