the govt needs to implement measures that ensure the wealth of the nation remains with the people of the nation and for example introduce measures the discourage the gold mines frome continually siphoning out the money instead of investing in the economy , encourage the establishment of processing plants and factories instead of all these foolish procurement contracts , facilitate the easier return of our diaspora but ensuring a fair judiciary and institutions of state that function instead of all these corrupt sheriffs that only think of themselves . it doesnt matter which party is in power as long as they focus on the unity of the people and avoid anything or action that creates second class citizens . i say nationalise the gold concessions now or there will be a bloody revolution before the year is over and the country will fall apart . bring people who are fair a, competent and have integrity instead of these greedy barstards who lie so much that they themselves dont know what the truth is . stop the tribalism and introduce a system whereby merit and hard work are rewarded instead of all the propaganda mudslinging lies you serve us everyday , in short start to care so the people can show you love

How can we defend one-party state, President for life without a Vice, dictatorship and killing of political opponents in Nsawam Prison. Nkrumah polluted and poisoned the minds of the kids with his satanic Young Pioneers. These are undeniable facts not fiction.
While Ghanaians wallowed in poverty and lived in squalor and slums, Nkrumah single-handedly handed tens of millions of pounds to his cronies Sekou Toure and Mali President so that they can make him President for Africa for life without a Vice. Nkrumah was worst tyrant ever. All these are facts and not fiction.

No wonder, your ancestors thought, they needed more time to learn wisdom from the whiteman before independence.
Why hold others back just because you are not ready to manage your own life. Others were ready to and they voted in their masses to tell your ancestors to get out of their way.

What irks me most is the constant rain of insults that Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. and his cohorts engage in to silence any sensible debate on the issue.
It is one thing commiserating the loss of a relative, and another thing hating all others who do not see him or her as an extraordinary Citizen. It is academically and philosophically disingenuous to lift anyone out of context to judge him or her.

If you attribute this quote to Atta-Akyea: "rather unfortunately gave [rude] expression to [a paradoxical brand and breed of governance called] Constitutional Absolutism", how does the reader know what exactly the man said as opposed to what you think he meant? Are you not putting too many of your own words into his mouth? Or are you just correcting his grammar? If you think he didn't describe the situation properly, why not make your own description instead of embedding your words in his?
It looks like too many people are making pronouncements about J. B. Danquah who don't know exactly what the situation was. Unfortunately, those with eye witness evidence are dying off. I was in primary school when the man died. It was not a very big news, I remember. There was no jubilation and I think many people (even members of CPP) may have felt he was not properly treated and didn't need to have died in prison. But people could not express those feelings openly. Such was the situatiion in the country that you couldn't do that. Even Lumumba was mourned in Ghana far more than was Danquah. I remember my mum had pinned a picture of Lumumba on her calendar for years. I don't think she could have done that with a picture of Danquah.
Me, I like Nkrumah but it is true that he did not treat his political opponents very well.

Dr. Kwame Okomapa-Ahoofe, did you find time to visit the terrorists who were arrested by NATO member countries after the 9th September, 2001 roosting of the chickens which egg was laid, hatched and feed by NATO and several countries around the world. Did you also take time from your books to visit the grave of Osaman Bin Laden and other members of Al Qaeda who were not imprisoned for their terrorist acts but were extra judiciary murdered.
Then near you are the graves of the Black Panther members who were murdered in their sleep by U.S. security service members.
Someone wrote about Patrice Lumumba and that also brought home the fact that he, Samora Michael and Amical Cabral were also murdered and not given life to defend themselves.
The U.S.A. is a illogical country which president can accuse the president of another country of a crime without proving it, but go further not to try him for that crime but kill him.
The fact and the absurdity that the NPP puts forward is that we all know the history of their doll master and if Kwame Nkrumah is a U.S. president J.B. Danquah and his terrorist brothers in crime would have suffered a car crush, assassin gun or a bomb. Today drones are used to kill enemies of the U.S. and the west and I am not aware if drones give fair trail to people whiles they are airborne. NPP and its members should spare us all these absurdities.

No doubt Dr. Danquah is the crown jewel and an architect of Ghana's independence movement. He and others initiated the independence effort to which he invited Nkrumah who later took over and eventually became Ghana's putative dictator. Nkrumah's tyranny which involved a systematic brainwashing of the youth produced sycophants and intellectually brain-dead (excuse the oxymoron) citizens of the likes of Prof. Akosa who are today ululating an infamous and blasphemous enactment such as the Preventive Detention Act. Prof. Akosa's posture is a further indication of the thoroughness of Nkrumah's ideological indoctrination. Other echoes here and elsewhere of the extent of the mental-bleaching that occurred are the jejune minds who constantly mislabel Dr. Danquah as a terrorist.
But beyond all these facts is the overriding issue of Okoampa's own intellectual bankruptcy which overshadows the impeccable character of the venerable Dr. Danquah. Okoampa is a known tribal bigot and an iconoclast who contaminates and destroys everything he touches. His praise of Dr. Danquah is akin to clean water served in a chamber pot. The chamber pot pollutes the water! Thus, it may well be the case that Dr. Danquah's eulogy mouthed by a dope-head such as Okoampa-Ahoofe evokes negative emotions and verifiable lies against Dr. Danquah, a pearl among honest politicians and a man whose tall shadow will forever haunt a despicable despot.

I can soften my stand and only settle for the traitor tag I gave to J.B. Danquah but that would not make him to be less flawless as some of you would want us believe.
Like what you have just said, that makes Nkrumah less a dictator because he is not alive to defend himself. If they stop, we will stop. It is as simple as that.
Your assertion that J.B. Danquah initiated our independence move is not very accurate. He did his part but very soon became the enemy of the same ideas he fought for.
Do you realize six leaders were arrest after the riot of 1948 but only one person served 2 years in jail. As yourself why? The others chickened out when the fire became hot.
The riot of 1948 was simply started by a chief the colonial leaders were scared to arrest but yet, wanted escape goats and though Nkrumah was not as guilty as the others, chose to stand by his people as opposed to the others who cared more about their prestige and business. I can go on and on.
Do you know why Nkrumah was brought down to manage the UGCC? because the others realized they were not doing the work properly. In fact, it was Paa Grant who realized that and paid for his journey home.
Like I said, KuKru kukru ni gyai, kik3 kik3 nsu b3 gyai. ( mind my broken twi). Some of us will always worship Nkrumah despite his flaws and some of you will forever worship Danquah despite his flaws, but if the NPP camp decides to continue spilling garbage at Nkrumah and expect us to forget Danquah's flaws, there's bound to be retaliation. They were both humans and Ghanaians who wanted to help their people on different directions, although I believe many NPP supporters will gradually wake up to the fact, your direct was seriously misplaced.
The white man can never be a friend in their current stage and anyone who thinks otherwise will only get himself hurt. It is always their interest and never yours. Stop deceiving yourself. It is only when we earn ourselves the respect we deserve, that is when they will begin to take notice.

You wrote a beautiful article for the unsophisticated or uneducated Ghanaians to chew on as a gospel were it not one written by the know all be all Dr. Kwame Okomap-Ahooofe who brags about his earned credentials that assures him of his arrival at the table of Ghana's simple-minded educated elite table.
In your second paragraph you wrote and I quote "Almost all the available authoritative evidence, both eyewitness and objectively researched evidence (See Dennis Austin's Politics in Ghana: 1946-1960), points to the incontrovertible fact of Mr. Nkrumah's having run a veritable reign-of-terror, in much the same way that the former Flt.-Lt. Jerry John Rawlings would prosecute a virtual culture-of-silence between December 31, 1981 and January 1992" as if to buttress the authenticity or veracity of your arguments. Please tell me Dr. Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, what authoritative research you talk about. You see, the lack of historical annals on Ghana is not a reason to accept anything written by anyone as authoritative. I submit to you that none of the historical books on Ghana accounted for the truths about the British rule in Ghana. That would not in any way diminish however or invalidate British atrocities in Ghana neither would anyone in their right mind, educated or not, think for a minute that the British would not justify their brutalities if they had dared publish and or chronologically written everything they did and or directed to be visited upon their Ghanaian subjects.
As you enjoy living in the USA, the greatest nation on earth, the government continues to hold people without charge while some are not even listed anywhere and thus held in secret prisons because of terrorism. I do not suppose because it is American government in action you will deem it morally right when the American government in its duty to safeguard the health, safety, security and welfare of its citizens and residents utilizes those policies but deem them wrong because Nkrumah from another tribe other your preferred tribes dare imprison tribal terrorist of your tribal kind? History cannot be rewritten in a vacuum just as the history of mankind, especially on Ghana, has never been completely written even by your attempts and attempts by others to draw moral equivalence where not warranted.
J.B. Danquah was brilliant at classroom learned and acquired knowledge but acts of terror are acts unbecoming of civilized people. Dr. Martin Luther King of fame in America was labeled a trouble maker by the FBI and went to jail on numerous occasions. You and other Africans do enjoy your living in the Diaspora because of those who fought for the freedoms you enjoy without bloodshed and the brutalities your preferred party brought unto Ghanaians. There were those wise men and women who took to non-violence in the USA and other nations like India while in Ghana your heroes took to acts of violence. I have never read where you Dr. Okoampa-Ahoofe and others of your elk ever acknowledged those maimed and killed at the hands of a political party your tribal heroes led. It's a shame classroom earned credentials has never amounted to wisdom in your neck of the woods.

Name calling is not a reasoned debate. Calling Dr Danquah a terrorist is a wild-eyed conspiracy theory and a ball-faced lie. We can disagree on ideology but at the day's end only the truth shall set us free. Professor Akosa's statement as unfortunate as it is can best be described as an airbrushed account of the government's brutal human rights record during Nkrumah's dictatorship era. No matter how well-intentioned Nkrumah's policies were there was absolutely no need for the brutal suppression of the citizens human and civil rights. If Danquah was a terrorist as it's being bandied about now by Akosah and thereby reopening old wounds, why did Nkrumah not give him a fair trial before sending him off twice to jail which resulted in his untimely death.
Some call them terrorists but others prefer to call them freedom fighters and nationalists. Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid icon and the leader hailed as a symbol of peace was at one point in time on the US Congress terrorists watch list. Just before his 90th birthday in 2008, the US gave Mandela a symbolic present, striking him from the terrorists watch list and ending what US officials called "a rather embarassing matter." In recent years US officials have beaten a path to Mandela's door in his family village, hoping some of his almost saint-like aura would rub off on them. Maybe after decades of air brushing history ghanaian intellectuals like Professor Akosa can emulate the US example and give Danquah his due.It was better late than never for the US and it is still better late than never for the CPP activists and Danquah bashers to say the truth about Danquah. Danquah was not a terrorist but a freedom fighter, a nationalist who also believed in the rule of democracy, the upholding of citizens' constitutional rights, a free market economy, freedom of association, freedom of movement and freedom of speech.Danquah and Nkrumah disagreed on ideology . Absolutism cannot be substituted for correct principles. Diversity is healthy for us all because none of us is perfect.

Unfortunately, your idealism did not prevail in those days, all around the World. The closest we had to that was only the theoretical existence of the USA Constituion which was not even followed in the great USA. There was , in Nkrumsh's and Danquah's era contemporaneous segregation and gross abuse of human rights in the USA even as she tightly hugged her Constitution as the most Democratic in the World.
No one is saying the Politics of those days was better than now, or Nkrumah could not have done better. But you cannot canonize Danquah as some saintly political hero and demonized Nkrumah for his harsh retributive action against him.
You may not like the term terrorist to describe Danquah. But he surely supervised the bomb throwing and incessant assassination attempts on Nkrumah. Surely, a trial would have been appropriate for Danquah, but the blatant biases of the Judicial hierarchy against Nkrumah did not convince his Administration of any fairness in convicting the political criminals.
The Opposition of the day whose descendants now preach Democracy to us were themselves not democratic and resorted to violence against Nkrumah and his Party before the British even handed over Power to Nkrumah.
The CPP then took to vengeful violence of their own. So, as regrettable as the death of Danquah is, he did not help to push for any peaceful opposition, even if he personally did not direct the violence his Party was engaged in.
That is the truth. Nothing is bandied around on that as a fabrication. If anyone is fabricating anything on the behavior of our political leaders then, it is the bunch like you trying to rewrite History and sanitize the records of your preferred leaders.
We all look back now and wish things had been different. That is a 20/20 hindsight. We are now using today's general appreciation of Democracy to judge Nkrumah but not Daquah. Why? Danquah did not rule the country. But his activities did not suggest he really welcomed Democratic elections, in the very least.
Therefore, quit this one-sided bashing of Nkrumah and hero worshipping of Danquah. If Nkrumah did not deserve all the deitifying accolades, Danquah did not deserve being canonized, either. Just stick with the truth as the facts bear out. We understand how the relatives of Danquah have been trying to clean up his records and vitriolically attacking anyone who challenges their claims. But that does not wipe out the facts. You do not have an exclusive authority on the facts of that era. And if you want anyone to refrain from insults and name-calling, direct your advice first to the likes if the author of this piece. Why didn't you refer to his insults, too?
Both Nkrumah and Danquah erred in many ways and we need to learn from their mistakes instead of playing any moral superiority games with their legacies. You cannot lift either of them out of the environment that prevailed then to judge them.
Long Live Ghana!!!

What statistics do you have to support your claim that most of the political violence that occurred between 1958 and 1966 was perpetrated by the CPP? You are only conveniently dumping the bulk of that beastly barbarism on the CPP, your seemingly avowed lifetime enemies.
There was no such public expectation for Democracy as is so widely anticipated today all the World over. Danquah and Dombo, and even Busia, were more inclined to preserve their Traditional relevance than seeking any enhancement in democratic governance.
It just happened that they could use the shared dislike of Nkrumah with the West to their advantage as some champions of democracy. No democracy existed under the Kingdoms and Chieffoms these political leaders, at least initially, were fighting to preserve. Besides, we all know it had also to do with who would control the National wealth, as the Britts exited.
Nkrumah had not ruled anyone yet when the violence against his breakaway faction of the UGCC began. It was by no accident that the majority of Citizens in the North rejected Dombo's NLM or the NPP of that era.
All the Elections prior to 1961 were supervised by the British and called in Nkrumsh's favor. Yet, the Opposition would have none of it and resisted to violence. Can you explain or deny that?
The very day that Baffoe and Twumasi Ankrah duel occurred in Kumasi, resulting in the legendary murder of the former, I was in Kumasi with my Dad who managed to send information home that we all stayed indoors to stay safe. We were not supposed to open our doors to anyone we did not recognize by voice or special code. I was old enough to remember the facts leading to the confrontation. No one, not you, Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., or anyone else could offer any other rendition of that incident to alter what truth is as the case unfolded.
It is not what you can eloquently write now with any doctoral finesse that lends verity to what folks like me know. So, quit that relentless effort to rewrite our History. The fact that Nkrumah became dictatorial later on does not justify any undemocratic behavior of your ancestral political idol. And such behavior as Danquah exhibited is what the Nkrumahists claim pushed Nkrumah in that direction. Enough with your insults!!
You could well repudiate Dr. Akosah's assertion without the insulting Language. We have heard it all from you, describing Nkrumah and others as Nazist, liking Nkrumah to Hitler, etc. it is not how dirty and loud your insults are that gives any credence to your point of view. The young have to learn and know the truth in our History. That is what you need to help the Nation do, not teaching them to be intolerable snd unnecessarily bellicose.
Using today's political lenses to view the past makes errors in the past look more horrific enough for our young. But you should not sieze that situation to lead them to hate any past leader with your hypersensitivity.
It would be more beneficial to the young to appreciate each one of the past leaders for their contributions, in spite of their errors and perceived goals.
There is no practical progressive purpose in perpetuating the kind of antagonism the likes of you have kept and still promote in our Politics with conveniently assembled facts only.
For example, if 60% of those incriminated in the bomb throwing assassination attempt were from within Nmrumah's own circle, where did remaining 40% come from and who were they, and why didn't you name them, too?
Just as embattled Harley, the late Coup partner of Kotoka's and the Chief of Police, developed hatred for Nkrumah because of the latter's request to investigate certain misdeeds by the Police 'Capitan', so did many of those CPP associates of Nkrumah you named had similar reasons to wish the late President eliminated. These folks did not betray Nkrumah for some holier, more democratic reasons.
They therefore were easily compromised by the assassination planners. I remember how Mallam Tula, the most directly linked to the bomb, claimed he was framed. The detail truth of who originated the idea to commit that crime could always be in dispute for the simple reason that it's prosecution was rushed In response to Nkrumah's anguish, and some accused, like Danquah, did not have their day in Court. While he was unfairly detained under the PDA, others bolted into exile.
Yet, there were ample investigative revelations that incriminated the Opposition. So, spare us the insults and present the facts as pertains to both sides.
Danquah did not have to die under that circumstance. Nkrumah did not have to be marked and hunted down for assassination. The PDA did not have to be established. Violence did not have be taken up to mar our Democracy, imperfect and young as it was.
Mistakes were made by both sides and none was sacrosanct. Live with it!
