I am a little lost on the purpose of this article. I think the author is advocating that we choose one stand of the English language and stick to it, be it American or British. However, this was given little emphasis in the article. Next time the object of the article should be made clearer, unless this is just for entertainment purposes.

I also got confused halfway.
Every individual can speak or write the way s/he chooses. But at all levels of our education in Ghana, choice exists not between American and British English: our official language is BrE.

There are a lot people walking around with hearing problems; the lady could be one. And that would have nothing to do with her English Language.

You all got confused because you probably don't know that that is the kind of stuff Tawiah writes about. He has written several articles for ghanaweb both when he was in London and after he moved to Canada. They are all like that. You will not know exactly what he is saying. But you will notice him talking a lot about himself - what he does, is doing, has read, etc. And then he must bring in something in the academic sphere.
All his articles are basically about himself. He tries in some sly way to tell you about his hallowed self. Today, he is telling us that he is an editor who corrects and teaches others... So, you see, he appears humble but he is actually a "big person"...
Go through all his past contributions to ghanaweb and the pattern is the same. When you read his articles, go to the comments side and read what one Paa Kwesi Mintah says about him. And you won't be surprised at today's article and wonder what it is about.
