Why did you find it necessary to refer to the novelist as "internationally acclaimed"? If you refer to something by Dostoyevski, Günter Grass, Ian MacEwan, Cormac McCarthy, Hilary Mantel, will you also call them "internationally acclaimed novelists"? If a novelist is internationally acclaimed, that is all the more reason why you do not have to tell your readers that fact. When we make reference to writers we do not normally say "Prof" or give them any accolades unless such have a special relationship to their particular writing. Ayi Kwei Armah, in his capacity as a novelist, can just be referred to as such: novelist or "the Ghanaian novelist". After all, all the major novelists in the world are "internationally acclaimed", most are educators and many are Profs too.
It is not the fact of his international recognition that makes what you say of Ayi Kwei Armah's novel relevant or not.
Kindly wean yourself from this Ghanaian habit of calling people by high sounding accolades!!!

our so called education free or not is a shame due to the bugga bugga policies of the ndc . the mentality it has created is one of willfulness with no regard for law and order. just look at the fools of legon and their mindset in this matter of tolls , so now everyone who repairs the pot holes in front of his house should now consider setting up tolls to rob his fellow citizens , what a message ? the rule of law is only reserved for some like gen mosquito who has now become the richest man in Ghana due to a court case , but the thousands of businesses that are being collapsed everyday due to corruption and theft can not even dare put their cases in court as the buga buga atubuga clan there will only rubbish their cases. what a sorry state of affairs we can only go back to preparing our revolution and war to get rid of the menace as these lot are determined in the ignorant stupidity to ruin everything . it all started with nkrumah and his president for life bigger than God attitude

And the western world wonders why there used to be so many military coup de tats in Africa.
While I'm not a great fan of coups, because of the likes of Rawlings who also turn out to be more corrupt than the politicians, sometimes these are what I will term as "the necessary evil" needed to purge the thieving and corrupt politicians of Africa.
Now these thieving crooks of African politicians have the support of these well-to-do western world to steal from an African nation's coffers under the guise of democracy.
While democracy works like a charm in the western world because there are check and balances in place to make it work, in Africa these checks and balances are non-existant because there's no accountablity. The African politician basically thinks that once she or he is elected by this democratic process known as "elections", they have been given the green light to steal, steal and steal some more till there's nothing left for the ordinary citizenry. And during this politician's term of office, there's nothing the electorates can do in terms of a recourse. There's nothing in the constitution that talks about "recall" where a politician can be unseated by his or her constituents when found to be unsuitable for the job.
Some of the Western countries have these "recall" clauses enshrined in their constitutions to take care of wayward politicians which in African term, simply means corrupt and thieving poiticians.
So you see, in Africa, our only recourse is a military coup but the Western world has made it such a taboo that any officer or group of officers who might want to take this route will have to take into account that, that country will be put into more chaotic economic conditions by means of boycotts and sanctions that the ordinary citizens will be hurt even more.
So basically, African democracies are set up and entrenched to fail the governed masses. What is happening in Ghana currently is a prime example of what happens with democracies in Africa. Rotten politicians given the green light to steal for 4 years with no accountabilty.
