Do not be surprised,because these people[police and hoteliers] 'trade' favours all the time. I suspect the burgarly committed against you has an inside-job angle to it;and that is why an attempt was made to turn the tables on you!

That is why Ghanaians want to build their own homes in Ghana and stay there when they visit. But the fact is that if you build a beautiful house there, the armed robbers will come there too.

These things happen a lot in Ghana even in the posh, high class hotels except that victims are not as bold as you were to report the case to the police because they know of the police's inaction.
When you return home to Ghana from overseas you instantly become a target because all that the hotel management and employees see are dollar signs and not a fellow citizen; and they will go all lengths to plan and steal from you.
You could have been seriously harmed, judging from your story
Hotels, in my opinion are not the ideal places for a Ghanaian returning home to stay because you stick out like a sore thumb.
There are lot of Ghanaians in overseas who own houses in Ghana from whom you can rent for the duration you will be in Ghana. You can search the web and some suitable ones that can fit or match your needs. You would not have the room services that the hotels provide but you will have your peace of mind and not get easily robbed.
Let me know if you will be interested in something like that next time you are going home. If you don't mind the distance,I have a house at Lakeside in Ashaley Botwe area that I rent out to fellow overseas-residing Ghanaians returning home to Ghana for a short time( vacations for example) and don't want to go through a similar situation like you just went through.
