But after that, let's groom Bawumia to win the 2020 election to change the face of the NPP for good. Truth be told, Kufuor's former 'looting like' administration did not help Nana as the populace still hold that against the NPP. I believe the Akyems have an axe to grind on that note against the Ashantis, Kufuor being an Ashanti and that is part of the bickering in the party. Nana's advisors and party gurus did not help him either with their uncultured utterances. Nana could have been a fine president but I think it's too late now for him.

If NPP traces its history from UP tradition, these are the parties that came together to form UP: namely Northern People's Party, Muslim Association Party, National Liberation Movement (NLM), Anlo Youth Organization, Togoland Congress and the Ga Shifimokpee. They agreed under the leadership of Dr K.A. Busia. This makes me wonder why Ashantis and Akyems think NPP is for them and they go about bragging. I believe you all need good education. Politics is about knowing your history.

This is all nonsensical. What can be done about the uneven voting partings in the Akan dominated regions as opposed to the Ewe dominated region?
For instance the share of votes to the NDC and the NPP in Akan dominated Ashanti Region is of the order of 40% to 60%. However, in the Volta Region, the average is about 95% to 5%. What is being done about that? That clearly shows that the NDC is an Ewe dominated party, but who in the NDC has ever come out to claim, as a founding member of the NDC, that something should be done about that image? So these so-called NPP founding members should shut up and work towards lifting the fortunes of the party.
If the 40% to 60% is not enough to quench distractors appetite to stoke this unhealthy venom, then even when the tables turn 60% to 40% in favour of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, Nyaho Tamakloe and co would continue to insist that something be done to remove the tag on NPP as an Akan party.
Let us leave the Akan regions for a change and focus about the blatant disparity in the Volta and the three Northern Regions. When will we realise that the opposition is deliberately pushing this Akan agenda so that we would not have the chance to critically analyse the real tribal issues in our politics?
is Mahama telling the whole world that he is appointing over 80% of his minsters and heads of departments and boards from the three Northern Regions because they are the best brains to fill the ministerial positions in the country, even though they form less than 20% of the population of Ghana? Let us be realistic and mature and stop cheap popularity. The NPP will never collapse notwithstanding what these party wreckers will say or do. It is about time the NPP came out openly and canvassed on the tribal ticket. That may not win us the next election or two, but I would bet by 2040, the Akans would come into power and stay in power until the end of the world. And when that happens, not only would we deprive the other tribes of any appointments, but we would deprive them of their very existence - we would burn the Volta River as well, and everything to the right of the river! Then we would not have anybody to challenge us in future. We have endured enough of this nonsense! It is about time we moved forward!

No political party in Ghana can win elections without attracting the majority of votes from Akans.
So what is so deregatory about being tagged as an Akan party? I do not get this. What is important is for the party to strengthen its support in all regions of the country and to increase its base among all socio-economic groupings.
It is a sign of weakness if you aim to shake off a tag by opponents. If somehow the NDC can receive 90% support from the Volta region and do not have to feel apologetic, why is it wrong for the NPP to attract 80% support from Ashanti region?
The best way to defend this is not to apologise but to point out that each major political party also has a regional or tribal base. The only requirement is to have a national character and no one can say that the NPP does not have this.
We listen to the news in Ghana now and every official answereing for government is drawn from the northern regions or from Volta. Should this be pounced upon to draw down the NDC? I do not think so, provided all Ghanaians do not see an injustice in that.
There are better ways to fight elections on than shaking off a tribal or ethnic tag. Transparency is more the currency of value than this propagandist tag.

Some Ghanaians have accepted the foolishness being peddled by NDC that NPP is an Akan party. Why is NPP an Akan party? If the party goes to congress to elect their presidential candidate, do they choose only "akans" to elect their leader or they do that through their delegates in all the ten regions in Ghana?
A party that is campaigning to rule, should choose leaders who can deliver. There is no need to elect a leader base on tribe or rotate the leadership knowing too well that Ghanaians are not lab animals who should be used for experimental purposes.
If NPP congress choose an Akan to lead, they do that base on the fact that that person is the right candidate for the party. We need a candidate who can select the men to do the job. Look at those around Mahama. Are they delivering? If yes, why is the situation in the country very disheartening? Ghana under Kufuor has no oil yet, with the right men around him, Kufuor did pretty well but Mahama and NDC are swimming in a sea of oil yet, they are acting like "wanderers" who are lost in an endless desert looking for a way home because NDC believes that anybody can be president which is not the case.

I have good friends belonging to NPP and are Akan. I consider them my brothers.
