Yesterday, a former colleague from the Council of State was asked on Adom FM about what he thinks of Kofi Awoonor. The man was very emphatic that Kofi Awoonor, despite his educational background, was "very divisive".
Kofi Awoonor is the engine behind the never-ending hatred between Ashantis and Ewes. Some of his people see him as a "star" and believe whatever he says and writes due to his educational background.

We should continue reading lots of Shakespeare BUT ALSO lots of our African writers a few of whom are extremely good. But there are too few of our own great writers. We need more Africans to become great writers - great as a writer, not great as an African writer.
As for Awoonor, his death is unfortunate. Anybody's death is unfortunate and it's true that he is one of the few we have in our literary firmament. Let's hope his literary works live on after him and take greater significance and inspire others.
