Some TV sets have hidden camera eye in the screen which when strategically placed in a room can film every activity that transpired, and can be viewed remotely on laptops/internet. One popular lawyer in New York City use one of such TV's to uncover the infidelity of his troublesome wife who had been a pain in his ass for many years, an evidence which would be used later in court to facilitate a smooth divorce. No one is safe now with the proliferation of these smart phones and other gadgets flooding the markets.

It is clear that the writer does not have any in depth knowledge about intelligence gathering. He assumes that we live (or should live) in a world where nobody does intelligence gathering. That's impossible.

Everybody knows new technology has made more
intelligence gathering easier. This is no secret. ALL countries indulge in electronic intelligence gathering. The country whose technology is most advanced has the greatest advantage in this. Nothing strange about that.
The only strange thing about the US action is that they were caught. And they were caught because one of their own decided to give the game away. That means US recruitment methods were faulty. Snowden shouldn't have gotten the security clearance that enabled him to get away with so much.
And, btw, Merkel's hacked phone was not her security phone. It was not a phone on which she would discuss state secrets. But it was still embarrassing that the US were caught doing what they did to an ally. And the Germans had to protest profusely because of domestic public opinion not because they didn't know the US could do it. They certainly knew. There's a certain hypocrisy in all these that this present writer doesn't discuss.
The writer doesn't also seem to know much about how the Vicky Hammah tape was obtained. It was simple and did not involve our security capos. What should Vicky be demanding from our telecom companies?
The writer also mentioned certain incidents which show that it is he, the writer and not the reader, who doesn't know that such things are possible.
