Samapiid is the cultural festival of the indigenes in Bawku, the Kusasis. And since there cannot be two indigenous people in any area, I don't see the point Satim is struggling to make.
Damba is the festival of the Dagombas, Gonjas and Mamprusis, i.e. the people of the Northern Region. So one would expect any members of these these tribes in the diaspora to go back to their ancestral hometowns to celebrate with their relatives. And that is what the Kusasis do - with some coming from far afield as the USA or UK. Last year a friend of mine came from Australia. Thus, I wonder why the Mamprusi settlers in Bawku don't want to go to Nalerigu for the Damba but are demanding the wrong thing?
Fellow country folk, Dagombas and Gonjas all troop to their hometowns for the Damba festival, so why not the Mamprusis? They should be told by all peace loving Ghanaians to go to Nalerigu and celebrate with their tribal chief, the Nayiri and let the Kusasis celebrate the Samanpiid with the Zuraan, the Bawku Naaba. Not telling people the truth is what is allows issues that should not be problems fester into intractable problems.
Thus the security agencies have not done anything wrong whatsoever, or violated the human rights of the Mamprusis in Bawku even in the minutest way. In fact they are correctly enforcing the both the national laws and cultural norms and practices.

Basic JHS history tells us that the Mamprusis are indegenes of Bawku but not settlers. They have lived and ruled over the area since the time of Naa Gbewaa. So aI believe they have the right to celebrate the damba.
Om the contrary, it is the Kusasis who migrated from Ayiuga and Biengo in Burkina Faso to settle around Bawku because the Mamprusis had made the place safe and secure. We even learnt that the Kusasi Chief is a Yanga man from Togo whosr father was not born in Bawky. So Barbana please respond to the issues raised by thw writet and stop your misrepresentation of facts.

Who said the Mamprusis are few. They are in fact many and live in Bawku and some villages around Bawku. They are the founders of Bawku.
Bawku is a Mamprusi term which means a trench. The Mamprusis founded Bawku together with villages like Binduri, Nayoko, Gumyoko, Werekambo, etc.
The Kusasis only came to settle after the Mamprusis had secured the place and made it safe. The Kusasis migrated from Ayuiga and Biengo in Burkina Faso. Their first settlements are in and around Zebilla.
Also, most of the people claiming to be Kusasis are reallt not. Significant among them is the Kusasi chief Abugrago who is a Yanga man. His father was exiled from Yatenga in Togo to Pusiga. The Pusiga chief brought him to the then Bawku Chief who was a Mamrprusi.
The Mamprusis accomodated him and gave him a parcel of land to settle and that is how come he became a sandle bearer of the Mamprusi chief.
So you see, if the kusasi chief is not a Kusasi but an imposter what about his surbodinates?

These 13th century Royals are laughable. How can you force to be chiefs to people who do not want you? Frankly, the mamprusi s in Bawku can never rule Bawku again, why? because the Kusasi people don't want them to rule them again, period. The truth is the mamprusis cannot be chiefs of their small settlement in bawku town alone and be qualified to be paramount chief of the area.To be a paramount chief, you should be a chief of all the bawku metropolitan area which of course are all kusasi towns and villages with kusasi chiefs. But in the case of the Kusasis, they can be paramount chief without the one MAMPRUSI chief, because there's ill still be many kusasi chiefs to under him, unlike the mamprusi chief who will just be by himself if the kusasi chiefs refuse to be his subjects. The other tribal chiefs will naturally follow the majority kusasi chiefs because they will have to go back to their homes where Kusasis are the majority tribes most of the areas- they do not want trouble. So, who are the MAMPRUSIS forcing their Royals on? We are no more in the 13th century, sintim, and you are not dealing with the 13th century Kussasimpeople. Wether you celebrate damba or not, you will remain royals to yourselves and not force it on others. it is their back case. But ruling Kusasis from MAMPRUSI land in nalerigu again is a wild dream. Wake up and drink the coffee. This is not the 13th century.

Akwasi, you yourself can see how you are struggling to put these lies together!
Kusasis are not denying that Mamprusis ever ruled over the area. But that was an accident of history, as has happened in many parts of the world, and even in some parts of Ghana. But does that become established custom?
The whites in South Africa ruled over the blacks for centuries but eventually they had to accept the reality and handed power to the indigenes and now living peacefully with them as their landlords. Living in South Africa for centuries has never turned the whites into indigenes. So no Mamprusi can ever be an indigene in Kusasiland. In deed they are and will always be indigenes in Nalerigu (Mamprusiland).
Mamprusis in Bawku, please be rest assured that the Kusais will never eject you and order you to return to Nalerigu your hometown. Like the whites in South Africa, the Mamprusis should accept the reality and live peacefully with the Kusasis. The Zug-Raana, Bawku Naaba, will enskin a tribal chief for you to hnalde your numerous family quarrels (mainly over women - since everyone of you sleeps with another's wife) and only the major cases referred to him. You will only be frustrating yourselves by dreaming of ever ruling over Kusasis. I am shocked the Mamprusis have not yet realised that they are merely having a wild pipe dream!

Just tell me the name of hs grand father and where his father was born. That is a kindergaten question for you to answer.
It is rather you the kusasis who are shameless and distort history. Everyone knows the real descendants of Naa Gbeewaa. However, you Kusasis are shamelessly trying to be part of Naa Gbewaa descendants. You even succeded in getting it into the new Social Studies book of JHS. Have you guyz no shame at all? Are you not proud of your history?
The kusasis have realized that they have no history bit rather they are an association of lost tribes who have lost their identity. The real home of the Kusasis is in Burkina Faso, Ayuiga and Biengo. At present there are Kusasis living there. So how dare you claim Bawku is not the home of Mamprusis? Even though that is false, the Mamprusis are better their home is in Ghana. However, the real home of the Kusasis is in Burkina Faso. So go back there and Bawku for Ghanaians.

Now the children have grown up and resist the mamprusi rule. So let's all live in peace and quiet. Truly I don't see Kusasi giving the chieftaincy back to the other people. Let us accept the reality and live in peace. Nobody needs to go and read history to know that the land belong to Kusasi. They are all ver the area. Mamprusis are just small in Natigua area. Gurba, you have made a very important point. Why can't that simple question be answered? Are there no bold people to answer that simple question? That issue of the real tribe of the kusasi chief speaks volumes of interesting facts. Barbarnaba and his cohorts should answer that pertinent question if seriously they have a case. If NDC loses power, I do not know whether you would be bold to speak like this. I would love the party that would allow the two tribes to celebrate their festivals and I think that would promote more peaceful co-existence in Bawku than what is happening now. If Bimobas and Bisas can celebrate their festivals, why can't the Mamprusis celebrate theirs. It is only in this NDC government that we are seeing this. If another government comes and allows the Mamprusis to celebrate the Damba festival without any problem, what would the now NDC government officials say? Were they incompetent or were they simply buying the bidding of somebody? The safety of Bawku is in the hands of the Mahama led government. Be a government for all and not for others only. Posterity will judge this government for the atrocities and the senseless killings that have taken place in Bawku. When the Mamprusis were ruling, Bawku was very peaceful. Why can't others emulate that good deed. In villages that were inhabited by Kusasis, the Mamprusis made a Kusasi man the chief. This explains why some Kusasis now still are supporters of Mamprusis. Gone are those peaceful days and we remember those days with nostalgia. Let us debate this issue with intelligence and not with propaganda. I even believe that what the Mamprusis need now is the peace to go about their daily lives and not that unnecessary intimidation from Kusasis ably supported by the government. Can we imagine the situation where a government that supports Mamprusis in Bawku 100% and also says Kusasis should not celebrate samanpiid? Would that be good? The Wangaras who celebrate their festival down South, are they from there? So the argument that one needs to come from a particular area before one can celebrate his festival is neither here nor there. Let us wise up, people of Bawku, and not allow vindictive and unwise people to deceive us and destroy that town of ours which used to be the attraction of the North.

For those who don't know Bawku, let me describe the geography of Bawku so that you know where the various settler-tribes are located:
The Mamprusi enclave is located to the south-east of the town, sandwiched between the market and the Presby hospital. This is the slum area of Bawku characterised by haphazardly sited houses without any order. Open defecation is the order of the day here.
The Moshies are are mainly in the North-Eastern corner.
Hausas from Kano (who outnumber Mamprusis by far - Mamaprusis form only 2.5% of Bawku) occupy the southern quarter.
Sissalas occupy the Western quarter of Bawku
Kusasis don't live in the centre of the town, just as in all tribal areas of Ghana - the strangers always congregate around the market. Outside central Bawku, be it from Bawku to Zebila, or to the Togo border in the east , Burkina border in the north and to the Northern Region border in the south, is all occupied by Kusasis with Busangas and a few Fulanis settled among them in some areas.
So Nambe, what happens if you cause trouble in Bawku? How will you move outside your enclosure around the market? How will you get to the farmlands the Kusasis have given you to farm and feed your families? Please don't venture and starve your innocent women and children.
