He came in 1979 and finally 1981. 15 years after the factories were closed . Did you expect them to work well well. Even the tractors were left in the fields at the mercy of the weather .Good house keeping or sheer negligence or stupidity . When you had power for 8 years why could you not rehabilitate and collect the funds from J J " cronies" ? After all you jailed some and murdered others . rather you stole so much you were labelled " Ali babaa & the 40 thieves" . In 2007 an elderly lady at Osu polling station was captured pleading with JJ " daddy pleasesave us " K4 your best had left a legacy of tribalism so much the Ga Adngbe youth would not al;low him to have on office on Ga land . Then the Asante youth and then the Ahanta youth . graduated from Legon in 1982, I was posted to Bekwai SDA Secondary school in Ashanti to do my national service.
Rawlings had introduced the Junior secondary school reform and some of the intake were from the Junior Secondary schools. Those students were horrible, they couldn't write a sentence without a grammatical error.
They were immature, ill-prepared for a secondary education. I spent most of my time correcting grammatical mistakes instead of the subject I was supposed to teach. That is the legacy Rawlings has left us. I spent 5 years in secondary school and an additional
2 years in Sixth-Form. Then 3 more years at the University Of Ghana- Legon. When I came out, I was mature,
very educated and hard-working. All this long education helped me when I came to America and had to go back to school while working. I still don't know why Rawlings scrapped the education system that was working.Ghanaians were so educated, everybody wanted Ghanaian teachers. Those who went to Nigeria were carried shoulder high by their students. Libya sent planes to recruit
Ghanaian teachers and paid them in US
Dollars. Other countries courted Ghanaians in various professions.
The New York Times recently said that one-third of Ghanaian trained doctors
are working outside Ghana. This may not be good for Ghana, but think of how much money they are sending home.
This is due to the good education many of us received under the old system. I pray every day that a politician will come and take us back.
