  You have to plan and consistently apply the requisite variables needed to realize the target objective - being the breakfast you prepare, yoko gari you eat and certainly developing a nation.
  
  
  Kuffour this and NPP that that punctuate almost all of your articles is senseless.
  
  Your folks have been there for 5 yrs and they were there 20 years before Kuffour. Kuffour's 8yrs brought a better Ghana than the useless 25 yrs of P/NDC.

  Hello Mr WARD GDX-WE THE PEOPLE, From your post I can tell that you are a great scholar, so please your contributions should be directed towards something good that can propel the national debate concerning the direction of our beloved nation, note that, no one party can be in power forever regardless of performance be it great or mediocre, the people will never allow it.
  Bokor's concern is shared by many at least where I live, and it is across party lines, nobody truly no where this subpar management of this economy is heading, in fact, two key areas that has completely gone to the dogs are the judiciary and law enforcement, because these key areas cannot deliver as a result of serious corruption, there is no deterrent, other investigative branches are completely bogus, commissions are set up to undertake important projects, but what is done to these reports when they are submitted, parliament approve developmental programs and don’t follow through to ensure that it has been implemented and completed, and actually serving the purpose for which it was intended to, but no one is penalized, our democracy is failing to deliver because the leaders has turn it into a family business.
  People needs to speak up and expose wrong doers and stop sheltering criminals amongst us, it has become a norm to defend criminals when they belong to parties we sympathizes with and quickly justifies their activities by pointing to the wrong doings of similar people in the other party. Our hopelessness as a nation will continue as long as we harbor these attitudes, we should not be looking anywhere to blame anyone but ourselves. Ask a simple question and answer it to yourself, what institution in Ghana can you currently vouch for as being clean since Dr Busia's time? Your guess is as good as mine, NONE, yet we are quick to point fingers at others because they don’t belong to our party.
  The truth is, for Ghana to turn the corner, large percentage of the population must begin to lead responsible life and think about the kind of future we want to bequeath to posterity, we need people with integrity, knowledge, and passion in responsible positions, King Amonoo, John Mensah Sarbah,Joseph Carsely Hayford, Dr Kwagyir Aggrey... these people fought and were aware that they would not live to enjoy the benefits of what they were fighting for, but they did it for us, now the question is what are we doing to advance what they started? So far the greatest accomplishment by this generation, is quick to anger, intolerance, and pouring insult on one another because we disagree, is this what is going to bring us peace and prosperity that everyone is yearning for?

  This is undoubtedly one of the best pieces I have come across in recent times! A very objective view of the state of affairs. My brother, I have been expressing similar views and similar fears like you. My deeper fear is that it is even going to be more difficult to have a long-term development plan like the Nkrumah one, considering the level of polarization of the country into ethno-political dichotomies, which is even deepening. You need to read comments on articles posted in Ghanaweb to confirm what I am saying. Just count the number of times derogatory words such as ‘peppeni’, ‘norherner’, ‘southerner’, ‘kwasea’ ‘cocoase’ etc are used as part of comments to almost every article on the Ghanaweb. The president is not criticized based on policies of the NDC government, but mainly on where he hails from. It may not be an exaggeration to estimate that over 90% of comments are ethno-political with less than 10% nationalistic or patriotic. In such a polarized situation, any effort by either of the two main parties to venture a long-term plan which comes at a cost and calls for some sacrifices to be made, could be politically suicidal. The parties develop vote-catching manifestoes that are not necessarily rooted in long-term plans, and when they come to power, their efforts are now on how to fulfill these promises, most of which do not make sound economic sense. For example, what is the economic sense in converting all Polytechnics into universities (are teacher training colleges also included?) and forcing to establish one university in every region? It makes logical sense but does it make economic sense? Are these priorities? Are they urgent? Are we ready now for these? Or consider the political promise of NPP during the last elections, of making SHS education free! Logical and important as this appeared, does it make any economic sense? or it was just a tool to come to power. Yet if they had come to power, for fear of failing their promise, they would have worked against all odds to fulfill their promise.
  Added to these are huge government projects that defies logic. Did we really need such a costly presidential palace at this time? Was it urgent? Imagine what could have been done with the same resources in constructing roads, schools, etc. I bet that if a poll were to be conducted in the north, less than 2% would have voted for the guinea-fowl project or even the planting of exotic and economically useless trees. Instead, over 90% would have opted for small scale irrigation dams to engage the youth in dry season vegetable farming, which could have largely contributed to solving the ‘kayeye’ menace.
  I cannot but agree with Dr Ibin Chambers point during a lecture delivered at the University of Ghana last year, that an important yardstick of measuring successful leaders is predictability of what they will do. How else can one better predict a leader, if we do not have a long-term national vision with which to measure what present or potential leaders espouse with that vision?
  As part of the way forward, is it not possible for the national parliament, the representative of the people, to take the challenge of debating what we consider as our national priorities which could evolve into long-term visions or plans, which should not be toyed with, regardless which government is in power? I am equally so worried about our directionlessness as a nation!!!
