Consider these:
You claim that the ladder of progression to the Bimbilla Kingship is known and that who occupies the seat after the demise of the chief in 1999 too is clear.
And here are your 'corrections':
1. Then the 9 'kingmakers' are in really not empowered traditionally to elect, but they are mandated to confirm that chief on the highest ladder of the gate whose turn is to reign.
2. Because each gate consists of only the one people, custom allows for someone who's never been a chief to be nominated. How? The chief at the highest ladder can nominate any suitable person from his gate. What is done here is that, the traditionally eligible chief steps down temporarily and the gate declares the appointee as the new chief. This practice makes the appointee a chief who has traditionally progressed to that stage. Thus, he qualifies to be the new chief.
This argument is supported by common sense because it may be possible that when it's the turn a given gate, the chief at the highest ladder can die and even two or three of the subchiefs below him too can die. Under this circumstance, the low-ranking chief will be traditionally promoted and assumed to have progressed through the ladder before being made Bimbilla chief.
I'm in no way supporting either side. What I'm saying is that you the educated people in Dagbong and Nanung have caused all these mess. You're those who have the money to buy guns and to hire killers. You're those who have money to hire lawyers. You're those who are clever to organize press conferences and to write one-sided news stories.
All the above contribute to increasing tensions among the traditionally peaceful and uneducated persons. Without your meddling, the 'illiterates traditional Nanung and Dagbong people would have always resolved these differences amicably.
The nation is fed up with you people. Instead of wasting time to write this one-sided story here, next time use the energy to tell your people to learn to sit down and dialogue.
No group of persons exists on the Earth where discrimination or injustice in form never occurred. Blacks/Africans were traded as slaves. Today, Obama is the US President. God has plans for everything.
Does differences in who occupies the seat call for blood shedding? No!
Learn please!

With such a bunch of partisan liars, I'm not at all surprised that confusion reigns in your little parish.
So much is willfully omitted here in this article and these comments, that it is obvious even to a foreigner,
e.g.
- why has the "Gbugmayili gate [...] been widely seen as uncooperative" and by whom? ("widely seen" is written to avoid specific mention)
- Why should the Nine Kingmakers "elect" the Bimbilla Naa, if it were from the outset unanimously clear that it should have been the Gbugmayili Nakpaa Naa, as even Mr. Andani conceded.
(one commendable aspect of this traditional system was the requirement, that the king-to-be would have to have proven his abilities as sub-chief first.)
- what's with the superstition, that Bakpaba Naas would prematurely die?
If the "split' that occured at Mr. Dawuni's decision to ascend from Bakpaba to the vacant post of Nakpaa Naa was so crucial, then why is it not explained further in the article? The progression from Bakpaba Naa to Nakpaa Naa is described in the article to be conform to tradition, and only disputed by Mr. Andani.
- The traditional regulations seem to be utterly unclear in many regards, since the "issue of who is the king of Nanung" has been the focus of multifaceted murderous controversy between the two "noble" Gates, as the article states.
- quite likely the Government officials, police and judges were just confused by such a convulted situation, were even the natives cannot agree upon an interpretation conforming to tradition, so until partisanship by the administrative officials is more clearly indicated,
I deem the arrests as neutral precautionary investigative custody.
- Why should other "tribes" perpetually accept foreign rule "since time immemorial", when there is no force or necessity mentioned, that should keep them under this infantilising tutelage. No-one constantly likes to "pay hommage" (tribute?) to unkindred "skins". Some of the "tribes" migrated there in historic times, and some of the indigenous tribes are still traditionally without an institution of chieftaincy themselves, so it all doesn't make sense.
That's just what bothered clear-sightedness at first fleeting glance.
This systems seems to be a convoluted mess with too many overcome embellishments heaped up during the centuries by now.
The whole precarious assembly of allegiances seems to be feebly held together by occasional eruptions of violent force,
not by a common sense of cooperation, shared destiny and resources and brotherliness.
After reading Mr. Idris Pacas' comment now, I could understand even more, if the Ghanaian politicians, judges, journalists, police and general public were confused about such widely varying claims from the native witnesses.

Truelythe writer of the Bimbilla crushes has hit the nail right on the head, but the corection i want to make is the Nanumba kingmakers. The last kingmaker in the article is Juali Naa but not Djua naa. Again it is Langiri naa butb not Laginja naa as appeared in the article.
On the part of the Bimbilla chieftaincy every truful nanumba knows the right successor to the throne. History has actually repeated it self here when mr Andani father naa Dassana faced the same three against six king makers against Bakpaba naa Dawuni who was older and had suport from both the six kinmakers and the public in 1956.
The then regional commissioner, Avavana and government officials intervained and allowed the tradition and custom worked. Dasana who was at the nakpa skin was decleared the rightful candidate despite the fact that only three kingmakers were suporting him. This is indeferent, mr Andani should not have waited till people make references to that, the matter is not long. Anyway I donot blame him but the suportors who were bribed to the detriment of their integrity. Juali Naa Awaki who was the olderst amongs all the nine kingmakers refused these bribes on two occassions including the influence of wulensi chief. Gov't should rather look into the matter acoording to the Nanumba tradition but not to the whims of NDC party and the people of Tamale. Is not too late for getting the righful chief for Bimbilla. Chieftaincy is not self impose. Iam astonishehed when city news reported that Azindow was Kpatihi naa and an elder from the gbumayili gate. Nanumbas let us truful in our sayings; is it realy true that Azindow has been enskined as kpatihi naa? if so when and who enskined him? The other question that realy worried me is Azindow calling himself elder member of Gbumayili gate when Fusien Balga and co are older than you, well.
I conclude by saying that the governt quick intervention in the burrier and regency is not and never the lasten solution to the problem becausein an attempt by the so assumed regent to enkin any sub chief the matter will now escalate to villages. I condemn the arrest of the bangyili members.
This is the attitude of the Gbumayili gate, they use to ploting each other.

I think you are an educated fool u should speak of the qualities one must have before his can become a king. A great grant son cannot be a king the nakpa was a great grand son. His father has never became a chief. And according to nanung customs before u become a king your father and grand father must be king. And the late chief was a truly qualified candidates. Because his father was a king and his grandfather was also a kind. so people should stop tarnishing the image of the government. At first the case was sent to high court under Npp administration the so called Nakpa could not win the case and from there it was sent to regional house of chiefs. And NAA Andani was declared as a winner. Nakpa NAA then sent it to national house of chiefs. And the case was still pending there before his was murdered.

My question is who was the father of nakpaa naa salifu? 2 How is his root in the gbugmayili? 3 was he related by mother line or father line to the gbugmayili gate? If you study his history very well he was related by mother line to the gbugmayili gate that alone has disqualified him, furthermore he was a truck pusher who self acclaimed himself with a chiefaincy title until your corrupt father who made him a little chief which he ur father later regreted. And apart from that his brother was suha naa of blessed memory who was older than him in their family how come salifu became nakpaa naa when he had big brother? Please write with facts and dont be parcial. We are all from nanung and we all know the 2 people very well. Mr. Andani father was king before naa Abarika Atta so he is legitimate and naa salifu had his chiefaincy through self proclamation.
