A vivid example could include a bachelor of aviation technology with commercial pilot license at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology or Bachelor of Science Business Administration Aviation option at the School of Business in University of Ghana. This can give birth to the first ever collegiate aviation training program in Ghana and probably West Africa. The Afienya flight school premises and infra-structure is a potential nest for collegiate aviation education, based on its proximity with the University of Ghana. This will give graduates the opportunity to have a four year collegiate education in either business or technology and a professional pilot’s license as done in the US. The Universities can team up with GCAA certified local flying schools, to conduct the flying education phase while the academic course work will be done on campus. Graduates will be more marketable and have better and wider option in a fast and evolving world of aviation industry. I know some of the barriers of entry could be the cost of training, regulatory standards and training platforms acquisition. I still think that it could be started on a smaller evolutionary scale at Afienya and then eventually, with a sub regional effort and cooperation evolve into a Regional Aeronautical University akin to what is now Regional Maritime University for our marine counterparts. This venture could save Ghana and other sub regional partners millions of dollars that is spent to train professional pilots in the US and Europe.

Kindly forget about your dream. Ghana your land of birth has no airloine for you to drive. You can however go into guinea fowl business. That is a very lucrative business

Most commercial airline pilots are taken from years in the Country' Air Force. No way in Ghana you can ever get the schooling or experience to fly a huge air craft. Plus they only take the best tested and brightest.

It was beautiful when Ghana had her own airline with it's fantastic pilots, such as Capt Agyare, Capt Dorkenoo, Capt Sam and many more. Bring back our Airline.

I'm really thankful I came across this article and somehow regret not seeing this 3yrs ago. It'd been my dream of being in the skies for as long as I can remember, and I spent the last 3 years, after my degree trying to convince myself that there was still a tiny ray of hope that may show up. I almost joined the air force but lost the dream when I learnt I might be an airman but not actually fly. And yeah, I didn't just want to be a soldier.
It's a really big challenge in Ghana and Africa...the cost of flying and flying itself. Called Mish a couple of times, and their prices were pretty scary.

I read every single word in this article. Kudos to the author, I know exactly how valuable the information you've put out here is... And the effort you used in research is simply priceless.
I personally chased after every single information relating to being a pilot after university, as it had always been my dream to fly. Even if I was to fly for free. I spent almost 7 years of my life chasing opportunities and writing to schools, including Mish. The costs are just too much, and I'm afraid only the very rich might be able to afford to hit the skies. It's not just Ghana, it's global. I know some countries train pilots for free, but that comes with certain requirements and clauses.
As you know, I bumped into this article while while randomly searching to see if there were still opportunities.
With this article, I have finally been able to find closure on that dream and focus whole mindedly on my current career.
However, I still look up to identify the different aircraft's as they fly over.
Well done, I appreciate you efforts in this research! I hope others would read it thoroughly to be able to make conclusions and live happily with their decisions.
