Try telling NPP what the doctors of old man Nana Addo advised on his attempt for a "trepit" and they will lynch you.
Apart from "resignation" being foreign, Ghanaians are tongue-tied when it comes to using phrases like "I am sorry" or "I apologise". Do you remember Asamoah Boateng aka asabee a minister in Kuffour administration who tried to flee after NPP lost power; and who awarded a contract without bidding to his wife's company for an unneeded office decoration and sacked a top civil without reason, who was found "not guilty" on "technicality" and should bend his head in shame and hide from public, is running as a candidate for the NPP flagbearship.

How about a coach who weeps during arguments in situations he refuses to control!
We can all see he has no judgment and must be replaced.

One of the reasons why Ghanaians don't resign is the ego factor. Ghanaians are too egoistic. Just watch when a driver in a powerful car is being overtaken by a "weaker" one. You see the driver of the powerful car speeding when he actually did not mean to. He does not understand why "this f...ing car should overtake me!" The Ghanaian will say sorry only if he/she mistakenly steps on your toe or bumps into you. We have no room for emotions. No wonder Akwasi Appiah will not resign. He does not care if it affects his children in school. Or even if his wife is insulted in town. It will surprise you the wife will even urge him on. She will rather enjoy the fame that goes with the embarrassment.
In the case of Richard Anane for instance, his wife who had no sense of shame welcomed her husband's infidelity along with the baby and her foreign rival. Any level headed lady would have walked out of the marriage! So as in Akwasi Appiah's case, Mrs. Anane was enjoying the Mrs minister tag which was awash with embarrassment.
I mentioned egoism as our main reason for not resigning. I managed to observe something that egoism has succeeded in doing. Killings by armed robbers! In some cases, you read or hear on radio that the victim in trying to pull a gun on the robbers, was shot and killed. Instead of surrendering quietly, the victims most of the time try some stupid macho tactics, which most of the time does not work, and get killed in the process. I once heard a lady lamenting "why should I say sorry to that twart! Is he my co-equal? TWEEEAAA! Enjoy your day folks!

We're failing today as a nation because everything we're doing or not doing like the absence of a resignations culture is part of the plan to fail. At the workplace recurring tardiness is treated with kid gloves as if that's normal. We say 'no problem' when the opposite is the reality . Employees report late for work and leave early but at the end of the month they take home a full month's pay.
We are not called 'The Third World' for nothing. There are many reasons for the uncomplimentary but deserving tag . The performance bar is set so low here that any drunk can make it with eyes closed. We not only okay and pardon mediocrity , ineptitude and incompetence but we reward them with promotion and salary increase.
Why are we surprised no one is resigning or being fired from their jobs? This is the way things are done here. You might be the most qualified for a job or position but you'll never get the job because you are a ghanaian who does not belong to the ruling party and if you do you're probably not well connected. Ghana boasts of accomplished and well qualified professionals scattered all over the world. What is preventing the nation from benefitting from the competence, expertise and experience of these sons and daughters? Couldn't it have been someone else other than Okudzeto Ablakwa, Afriyie Ankrah, Yammin and all the dim-witted, low-bred and sub-marginal ministers of state and chief executives who can't even put our money where our mouth is? We can't expect a culture of resignations from an environment so rife with corruption that about 9 out of 10 public officials have skeletons in their cupboard. Who's going to hold another to account? We can't expect resignations from a system where government rather than the private sector is the major employer and every job offer is seen as a favor to be returned. We can't expect resignations in a rigged system where laziness and incompetence are rewarded instead of punished. We can't expect resignations in an environment where the requiem mass for accountability was gleefully sung the day the 1992 Fourth Republic Constitution was passed as the law of the land with all its flaws like the infamous "Indemnity Clause"for the sole benefit of Rawlings and his cronies. We are at the moment laying on the bed we prepared for ourselves . If we find it inconvenient today we have the power to fix it now.
