I am not surprised. Yesterday after close of work I made a stopover at a popular spot where friends gather in the evening to cool off after a hard day's work.I was totally disappointed when well educated friends of mine bought into the idea that the lady who was with Castro is a mermaid. All attempt to let them understand that she was identified as Janet Bandu and that she is real human being was not taken by my colleagues so I had to leave them with a feeling of sadness.

the situation you describe is also commonplace here in the diaspora, where seemingly educated people - Drs; Attys Univ Profs and other professionals - fails to read between the lines in many a false reportage, posted on the net. And these are colleagues of mine who take issue with opinion pieces expressed in the NY Times,Wall Street Journal,The Toronto Globe & Mail or the Washington Post.

Shame does not begin to describe the quality of what passes as journalism especially on some of our radio stations! I am frightened by the nonchalant attitude and ignorance of some of the interviewers and discussants on panels. The potential for mischief and anarchy they can cause in our society is what really disturbs me. It has happened in Rwanda, Kenya, and elsewhere, folks!
