The government is out of its mind. Leave the forest pristine to cool the city. Mark my words, people will start easing themselves in the park.

Why can we not have anything useful in Africa or Ghana for that matter? It is simple, we breathe out crbon dioxide and vehicles also emit vast amounts of carbon dioxide and other toxic wastes. these go into the atmosphere. You can feel Accra is now like a bread baking oven. Nature removes the carbon dioxide by green plants through photosynthesis using the carbon dioxide to produce oxygen . It aslo prevents acid rain that causes eating of our lung tissue causing bronchitis. These are health issues. Nature needs to remain in balance so the green zones are a wayto keep this balance and reduce the cost of health care . Leave the forest alone and kick out the charlatan pastors . Achimotans worship " Kuzuinik"

Simple, clean up the forest. Remove the encroaches. Re-plant the trees. Reinforce protection of the land. Let it stand as a green area! Eco-tourism? No!

We must resist the destruction of this forest. Replanting trees would help the weather in Accra.

For whom you claimed you are, Honestman, you are indeed a very big disappointment! What is planned is savagery on a forest reserve, not a a civilised devt. Did you read my previous contribution? Shall re-post it here.

The more I read this planned further attack on the Achimota Forest Reserve, the more convinced I am that it is a diabolic act of savagery about to be unleashed by "modernised" savages who have no idea about the worth of pristine forest reserves except in $$$ terms! For lack of a better choice of word, I used "savages" guarded and with much apology to the real forest dwellers often called savages but who treasure much their forests.
When I read Dr. Nduom's 1st article, I wrote the contribution below. It is the more valid and poignant after reading the details of the intended devt plan for the forest. What will be left of the forest after inserting all those projects? Nothing! It'd be turned into a park of the 1st kind mentioned below for a few 1000 dollars! This PPP ruse some are using to amass wealth by sequestering public goods for their benefits must be challenged and exposed.
Yes, the forest reserve has been degraded and encroached upon a lot already but that doesn't mean that these processes couldn't be reversed. Kick out the encroachers, plant new trees, re-introduce some animal species which have disappeared and appoint guards to oversee the reserve, and in a few years nature would complete the rest of the reclamation. Only foot tracks shall be allowed through the reserve, with a few strategic observation posts, if any at all. What aesthetic values can the mushroom, so-called "Ghanaian elite," these children of illiterate peasants, elementary school leavers if lucky, etc, boast of at all???
BTW, my good pal, mate from 6th form to Legon and relation by marriage Kwasi Agbley was responsible for the initiation and supervision of the building of the Kakum Forest Canopy Walkway. I lodged with him in Cape Coast while collecting data during 1992/93 when the project was ongoing.
I therefore know a bit about the politics of that project, CEDECOM, etc.
--------
First of all, a big congrats to Paa Kwesi for taking up this issue. When I first read that the Achimota Forest Reserve shall be developed for religious retreats, my heart sank and I recollected the outcry some of us raised against the NPP's plan to "develop" the same forest.
The infernal plot of these savages pretending to be civilised to yet again encroach upon the one piece of forested land left in Accra and turn it into a degraded pleasure park must be opposed by all civilised people.
There are two forms of managed forested areas in cities in civilised countries. One is the common one like Hyde Park and all those with well mowed grounds. The other is like a forest reserve where the grass is not mowed and trees grow wildly and only have foot tracks in them. Both serve different purposes. Achimota Forest Reserve falls in this second category and MUST BE LEFT as such.
Can the govt show us what they have done with the first category of parks in Accra and hence come up with this diabolical plan to turn the Achimota Forest Reserve into the same?
Ken Kuranchie came from prison and pronounced that Ghanaians are not civilised - something I knew all along as a kid - but the extent to which some claiming to be our leaders, thanks to modern politics, are displaying their uncivilised attitudes, ways and actions is just too much!
STOP THIS GROSS ENCROACHMENT, PRESIDENT MAHAMA!
