Bravo, Prof.! Surely, Ghanaians have little patience to wait when it comes deciding our next leaders. Even if the general sentiment indicates an incumbent is preferred for a second term, our Electorate would rather have that decided without delay. Our anxiety to have a change is even much higher when a current Administration does not seem to get it all together, and the Economy turns south.
As we grow deeper and deeper into the Middle-Class realm of Nations, our endurance for deteriorating Economy shortens. And so, the Professor is right on the money. In this very moment of rising anguish with our Economy, and little hope for any quick rebound, our temperament cannot withstand a five-year term for the Presidency.
Folks would not even like to hear about it. The 4 stressful years we are living through now, exude so much sour taste in people's mouths that they would not like to position themselves in a situation where further heartburn might have to be endured.
Folks are much better informed now on what they would expect from the Political leadership, by the end of the first two years. If by then a Presidency has not done well enough, even if it is setting up the foundations for an earlier-tacitly-approved agenda by the Electorate that sent it to power, the people begin to worry.
It used to be when most of the Electorate would just chill till the very end of the first term of the Presidency to quietly go thumb the Politicians out of power. But now, the recourse to Civil agitations seems to be more frequent and at a much earlier stage.
That, like the Professor said, indicates the Electorate's expectation for a fully-equiped President, who does not need any apprenticeship for part of his term.
The people want someone who would be ready to make immediate positive impact on their lives, and the Economy.
Well done, Prof.! That is a lesson our presidential aspirants may have to take seriously in order not disappoint their supporters much too early into the Politicians' successful ascent to the Presidency.
