We can either blame government for not providing schooling opportunities for all or praise the government for over education of the population but we cannot have both. In anyone of the civilized developed Western nations we love to aspire to be in Ghana, the national government is not the majority share holder or major employer. So why is it that in Ghana most of you classroom educated yahoos who talk about democratic free market systems continue to look up to the national government for employment? Why must graduates from our universities, colleges and technical schools continue to count on government to hold our hands around? What good is the collection of classroom earned degrees that most cannot wait to display or write as tags with our names if the government remains the savior at the end of it all?
If our educated bunch did learn anything of value worth their efforts should those with MBA's and other post graduate business school credentials not become self-employed/entrepreneurs to provide needed jobs for others? A visit to anyone of the many government institutions will reveal a work force of post secondary educated folks who are lazy, unproductive, uncultured and looking to earn money without work or looking to cash in by sleeping around or sell government services under the table. Let's blame a nation of supposedly educated bunch who want to claim maturity but act like untrained children looking for government to give us our daily bread.
I will offer this as solution: Government must offer an alternate option to the existing national service scheme which currently starts upon graduation. The option should offer all university and technical school aspirants a choice to start serving their respective national service during each summer vacation from freshman year until graduation. Summer national service assignment that is discipline relevant and employs classroom related skills can earn practical application credits of up to 6 credits each summer if supervised school approved lecturers.
