South African satellite channel SuperSport International has agreed to pay in excess of R2-billion (approximately US$285-million) for the TV, mobile and internet rights for the country’s
Premier Soccer League (PSL) over the next five years. SuperSport has signed a US$2.5 million deal with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to secure the broadcasting rights to the country's top soccer league.
The deal will run from 2011 to 2013. Nigeria's top domestic soccer league has secured a four-year broadcast deal with SuperSport reported as worth US$34 million in total.
The Ugandan Super League (USL),has inked a US$5 million, 5year broadcast deal with South African-based sports channel SuperSport.
South African pay-TV operator SuperSport has agreed a broadcast deal with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the deal will see SuperSport provide live coverage of 20 matches from Kenya’s
second division, starting with Wednesday’s match between Nakumatt FC and Moyas FC, until the end of the current season. The Tusker Premier League, the highest level of club soccer in Kenya,
has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Puma. The deal, which is worth US$117,000 overall, will see Puma sponsor and supply match balls used in the league. "The partnership between KPL and Puma will cost Kshs ten million over three and a half years.
“Each team will be provided with balls while Puma will gain on pitch side branding and as well on the broadcasting point of view SuperSport will be able to capture the brand.”
East Africa Breweries Limited's (EABL) Tusker brand has been announced as the new title sponsor of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL). The multi-year agreement, worth US$1.96 million overall,
sees the top flight of soccer within Kenya officially known as the Tusker Premier League for the next three years.
Kenyan Premier League (KPL) sides Mathare United and Ulinzi Stars have announced new sponsorship deals with Puma and Metropolitan Life respectively.
Mathare United's one-year apparel deal with Puma sees the German sports manufacturer supplying the soccer team with boots, replica merchandise to sell to fans as well as playing and training kit.
The combined value of Puma's contribution will total US$34,000. Meanwhile KPL champions Ulinzi Stars, a soccer team made up of the country's military servicemen, have signed a US$17,000 deal with Metropolitan Life Insurance.
The Zambian Super Division is also sponsored by MTN Zambia, which in June announced a 2.4 billion kwacha (about US$480 000), as their sponsorship package this year for both Chipolopolo and the top-flight league with the winner of the championship race getting about US$50 000.
With Dynamos collecting US$75 000, for winning the Premiership title last year under the sponsorship deal between the PSL and Delta Beverages through their Castle Lager brand, it appears the domestic Premiership is still, to some extent, better sponsored compared to the one in Zambia.
The Kenyan Premier League is operated and run as a private limited company incorporated in October 2003 under the Companies Act of Kenya. It is fully owned and managed by the 16 member clubs with each club being a shareholder
KPL and SuperSport signed a $5.5 million four-year partnership deal, the biggest football sponsorship in the country and in the region. The deal
which is expected to expire in 2011 will see a renegotiated contract double that amount to $11 million.

His mother is Egyptian, his wife is Egyptian, and his late father was a Burkinabe who settled in Ghana. Egyptians are known to employ unorthodox methods, usually through food and drinks, to slow down opponents during critical matches. It is possible they could try to use the Egyptian serving as Ghana's Ambassador in Cairo. The Black Stars must be careful if the return match is played anywhere in Egypt. They must not trust even their own Ambassador because he is Egyptian.

Danny Greetings. Inasmuch as we want to go to Brazil, the wellbeing of our players should guide our desires. If we refused to go, Ghana could be sanctioned and the Pharoahs would be given the nod to go to Brazil by the corrupt FIFA. The hearts of the people would be broken. This is literally, between the devil and the deep "RED SEA." So what man for do?
I support your suggestion that the government and GFA should keep on pressing the FIFA to change the venue for safety reasons. And also for fans to begin to write to these contacts to let them know how we think about our players. However, I will probably say that, if nothing is done by the FIFA, another solution is to camp the players in a nearby country and flying to Cairo early in the morning on the same day and leaving right after the game. You know we could even camp at unknown place like Israel (better not let them know about it because that will infuriate them more) and get there there in the morning before going to the park. Ethiopia also can be considered. But Israel or Jordan are more closer to Cairo than Ethiopia.
I am thinking about all these because ONLY soccer UNITE the citizens and brings us hope. I don't want to see the good people of Ghana in tears, chasing our politicians with fufu, Kenkey and Akple for not doing the damnedest best to take us to Brazil.
Very tough decision though.

Camping the GHANA BLACK STARS at a nearby country, like Israel/Jordan,would be very unique.

I should think,as Israel is not far from Egypt, that would be more than perfect, therefore,KWASI APPIAH & GHANA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION,should think about it,and make a prior arrangement towards that, should it comes the worst, that Ghana is forced to play in EGYPT.
THE SAFETY OF OUR PLAYERS AND ORGANIZERS/OFFICIALS SHOULD BE PARAMOUNT,TO EVERY RATIONAL HUMAN BEING,ENDOWED WITH REASONING.
The writer suggested,we all bring our strong reasons and cause to the FIFA,so they would feel/consider/evaluate/weigh how we feel about the insecurity, dangers of our platers and officials, and the fact that one cannot determine the heart of an angry mob : BRUTAL/SAVAGE,WILD.
We cannot compromise the safety of our dear BLACK STARS PLAYERS & OFFICIALS.
One cannot determine or underrate the fury of these wild mob.
WE BETTER TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE SITUATION,BEFORE WE MAKE ANY MOVE FROM GHANA.
HE WHO DOES NOT STAND FOR SOMETHING,FALLS FOR EVERYTHING.
GHANA GOVERNMENT AND GFA SHOULD STAND FOR OUR RIGHTS,IN OUR BID TO DEFEND OUR BLACK STARS PLAYER'S SAFETY,AS WELL AS THE OFFICIALS/MANAGEMENT.
Ghana will,by all means win there, once more, and that will/can infuriate the angry mob,to ignite and explode like a dynamite,to change and arrange things,at our boy's detriment.
FOOTBALL/SPORTS IS STAGED TO PROMOTE UNITY/TOGETHERNESS,LOVE,PEACE & TRANQUILLITY,AND NOT OTHERWISE.
A word to the wise,is enough.

Most likely the Egyptian officials will promise FIFA that they will do everything to protect the black star and their management, But I am afraid, the possibility of fans or an organized group trying to intimidate the Stars before the game and try to instil fear is my worry. We can't take anything for granted. Playing at any city in Egypt does not lessen the threats, fears or intimidation of our players. And that is why we need to think twice before this match.
Even though, camping at a nearby country is not the best solution, it is our the possible solution to our nightmare or dilemma. We neither can't afford to take our the lives of players for granted nor not going to Brazil because of fear. The players would be tired by flying on the same day that they have to play the game, but I believe, they would not be so tired to concede 5 goals without scoring even one goal for us.
Camping at Israel; less than 2 hrs or an hour journey to Cairo should be looked into NOW. Even hiring a helicopter for possible uplifting to and from the park should also be looked into.

Due to his owner's negligence, a Ghanaian dog became lost in the deepest jungles of Africa. Wandering around, the poor Ghanaian dog notices an Egyptian leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch.
Just then, the Ghanaian dog noticed some bones laying on the ground close by. The Ghanaian dog immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching Egyptian leopard. Just as the jungle cat is about to leap, the Ghana dog loudly says, "My, that was one delicious Egyptian leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?"
GHANA SHOULD NOT PLAY THE GAME IN CAIRO.
Hearing this, the Egyptian leopard slinks away. "That was too close," thought the Egyptian leopard, "that Ghana dog nearly had me'
Meanwhile, a mischievous Brotherhood Mujaheddin monkey had observed the entire scene, and decided to cause trouble for the Ghana dog, while getting on the good side of the Egyptian leopard as well. The Brotherhood monkey dashed off after the Ghana leopard, to tell him what truly happened.
The Ghana dog saw the Brotherhood monkey dash off, and suspiciously tailed him from behind. He overhears the Brotherhood monkey spilling the beans, and quickly decides on a course of action, racing back to the pile of bones.
At the same time, the Egyptian leopard has decided to take care of the Ghana dog once and for all. The Brotherhood monkey hops on the Egyptian leopard's back, to watch the demise of the doomed Ghana dog. As the Egyptian leopard approaches, he can hear the Ghana dog talking to himself: "Where's that lazy Brotherhood Mujaheddin monkey? I sent him off half an hour ago for another Egyptian leopard, and he's still not back!"

Can we trust the Egyptians when the Muslim Brotherhood have been angered by the Egyptian Government then?. Can we blame them if Ghanaian footballers and Ghanaian football fans are murdered if the match is played in Egypt?. I support the idea of not playing in Egypt.
Ghana can do without the World Cup if the venue is not removed to another country devoid of internal security problems.

The GFA and the government must make strong representations to FIFA to ensure that Egypt provides more than adequate security to the Black Stars and the supporters. These security arrangements must be approved by FIFA and GFA before the match starts.
It is the duty of our government and GFA to ensure that there is adequate security. It is not the duty of individual Ghanaians to put pressure on FIFA to make a venue switch. Individual Ghanaians don't know what security measures FIFA, GFA and the government are demanding from the Egyptians.
The problem in Cairo will be what the Egyptian supporters will do and it is they who should be kept in check.
I think a military government is in a position to provide better security than a civilian one. The regime that is relying on "brute force to lead its people" will be better able to keep that people in check. The army/police that are used to keep the people in check during political riots/demonstrations should also know how to do its job when the people are gathered at the national stadium in Cairo to watch an important match that the whole world will also be watching.
The government in Egypt knows it doesn't have to do anything to damage its image further. The least they can do is to provide security for a visiting team and its supporters for one match. I am sure they will do it.
They will also be out to see that the frustration of the Egyptian football fans over their failure to qualify is not turned into political violence which will redound to the regime's disadvantage.
I think the most important thing Ghanaians should be concerned with is to make sure that the Egyptians do not score five goals in Cairo without their scoring at least one. That should be our main worry which will be the duty of the players and the technical team.
Then the rest will take care of itself.

If FIFA decides that Egypt cannot guarantee the Stars' safety in Egypt, they are likely to ask the match to be played in a neutral country. One thing FIFA will NOT do is to ask the match not to be played! Ghana cannot aim at not playing the match.

Danny Boy, this is a good piece. I fully support your call. The safety and security of our players and supporters should be our highest priority. Given the state of insecurity in Egypt due to the on-going political unrest and deadly civil protests, actually, that should in itself proactively convince FIFA to relocate the 2nd leg of the Egypt-Ghana World Cup play-off to a neutral venue. I believe FIFA's own assessment of security in Egypt might be rated as "high risk" but the world football governing body is turning a blind eye due to behind the scene 'politics' of Egypt's "comprehensive security assurances". Lets put England or Germany in Ghana's position. Do you think FIFA would have taken Egypt's security assurances and allow any European nation to play this crucial Word Cup qualifier in Cairo under this volatile environment?
The Ghana FA should protest and request FIFA very strongly to relocate the match to a neutral venue. I think it's extremely unlikely for Egypt to overturn the 6-1 score line to qualify to Brazil at the expense of Ghana. But such crucial match should be played in a safe, pleasant and peaceful atmosphere, and not in a violent and life-threatening environment.
If the Egyptian authorities had to smuggle their own players and technical team out of the Cairo airport from the baying mob and angry supporters after their humiliating 1st leg defeat in Kumasi, what happens should their fans find a 2nd leg defeat hard to take? This could, potentially lead to crowd violence both inside and outside the stadium, and our Ghanaian players and supporters could bear the brunt of their anger and frustration.

From your argument, LONTO-BOY, Ghana government should put pressure on FIFA to move the game to a NEUTRAL COUNTRY. We shouldn't play in Egypt kuraaaa. If the match is moved to another venue in Egypt other than Cairo, what says the trouble makers will not go there to kill some of the Ghanaian players and especially the supporters who will be more vulnerable?
1. So what Ghana should do is to request that the match be played say in Libya or Morocco.
2. It is the Ghana government that should make this request not individual Ghanaians writing letters to FIFA.
My conviction is that the Egyptian government will go to all extent to ensure the security of the players and the technical team. It is the supporters I fear for. It will be more difficult to protect them.
The Egyptian government is hard pressed for legitimacy. They won't do anything to convince the world that they don't have control of things. Our government should not take them on their word but ensure that the security arrangements are to our satisfaction. After all, we have our own security folk who can access the situation. Or don't we have?

KK, I think my man, LONTO BOY means neutral country and not just another venue in Egypt.
Yes, it is the Ghana government and GFA that should protest and request a change of venue as LONTO-BOY said, however the "noise or agitation" from people- writing to FIFA- also somehow helps. They will realize that the people care about their players and they would be held responsible if no action is taken to lessen our fears.
I do agree with you on Egyptian government not doing anything. They were thinking of finding something that will UNITE and bring PEACE in their country even for a moment and it seems, their dreams and hopes have been shattered by this. They will look on when our team are being intimidated before the match, with the hope of achieving their goal- qualifying for the Brazil at all cost.
Only 2 suggestions or solutions:
1- We refuse to play the match and allow the "bastards" go to Brazil. Or,
2- We encamp at a nearby country like Israel and fly to and leave Egypt on the same day. And also looking into the possibility of hiring a helicopter to get our players from the park right after the match.

The problem will not be the Black Star players. I am sure the Egyptians will do everything to see that the players and the technical team come to no physical harm. It will be easy to protect some 35 players and officials. The problem will be the supporters and those Ghanaians living in Egypt. They will be more difficult to protect.
But the players cannot be protected from psychological attacks. Egyptians will do everything to taunt them and put them out of balance. That is where our boys should show themselves tough. They are all profs but there are some young ones among them. They should be given extra pep and encouragement especially by the older players.
We shall overcome. We should try to score an early goal and win the psychological game from the start.

I would not even want the guys to play there, in case of change of venue. I Can't trust anyone in those countries. Morocco is far from Cairo, unless FIFA wants us to play there.
The questions should be, are they camping in Ethiopia and moving to Cairo the same day that we are playing the game or what? How long will that take them from Addis Ababa to Cairo? If they want to get to Cairo the same day, then Jordan should be considered, because of the distance. Jordan is a safe place and moreover it will not infuriate them as Israel would have done.
Yes, but the Government should keep on pressuring FIFA for a change of venue. That should be our priority, with the camping our people in Jordan or Ethiopia as alternative. And the fact that we need to give them pep, especially the PROFESSIONALS. I believe the younger will die to get to Brazil for the world to get to know them. IT is the professionals like KPB, Essien, Gyan and Muntari that I am worried about; they might not take the chances. Note that, it would not be them, but their handlers from their teams.

CAF is organizing this thing for FIFA. The match must be played in Africa. I can't imagine it's being taken outside Africa.
I don't think the players will be in any physical danger from the Egyptian people. The security that Egypt will provide will be geared especially towards the players - even their own too. The govt will also make sure there are no riots that can be used for political purposes.
The Stars must spend a night there if security arrangements are agreed on and be made to practice on the pitch amidst heavy security and no press or spectators.
Yes, the owners of the professional players will raise concerns but FIFA's rules are clear on this. I am sure the guys want to play also. Gyan must finish paying his debts to Ghanaians for missing that penalty in South Africa ... lol. We have forgiven him but he must finish paying that debt...

I am not talking about the game being played in Jordan. Of course, the game would be played on Africa shore and most like Cairo, without being moved to anywhere. I am more concerned about our players being camped at a nearby Country and flying to Cairo the same day and leaving right after the match. Neither the CAF nor the FIFA has any decision on where and how we camp our players before the match; that is solely the duties of GFA and our government.
Yes, I am hoping and believing that there wouldn't be any physical danger to our players and any of the Pharoahs and Bradley. However, we can't and shouldn't take any promises from the Egyptian government. No one can predict the behavior of an aggrieved Arab fanatic. You should know this by now. Their government might try, but they can't assure us the safety and security of our stars and their management 100%. This is the reason why I am more concerned about where we camp our players.
Also, concerning the professional players, I know the owners can't deny them from playing for their national teams, but there is no law that bans them from bombarding them with current news about what is going on in Egypt. And you know what that is, right? Deliberate coercing. GYAN for sure will come, Essien is not being used in Chelsea would love to make up to Ghanaians. But I doubt KPB would be coming. Not that I am worried about losing this match, far from that. But I am trying to face the reality with hope. Because, Egyptian fans attacked Algerian players from the airport to the stadium 4 years ago that caused FIFA to fine the EFA. And don't forget the smoke at Baba Yara Stadium. If they could do that here, why can't they do that in Cairo?
Whatever decision that FIFA takes, GFA and Ghana government should make sure that our players are well taken care of and that is what I want to hear. Any of the players that decides not to take part should be left alone and not punished. But I will say this again; I would prefer that our players are camped in Jordan which is closer to Cairo to the assurance and promise from the Egyptian Football Association.

Ok, I get your point about the camping place. Yes, it's very important and you want them to jet in and out same day. I think Ethiopia is good. It's true that the Egyptian fans are terrible but I think they have a particular hatred for the Algerians.
I also want KPB to play if he's willing. But if he drags his feet, they should just leave him. His team is not doing well in the Bundesliga. They lost today at home and KPB was substituted late in the game. But the guy is good if he really wants to play.
It's still three weeks to the day and more time to sort the security situation out. That day will be a big qualifying day. 3 of Africa's places would have already being decided by the weekend before. Algeria will take on Burkina the same day. Europe will be deciding its last four places with France and Portugal hoping to get by Ukraine and Sweden respectively. Jordan, Mexico, Uruguay and New Zealand will all be in action the following day. We hope and hope that no bad news come from Africa!!! FIFA should make sure of that.

GFA have to be very tactical in this case. They have to use Diplomatic channel and security reports to press home their demand to play outside Egypt.I don't think GFA can get FIFA to favour their demand so easily.Let me throw light on why FIFA may refuse GFA's demand. If we look at football as the most popular sports in the world then FIFA could say that this game will bring some sense of unity to the Egyptian people.Perhaps a very good opium to reduced the political tension in the country that is urgently needed.GFA must be able to convince FIFA not only on security grounds but politically as well, otherwise the request will be void and null.I am saying this because technically GFA has no evidence to prove that some foreign team has been maltreated in Egypt. We can say GFA is trying to prevent Black Stars out of the political chaos but Egypt can also say Black Stars have no evidence to that effect and they can give them all the necessary protection.FIFA could also say,had the Egyptians played draw game in Kumasi,GFA will not mind to go and play the return match in Egypt. The Black Stars must get ready to play in Egypt whilst GFA deals with the preventive matters. On the other hand, the Stars should not be afraid now because it could have a negative psychological effect on them.Thank you.

But they will be concerned about security issues that will endanger the game. That is where our government must act through AFC to FIFA and directly with the Egyptian government. Ghana and Egypt are not political enemies and we can easily talk with each other.
Yes, the Stars must get ready to play in Egypt, in Cairo even, and leave GFA/Ghana government to deal with the security issues. All we can do now is to make enough noise about the security situation so that the Egyptians will be aware. Then we go play and do well there.

Of course, there is politics underlying all this. But the point is that FIFA is NOT going to cite any political reasons for their actions or inactions. That is why I disagree with your earlier point that FIFA will use the game to cool the political wounds of the Egyptian people. Nobody is talking about NDC/NPP which is an exclusively Ghanaian thing!
Other than that, I agree with every other point you raised. And you're right that the boys shouldn't panic for their lives and send wrong signals. They should concentrate on the football and do their best. Like I said elsewhere, if there will be any violence, it will be directed at the Ghanaian supporters, not the players and the technical staff that will be securely protected.

I disagree with the contention of Mr. Daniel Pryce. KK had it right when he wrote that "the Egyptian government is hard pressed for legitimacy. They won't do anything to convince the world that they don't have control of things."
Come on Pryce, we are not given the Egyptians any credit at all. They are a civilization. They've been civilization since time immemorial. They have a reputation to maintain. People from all over the world go to Egypt for tourism. Do you seriously think they will sacrifice that by attacking our Black Stars?
Neither will they risk foregoing the billions of $'S they receive every year from the US.
Nor lose the millions they receive every year from the US to shore up their military.
I think Mr. Pryce that you are doing what some Egyptians want some cowards in Ghana to: don't go to Cairo, and thereby forfeit the three points and a trip to Brazil.
This is what I will do:
1. Send a delegation of Ghanaians led by Sekou and his sister Samia to the match in Cairo.
2. Or send a high-powered delegations made up of Mr. & Mrs. Rawlings, or Mr. & Mrs. Kufuor, or Kofi Annan to show support for our team. We should let the Egyptians know that the Black Stars will vanquish the Pharoahs again.

You are kidding, right?
Egypt is a civilization, that's right but what about their cultural infringement on individual rights of the people, especially women? Not long ago, in fact, just about three days ago, I saw a television report asserting every 9 in ten women is molested/ sexually harassed in Egypt. And it is a fact, because I have followed every report in female harassment, even when a short video was produced by a male Egyptian journalist who disguised himself as a lady and had his taste of the thorny issue. Just two days ago, a muslim cleric was seen on a video blaming women for the harassment, alluding to the idea they (women) go out too much. Does this speak of civilization for you?
I have also followed with interest the Egyptian league and can confidently say there's always altercation brewing within the ranks of team supporters. We can't forget soon there was dozens killed in a local match not long ago.
Have you also forgotten the amount of Christians leaving the country. If you don't know, most of them are having their homes burnt for belonging to Christianity. That does not take away the civility from Egyptians, but is certainly speak volumes about the security issues in the country. Mubarak was iron-fisted because that is the only way arabs can be contained: They don't care for their own blood brothers and sisters because savagery is what they know and it is cultural, so how do you expect them to respect black Christians from Ghana?
