I was used to playing on hard grass surface and did not know any better until I stepped on my young son's soccer pitch at his junior high. If your knees have been shredded a few times soft turf will definitely prolong your career, esp since we didn't train as a medical doctor, architect. Well, Paul has admitted that he used the word "route" wrongly so we should just overlook that and get to other things. Ok, Paul still wanted to redeem himself by claiming he used the word in some figurative sense. He should have saved us that...
But I am wondering if Paul is in the US. The use of "root" that way is typically American. Then he keeps saying "Head Coach" which is also what Americans, but not the British or Ghanaians, will call a football coach or manager.
As for what Paul is saying about the Black Stars, I don't really get it. Is he saying that people shouldn't say that Black Stars didn't play well? Or is he saying that people shouldn't criticize the BS because they have, after all, taken us to Brazil?
But the fact is that those criticizing (or even insulting) the BS will still be "rooting" for them all the way and will never abandon them once they take to the field. And these same people will be very disappointed and sad for several days if the BS lose an imprtant game. Some of them may not even be able to eat (or sleep with their wives)! Some of us (including Paul himself, no doubt) are still smarting under the pain of the South African miss in the last WC.
This is how passionate we are about football so, Paul, let people express their views but especially vent out their feelings. The BS did well to qualify from the Cairo game but many passionate lovers of the game wanted them to have played a different kind of game - one that gave hope for the future. One commentator said here yesterday that he would have preferred the Stars to have lost by 3 goals after playing a good game than the 2-1 result they got from the kind of game they played.
So, yes, we shall root for the Stars, but we shall continue to be critical of them too.
Which Brazilian coach said Brazil has 150 million football coaches?
That's the nature of the game...

As I always maintain, no one is perfect and I rather like the fact that Gbenyo pointed it out to me, a point I really appreciate. I don't see correction as diminishing at all, but I take a rather deem view of those who will try to 'milk' a grammatical error and rather ignore the substance of what a writer is trying to get across.
I am happy to be corrected and glad people are good enough to let me know my error.
As to your comments about the "passion" and "arm-chair coaching", you are right, we cannot change the way people feel about their team, but I happen to 'feel' that like all things imperfect (including myself dare I say), people should be measured in their reactions to the loss in Cairo and should not equate that to the BS not being 'ready' or "good enough" to win the World Cup. Of course, we should not over hype our hopes lest we become too depressed if we fail to win!

Of course the world cup is too 'big' in terms of profit-making and so nations other than that of Africa are always influence referees' decisions against African teams. FIFA is part of that collaboration.
The history of the world cup as you know has always been biased towards Africans. Take a look at small island like Britain, it has 4 nations that can represent it in the world cup....
And take a good look at the entire Africa and the number of teams that represent it.........do you get my drift now? Of course such biased machinations in favour of European teams is too 'big' for Africans to comprehend. Isn't it?
Take a good look at the FIFA world rankings year in, year out and most CRAP nations are always top ten, as compared to African nations way better than them. Keep an eye on how they will 'seed' European teams in the world cup, as history doesn't lie.
FIFA always finds a way to manipulate the seeding unfavourable to African teams and not forgetting the cheating referees. Please go through the history of the world cup and you would be right in saying that the cheating taht goes on against Africa is too 'big' for us...............
Our problem is we are too gullible to the workings of FIFA and many other colonialists world institutions expected to operate on level playing grounds.
Sellas Tetteh won the junior world cup for Ghana.....was he a white coach???

And I'm sad to say that it's the likes of you who keep Africans where we are irrespective of how hard most of us try to emancipate you from the mental slavery of inferiority complex.
Well, I don't blame you at all.....
I blame the system and the machinations keeping our citizens 'blind' from the truth of who you really are and what you are capable of achieving. With attitudes like yours in Africa, I'm sad to say we have a very long way to go...............
High quality coaches are attained by competing and pushing themselves against the best, to become the best.
High quality players can also make mediocre coaches win laurels with their technical abilities.
Our game is always lost because of the inferiority complex of some of our players. But I can assure you that, Ghana can and will win the world cup just as Sellas Tetteh did with the juniors. He pitched himself against the best and he won........was that not a chess board game??? I guess not.

These 'house-slaves' should not be allowed to push their agenda of inferiority complex on we the 'free people' of Africa.....who believe we are capable of achieving anything we put our minds to.
In this case, Kwesi Appiah has achieved great step worthy of praise. Just as Keishi did for Nigeria. The deserve praise for their abilities and not back-stabbing from the 'house slaves' of Africa.
Kwesi you are true son of Africa and I believe you can win the world cup for GHANA and most importantly for AFRICA!
We Africans are capable of achieving anything in life, provided we emancipate ourselves from this mental enslavement we have placed ourselves in by means of the colonialists education systems we have placed upon ourselves.
The results of such mental enslavement has produced people like those calling on foreign coaches to come help or replace Kwesi Appiah.
Kwesi and Keishi, once again, I salute you SIRS!! You make me really proud to be an African! Go! And win the world cup for Africa and help free the enslaved minds in our midst, stem our progress in everything we do as humans.

Adenyo, you are right, we ROOT for our team, but ROUTE is used both in describing how we 'guide' them to success and our ' celebration e.g. via 'route 37' when they have won.
The error is entirely mine. Thanks.
To err is human. As somebody said it is not our language.
"To err is human", don't blame it on language. Writer is plain lazy or he was saddled with a bad proof-reader.?

Route for root?
Clearly you have not read my correction above which I posted shortly after I saw Gbenyo's comment. Why not contribute to the article rather than nit-picking for the sake of it?
Has everything to do with education, my brother. We spent lots of time learning about synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and homophones. It is not just nite-picking.
Marcus, the writer has rendered his apology for using the wrong word. Why do you keep on harping on it? You say you "spent lots of time learning about synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and homophones" Evidently, you didn't learn tha ...

Does Burkina Faso have a case in her protest against Algeria for allegedly fielding an ineligible player during their second leg play-off game?
Also Algerian fans resorted to using laser beams which were focused on Burkinabe players. What is FIFA's policy regarding the use of lasers on the field?
