Because we did not do what others did to prop up their economy, that is why we are where we are today. Let us face the reality we are in crisis. We can however get out of it. We must all adjust our taste and expenditure. My problem is with our importation of garbage with hard currency. Even Nigeria with s many people is not doing that. People will complain and shout but if we are serious and want to recover then we have to stop some of these waste. We can create more jobs in the long run if we stop the second hand business. Look at those bikes,TV's, etc. They just end up making our refuse dumps fill fast. Why? Why oo oo Why?

The whole article is a waste of time. His understanding of monetary economics is not even up to the basic economics principles.

He has made at least seven errors in the first paragraph. But do you really think (Zanni) that his going back to school would result in an improvement?

Government does not provide jobs in a capitalist economy like we have in Ghana but create a favourable environment for private businesses to create jobs and expanding the tax paying pool and not increasing taxes on the few workers and bussinesses in Ghana. High taxes does not create jobs but rather reduce jobs as we are seeing in Ghana with high taxes and high unemployment.

I am sorry to tell you, Mr. Jake Addo, that you could have done yourself additional favor by explaining the percentage of mismanaged national revenues relative to the overall national revenues in those nations you referenced. In China, the goal of most in China is to own their own homes. As such much of their saving at the banks and financial institutions serve as drivers (funding sources) for business expansions, new projects of construction and infrastructural expansions and renovations. What we have had in Ghana has been the reverse of those drivers that are essential for growth.
Under J.J. Rawlings, from PNDC to the NDC era, government properties were seized and became private property used as collateral for Nana Konadu Agyeman's women movement to collect loans but nothing worthwhile to show the waste of national resources. J.J. Rawlings and his band were able to support their children and families and other various ventures outside Ghana. Hence monies that could otherwise have been available for developments in Ghana went to other nations as revenue.
Under Kufour the trend of outsourcing of goods and services and especially liquid cash flows left our shores for other nations. A small but important example of the outflow of money can be seen in the case involving the disbursement of the drillship Discoverer 911 sale proceeds. Why did Kufours team pay $1million to the UL outfit for legal fees? Was there no qualified Ghanaians lawyers steep in the kind of litigation that could represent Ghana? If not what good are all the people running around Ghana in white wigs calling themselves lawyers? Could we not use the money for a meaningful clinic in the heart of Nima in Accra? Under Atta-Mills and current president John Mahama monies continue to flow out of Ghana via the hands of the politically connected. Is general Mosquito still not the source of funding and financing for family and relatives outside Ghana?
Let me give a small sample. There are Ghanaians proud of owning properties outside Ghana but as we all know in those civilized nations, property taxes are paid without favors or exemptions. Most of the politicians in the NPP and NDC with homes and children in foreign nations do use monies earned or stolen from Ghana’s national coffers to fund those activities outside Ghana. In essence what we are doing in Ghana is stake cash out of circulation in Ghana to fund activities outside Ghana thus depriving our government, banking and financial institutions from having more resources to fund development projects in Ghana. When there is short supply of money within the banks and financial institution they do borrow from BoG which in turn goes after money resulting in rates increases and or value of our currency.
