Thirdly, for sometime now Ghana has been obsessed with midfielders shooting from afar. The result is that midfielders are preoccuopied with shooting at goal at the least opportunity than playing some inventive or ingenious or creative play for decent goal scoring oppoortunities. i watched hearts played recently against king faisal and the hearts midfielders were just shooting on goal to the detriment of defence splitting passes. one player in particular called hayford was just shooting and shooting waywardly but anytime he does that he looks up to the bench and gives thumps up and of course he seemed to be receiving the applause from the crowd.

This is the reason why the GFA should not be building castles in the air and get Coach Appiah the necessary technical help in order improve the Black Stars before going to Brazil. Ineffective goal scoring is only a symptom of lack of high quality in our players. Quality is achieved from talent, good coaching and competitive playing time. Ghana has a lot of talent, no doubt about that, so once in a while we get a few players who are just gifted and figure out things by themselves. Good soccer habits and skills are acquired at the youth level and that is where effective coaching is needed most. Is this article saying Ghana has good defenders? I think our defenders can run around but don't read and mark the opponent effectively. I also think our midfield is OK, not a match to the Brazilians. I currently can't name a single playmaker, one who gives killer passes, in Ghana. We have players who have the ability but playmaking is not happening. One basic but important skill I have also noticed lacking in most Ghana players is good first touch and it is one of the reasons the Black Stars for example can't hold the ball. This article is exposing just one weakness among many. Our problem is not only goal scoring but our overall quality.
