I know some people will come here and talk about PhD this or that. The spate of insults and ad hominem attacks come from those who have nothing to say and are overwhelmed by truth that underdirds what I write. Such are the people who call into question my academic credentials. They must be told that what we know and how we know are intellectual questions, but what we do with what we know entails moral and ethical responsibilities.

Nkrumah didn't always appoint the right persons to the right places. In the first place, he ruled at a time when there were not many qualified Ghanaians to man many of the state institutions. He had to make do with what was then available. That was also why he invested a lot in education.
Secondly, the man was a consummate politician and this reflected in his appointments most of which went to CPP members. He was also aware of quotas and promoted many people including women to positions that were higher than their competence. Some of these people could not even speak English but were faithful party members.
But there was no apparent tribalism in Nkrumah's appointments. Party loyalty was more important to him than tribal affiliation. Indeed in Nkrumah's time, tribalism was not very apparent. It was relatively easy to get government jobs so there was not much need to be tribalistic. Our population was also small.
One of the reasons for the one party state was to let everybody from every tribe to belong together in one party so that there would be nothing like Ewes vote for one party and Akans for another. That intention was good but the one party also had its disadvantages including making Nkrumah become more and more autocratic.
Today's tribalism is plainly viscious and extremely damaging. No president, so far, has succeeded with any concrete measures to address the issue effectively. Today it is the Ewes who are on top, tomorrow, northerners, another day, the Akans, etc.
But one thing is certain: it is the Akans who complain most bitterly about being sidelined by a government they perceive as not being their own. When an "Akan government" is in power, the other tribes also complain but not as bitterly. There's a certain imbalance there.
I don't think there will ever be a government that gets it right so that no one complains. The day we stop complaining along tribal lines, it will not be because there's a tribal balance in political appointments. It will be because we have grown beyond thinking and acting along ethnic lines. That time will surely come in our country's development. But it will not be in this generation or the next...

You can see that even in the numbers of articles and comments on the subject on ghanaweb. An "Akan govt" has been in power for only 8 of the past 22 years which means they have had more time to be on the complaining side than the others.

Sometimes, I strongly feel like most Ghanaians abroad that could have contributed to build mother Ghana are actually worse off contributing anything. Having an irrational guy with PHD(permanent head damage) not far from Jerry Rawlings dementia to post this article online, Said's much about the contribution diaspora's could to support mother Ghana.
To be rational, I would have considered how the North had been marginalized since independence and at least sympathize with the administration's appointees.

Actually, appointing Akans or ashantis for a position is a suicidal in Ghana today. Looking at it very well, these are people who believe their tribe to corrupt, steal and loot is normal. In other words, it is part of their culture and custom. So, in this case, how will one be sure that, if they are giving the opportunity to hold a position they will perform? there are so many examples that, whenever Akan or ashanti is givin a post, what he or she knows is to corruptor l from government. At the end of the day, they will end up putting the nation in to troubles after troubles. Looking at it very well, the corrupt activities made by Akans, would have been enough to put Ghana as one of the most advance countries in the world. But, today because of attitude of Akans, the nation remain poor and even poorer. Please, I would like to tell the writer that, she even though called professor, but looking at her idea, completely disappointed me. I wish Ghana will produce better professors than what she wrote.
