I think both Akadu and Okoampa can speak for themselves: both are masters of the English language and are no-nonsense to boot.So you are at the broken-down KNUST and think that you have wisdom seeing your opinions as some sacred facts. The very things you hate about Akadu and Okoampa are drowning you: here you are defending thieves and corrupt leaders. Every child in Ghana today knows what Akadu and Okoampa are writing about: corruption and thievery by our leaders. Do you wish them to be called popes or saints? They are pen-armed robbers, that is, what Akadu calls them. You are even worse because you seem to be saying let us respect the thieves among us. In order words, you place respect over responsibility.
You are either just jealous or are refusing to be objective. No one expects everyone to agree with him/her here. There are people like you who would never agree with Akadu and Okoampa and would take them to donkimi cleaners. I have followed Akadu’s writings here since day one and I doubt if she has fabricated anything about anyone. Rather she writes assuredly and is a joy to read: She uses a number of poetic devices that are apparently lost on a large number of readers like you: obviously, you don’t understand the vehicles of poetry. For example, she parodies and uses exaggerations to make fun of politicians she calls pen-armed robbers.
Both Okoampa and Akadu are bold and fearless and people like you don’t like them because they question your idols and make fun of your adulations of thieves, political parties, robbers, tribes, etc. I think there are some people, may be you are one, who think that both are Akans pursuing Akan agenda. What about the Bokor who is decidedly shallow and outright tribalist who called Nana Akufo-Addo a whole lot of names.
Okoampa is the more political of the two; he writes a lot of politics. I think Akadu’s 400 poems or so on Ghanaweb, aside from dealing with politicians, have dealt with rape, infrastructure, galamsey, roads, maid-servant, soccer, tourism. deforestation, chieftaincy, sanitation, gender, Korle Lagoon, abrokyire, and all. It is obvious that both are people who care for the betterment of Ghana. You don’t know their educational background so don’t call that into question.
The last point: I think both are doing a great job for Ghana. Whenever I come here I look for Okoampa, Akadu, and Sarpong’s works. These are the three people who keep Ghanaweb exciting. Could you imagine that we read the same thing every day?
Yes, let us disagree , but stop this Ghanaian habit of putting down those who are obviously superior in intellect. It is called anti-intellectualism. You write “A PhD is supposed to be the peak of academic excellence, but if these two “PhDs” are anything to go by, my grandma would be perfectly right Neither is meant to for adulation. You are an idiot to compare your illiterate Grandma with PhD holders! By the way, are you a PhD holder? I don’t think so. It is a degree that every class one student hopes to get, but less than one percent does, and there are a lot people who envy them. What do you know about PhDs: They are trained to ask new questions and that is exactly what both are doing. Take your opinions back to whoever hired you to write this lopsided thrash which universalizes your silly opinions as the norm. Let Ghanaweb thrive without censorship

First, I have read your articles. I may not like what you write, but won't questions your writing craft. I have chased a number of people away from here who questoned my poetry. The question is what is poetry? Do I have to imitate Chaucer? Nope. I love my own style!
I could live with your errant suppositions. Again, what is poetry? Educate us! What would you consider as a poem? Educate us! When Chaucer (I bet you wish I could provide ryhmes like him), Shakespeare,Richard Wright, Soyinka, Ama Atta Aidoo, etc. started writing there were naysers like you who called their budding works jokes! I write what I write because I enjoy it. I am not a poet. I am a historian with massive paublications. And I am Akadu. I am every wo/man. I am every Ghanaian.

Akadu, no harm meant. I am glad you are you because you enjoy the free style of poetry. Only I sometimes also do not buy into all your opinions. We need to respect each other.

It seems it is only this extremely bigboted individual who takes herself this seriously. "I write the way I do because I enjoy it". I thought one of the markers of literary prowess was critical acclaim by your peers and if Tony, a peer is taking you apart for your crass, incoherent and rather predictive extremist rants and irrelevant diatribe based on your ignorance of everything Ghana, you have the nerve to say you are "every wo/man, every Ghanaian"?
Clearly you are out of your mind, overhyped and but for the fact that you have a free social medium to write your garbage, we should not even know about your existence!!! I would like to read any peer reviewed publications that you claim to have.
By the way when will you ever get out of the 'shadow' of your so-called "great mentor"? That 's/he' must really be proud of you for your utter garbage for only like-minded tend to flock together. S/he must be as mad as you are to continue to live together with you I suppose.
Your bigotry is legendary and you have gone beyond the pale and are beyond redemption. Please cease calling yourself a "Ghanaian" or pretending to be 'speaking on behalf of Ghanaians' because you are certainly not, and you damn well know it. Kwasea sem akwakwa!!

Columnist Anum, Tony
1) Typical instances of failure of the academia
2) When we boast of this kind of “intellectuals”
3) The best “Ph.D” in the world
4) Re: Seek not to Insult my Intelligence
5) Naming and shaming irresponsible columnists
6) The Okoampa-Ahoofe articles

You might hate them for sometimes showing their tibal traits and you will have my support for that. But hold on for a minute ?Dr super KNUST academic! Akadu has written a lot not only on politics but on such social issues as women emancipation, child labour, environmental degradation, the filth in our cities, chietaincy and land disputes and you find such topics which are the images and reflections of social realities 'failure in academia'? Not until i read Akadu's poem about Justice Kpegah i never knew that our retired Justices were enjoying freebies to the extend of living in state bungalows even in retirement when other serving civil and public servants are struggling to find accommodation. For a woman to be bold and fearless to attack our corrupt politicians as 'pen armed robbers' deserves commendation and not insults and attack on her academic credentials. Okoampa sometimes goes over the board: in his attempt to make his articles leave everlasting imprints he shows his typical 'Akan superiority'over other tribes but he is not different from Bokor (another PhD holder) in every respect, yet you decided to be silent about him.Do you call that fairness? Another writer is Sarpong (you didn't mention his name because he might not be a PhD holder) but i do enjoy his ideas on a wide range of topical isuues.Sarpong's perchant desire to insult often appears in the comments section when he gives boot for boot when he is provoked but it takes such courageous people to confront head-on some of the social issues confronting the country. But instead of castigating these people you could have done your readers a favour by writing on many of the topical isues confronting mother Ghana istead of taking these writers to the cleaners and leaving Bokor out. Just let us be fair in our dealings with fellow Ghanaians and stop the unnecessary destructive criticims. You could have approached your article by being a bit civil and constructive to their often tribalistic articles because sometimes the path finder needs to be told that his back is not straight.
