"On the cultural front, such slavo-parasitic practice as Trokosi, which is widely known to systematically rob its victims of their self-worth, and self-esteem, may well lead these victims to suicidal thoughts."
The above quotation!!! You must indeed be a fool. What has the practice of Trokosi got to do with the widening gap between the rich and poor in Ghana? Has any Trokosi lamented her plight to you to warrant your unjustified and unsolicited Mr. Right posture? Just mind your own business and leave the Trokosis alone. It is none of your culture so better not dabble in things you know nothing about.
Let me say it here and now that no government in Ghana can stop that practice. It is not a national culture and if to you that practice is inimical, let it be inimical to the practitioners alone and not to Ghana or your stock.
I was thinking you would have gone ahead to add: "The inhuman practice of head-hunting to bury chiefs or village heads prevalent among the Akans must be stopped, the Tigare cult banned and the invocation of Antoa Nyama deity to settle disputes must be discontinued."

Is there any reason why i shouldn't call you backward and prehistoric twitch?

I think burying innocent people alive with the coffins of your dead village heads resting on their heads is very modern and acceptable in your clime!!! And even raping giant she-apes is an acceptable pastime!!!

Idiot, do you know trokosi was outlawed by Rawlings? Practicing trokosi in Ghana is a crime and because the authorities have not arrested any trokosi child molester should not embolden you to say that no government can stop that practice. Are you a child molester or rapist you don't want trokosi to be banished?
If you have any evidence of anybody having been killed to bury a dead chief anywhere in Ghana, report it to the authourities because murder is a crime in Ghana.

Leave Rawlings out of this matter. Which authority are you talking about here? I repeat it here LOUDLY that nobody can ban Trokosi in my own enclave. I dare you or anyone else to invade any shrine in Anlo/Some and see what would befall him or her. It is none of your culture so don't go there.
The evidence is there aplenty. What are those countless human skulls doing in the palaces of your chiefs? It is your culture and pastime to either kill people or bury them alive as part of the burial rites of your dead chiefs or village heads. You cannot just deny that because you know you still do it. I therefore cannot waste my time reporting to the authorities what cannot be eradicated.
Like you rightly said, murder is a crime in Ghana so advise your stock to stop it.

That announcement by the Legon VC is the most useless piece of academic news I have ever heard. Just declaring that Legon is NOW or will soon be a research university is not important. Research is dynamic, and should go on at all points in time. Besides what has the current/previous research entities done for Ghana?
BRRI, CSIR, GAEC etc. etc. etc. Until they show us what they have done ALL THESE YEARS and a comparative analysis tells us they are worth supporting I will rather we put our funding money elsewhere. These institutions have been job centers for people with high degrees that can't find employment. They twist the hands of government and are thus funded when such moneys could have been given to the Ministry of education and other allied academic ministries.
So for how long are we going to support and fund the "USSR nuclear reactor" that was brought in pre-1966?
Tweaaa, we are not a serious country.

Most of his articles are just comments most people would have written directly under the articles they read. Not Okoampa. He must write yet another article for ghanaweb in his high-falutin language, no matter how petty the topic is.
He really has loads of time for trifles.

Prof, Happy New Year. I wonder if this is a new year resolution and if so, would it last (article without the usual attacks)?
You are absolutely right both on lack of the basis of Dr Dzorgbo's claims and the complexity of the problem in question. As I read the news item, I looked for the basis of his conclusions and expected to read that the conclusions were the findings of a research he or the department had conducted but was very disappointed that there was nothing like that. I asked myself, how could a sociologist and head of the Sociology Dept come out with such conclusions without being able to support the claims with any forensic evidence or basis. To say the least, I found that very interesting. The subject would be a very good research topic or further academic research and hope a PhD student or the department will take it up.

I didn't read the original news even though I saw it. Was going to but couldn't come round to do so. I went to read it now and was surprised that Ahoofe, just as many others on that thread, completely misunderstood what Dan-Bright said. For my life, what Dan-B said was far more complex than what Ahoofe, his critic, wrote here. I have to admit that Cardinal did a good job trying to explain to those hackers what Dan said and did not impute. Ahoofe should have read those posts and spare us this attack on Dan-Bright. He could have written it as an addition to what was said by Dan-B but not as a critique, since Dan-B touched on several reasons why more people are committing suicide in Ghana, the econ. pressure on some being only one. Yes, even a medical doctor or a lawyer can commit suicide in Ghana due to econ. pressure! So if we follow the Western pattern, we expect to see more suicides in Ghana, just as we are going to see more heart diseases and obesity!
Coming from an area of Ghana - environmentally natural disaster prone - with arguably the highest suicide rate, with govt undertaking special measures in the 80s to curb it, I find the topic interesting.

Even the journalist's report doesn't warrant the interpretation being given to what Dan-Bright said. He obviously and clearly listed a number of reasons why people are committing suicides in Ghana, giving economic factors/ pressures as one. He did not say that was the only reason. The journalist listed the other reasons too given by Dan-Bright.
Ahoofe was not the only person who misread the report. Akadu too was there with some stupid remark, just as many others.
People don't read things on Ghanaweb properly before beginning to make their stupid and insulting comments.
A while ago, so many people spent their time insulting Mr Chris Kpodo because he claimed he didn't read the agreement on the sale of that drill ship before signing it as a witness. Even Cardinal took the lead in doing that, having missed in paragraph 1 that he was just a "reluctant" witness, being sick at the time. As Cardinal later agreed, as a witness, you are not expected to read agreements. In fact, it may be considered inappropriate for a witness to read an agreement, and as a subordinate, as in the case of Chris Kpodo, impertinent and gross insubordination to ask to read the agreement! And you can be sacked for that!
