I think the man's Christianity and many years imprisonment soften his stance to his humanity.It does look like on balance the shift from freedom fighter to a humanistic peace maker was a shift too far.this resulted in failing his people because he was in a position to have made a difference.The goodwill he commanded would have done much more for blacks than the overwhelming concession he gave to white privilege at the expense of the downtrodden.
His legacy will be appreciated by the UN controlled Anglo Saxon values which he reflected more in his latter years than the African question of marginalization and lack of opportunities.In this context he failed his people and Africa.The beneficiaries being the privileged and the status quo.
