I spent almost ten years abroad before going back home and to my dismay, the place is just as it was when I left. Nothing new has happened in terms of development in Navrongo. Can you believe that the MP lives in Accra about 98% of the time? He only comes to Navrongo and organizes a meeting or two and then flies back to Accra. And when people ask why this or that has not be done as promised in his electoral campaign, all he has to say is "The government has'nt allocated any funds to me for me to do my work." And instead of the people holding him responsible, they rather turn round to blame the presidency forgetting the fact that the presidency is not in Navrongo to know at first hand what is going on there. It is the responsibility of the MP to get things done by following procedures for doing such things, which I believe are provided by law.
It is time we hold people in government positionns responsible should they fail to do their job well.

You got it all wrong. The author's argument is that Northern politicians don't help their communities, but rather create seams of dependencies and divisiveness. I just added that the North does not have to depend always on govt and politicians. The people can take initiatives and development into their own hands. What is wrong with saying that?

I do not, (and never have)hold brief for politicians of that description because the failings of many are all too familiar to me.
However the writer is wrong in concluding that "northern politicians" have not helped to develop the north.
Let's take education and the creation of the University for Development Studies. Is the writer seriously suggesting that the "northern politicians" in the Rawlings government did not have a significant say in that project becoming reality?
