Great piece as usual. I was not expecting everybody to accept the SC's judgement, no matter what it was. As you pointed out, I was equally disappointed with the VP. The President was about to address the nation so why was the VP making any comments at all. As for Tsatsu, I am sure we are not alone in expressing our disappointment. By what Tsatsu did he has definitely open the floodgates for attacks on the SC Justices. Some of us critized the NPP when they wanted to kick Justice Atuguba off the panel, now Tsatsu has done the same with this belated attack on Justice Anin Yeboah.
I did not expect anything different from Sir John - he is known flame thrower., so his comments were expected, even if not appropriate.

All these sidebar remonstrations are just simply redundant, Why didn't you wait " Until the written decisions and reasons offered by each Justice is made public and the people have had time to read and digest them," before rendering this quality assurance preamble? Are you the peace council now? Anim Yeaboah was appointed by Kufuor to the supreme court to jail the likes of Tsatsu he Kufuor hated, don't get me wrong it's personal. Therefore Justice Anim Yeboah can speak for himself if he sees fit without your fanatic red herring.

The VP said although he accepts the final verdict he disagrees with those SC judges who voted for the petition (even though they were in a minority). He feels they erred.
Kofi Ata wherein lies the difference between what the VP said and what Akuffo Addo said other than one was a winner and the other a loser in the final outcome?

Kp, it's very interesting how you analysed the two and came to your conclusion that they were the same. Absolutely not. Nana Akufo-Addo said he disagreed with the 4-5 majority decision but accepted it, whilst the VP said he did not understand why the petition was not dismissed in the first place and that, it should have been a 9-0 decision on all the claims.
Nana Akufo-Addo understood why some Justices ruled against him but the VP did not understand why some ruled in his favour. The VP also claimed the petition should not have been heard at all. In other words, the Justices wasted time in entertaining the petition. In my view, as VP who is a heart beat away from the President's seat, to publicly make such statements is tantamount to lack of understanding the Constitution of Ghana, which he ought to respect, protect and defend. His utterances also indicated his inability to appreciate the role of the Judiciary, especially, the separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary. He has every right to disagree with the decision but not in the way he expressed them. His recklessness sought to bring the judiciary into disrepute.

LONTO-BOY, I now understand why as Deputy to Kwesi Botchwey at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, he was always behind the scenes. I remember in those days our office invited Kwesi Botchwey to speak to a group on a training programme and he could not attend, so I requested that Amissah-Arthur came in his place. I was over-ruled. How many people knew that he was the Deputy to Kwesi Bocthwey?
The first time I had dealings with him was when we went to him to sort out some additional funding for our office and the second time to secure authorisation foreign exchange to pay the allowances of some students from our organisation who were on training abroad because Bank of Ghana told us that there was no foreign exchange to do the transfer. At those times he came across to me as a very knowledgeable and level headed person, so I was shocked to hear him being that reckless and irresponsible.

Kofi,
Unlike you with your propensity to engage in double-speak which would have made the priests of the Delphic Oracle proud, some of us were categorical in dismissing that case as a a foolish case, and we have been proved right. It is from that position of strength that I write thus....
I did my utmost not to waste my time following and commenting on this foolish case from its very beginning. But since it seems almost all [on the petitioners' sides, btw] have lost their senses, let me intervene.
As some of us rightly said from the very start [and that includes some astute NPP supporters], it was a frivolous case without merit. We expected a 9-0 decision against all the reliefs sought. Tsatsu, expecting such a similar decision, was simply trying to explain why some of the justices granted some of the petitioners porous reliefs when there are clearly no merit to them. The obvious explanation he adduced was the political leaning of some of the judges, and picked on Justice Anim-Yeboah, who he claimed has a record of taking decisions based on his political leaning. Yes, that's serious accusation indeed and rightfully deserves public perusal. Was Tsatsu wrong or right in his observation? He just came out to defend himself again, claiming he only spoke the truth. Anyway, anyone who wants to charge him for contempt of court is welcomed to, but wait a moment!
Commenting on how and why judges of the SC of the US voted a certain way is part of the legal scholarship and devt in that civilised nation. In fact, before a judge is appointed, he/she is perused extensively in the media and Congress about ideological leaning - whether liberal (Democrat) or conservative (Repub), earlier judgements on certain controversial issues, etc. This is repeated anytime a controversial case is before the SC. Nobody is charged with contempt for doing that! Can you blokes therefore moved on?
After all, Tsatsu didn't start this questioning of the motives of the justices. Since the foolish case went to court, the justices seen as not pro-NPP, esp. Atuguba, have been under a barrage of abuses, attacks, long articles directed against him Atuguba in particular. After the verdict, it reached such a high crescendo that we can call it a deluge! What other accusations are there which you blokes can make against the justices who voted 9-0 against that foolish case which you haven't made already? Tsatsu fired only one warning shot into their camp and hell should break loose??? No, na scatter, wey dey scatter!
I know that he Tsatsu is an Anlo man and comes from a long line of traditional rulers on my Right wing, those who subscribe to the Anlo emblem and motto of one firewood cooking the meal (Naketsi Deka No Dzome Bi Nu). Yes, making sure that even one person on the battlefield could win the battle, since we Anlos didn't have 1000s to deploy after a 1000 were killed! So for us, it is One Man Thousand! I think Tsatsu has just proved again that, indeed, one firewood can cook the meal! Just a few words compared to their 1000s and they are reeling and belching like they are drowning in the Volta all over again! Hmmm!
Even his uncle Sam Okudzeto (where was this "uncle" when his beloved cousin was being steamrolled into Nsawam under all kinds of strange legal shenanigans such as under a law which was passed after Tsatsu guaranteed that loan to Valley Farm, padding the SC, etc., by his political cronies and bedmates?) was alarmed by the power the smallish, short man packed! Ele kpi do ga wui. "He is short but wears an iron armour." Well, he got his opportunity to vent his spleen and he did! Hollering about it won't change a thing! You blokes don't have the monopoly to be maligning and abusing respectable people, so bugger off, all of you!
And, as for the Veepee, he said nothing contemptuous at all. H merely said he was cocksure of their case and was surprised it wasn't 9-0 thru'out. What's wrong with that? He does not owe anyone any apology for saying something as innocuous as that!
