I have read the article as well as the comments so far made and I noticed that almost all the comments were not premised on good reasoning.Someone has faithfully and sincerely suggested in a well reasoned article that Kumasi or Sunyani be made the capital and all you can contribute is that "kumasi can only become the capital over your dead body". Are you saying that the choice of Accra by the colonialist based on their imperial reason should be accepted without question?I am very much ashamed to be part of this argument.
I am a Northerner but I know that Ashanti's are not tribalistic in nature otherwise one will never find songs and Anglo towns in almost every nook and corner of Ashanti Region. Why don't we have Ashanti Town in other regions?
Have you forgotten that for convenience of Administration,Nigeria decided to move the capital to Abuja.Did that happen over anyone's dead body?
I think we should learn to appreciate our country in unity than in tribal division.Okoampa has never been tribalistic in his writings.I guess some people simply detest him for no reason other than for being an Akan but we should no that he did not become one by himself. The Almighty made all of us.
People should make their comments after reasoned deduction and not just say anything because that will not help anyone.
My pleasure Professor.

Regarding Akans not being tribalistic, it may not suite your purpose to admit that but every tribe do have a bit of tribalism in them. The Akans more so than others. So let's be real. Okoampa may have written an interesting article but it certainly isn't well-reasoned.

K B Asante is just basking in the glory afforded by people who do not know their own history or don't care about it. This man uses every opportunity to portray the Nkrumnah regime as a rational entity, whereas all the evidence points to a superstitious, extremely neurotic body whose agents acted capriciously in all areas -- national security (especially, where they acted on unproven rumours that put hundreds f people in jail without trial) and financial rapacity. He rationaslises these failings which have undermined the quest for good gopvernance in Ghana,m inasmuch as they created thge precedent which has been followed by succeediung governments. K B Asante defended the Rawlings regim ri thew hilt when it was mudering Ghanaians. Where did he do this? In foreign countries where he was an ambassador.
As I say, it is people who do not study their own copuntry's affairs who will lend any credence to the fatuous outpourings of this pusillanimous creature. I don't agree with many of what Okoampa Ahoofe writes, but in this case, he has selected a worthy target.

These people have a funny agenda. They believe they matter more than other Ghanaians. Just watch the TV. A good discussion in going on in English then somembody turns the whole thing into TWI. They do the same thing even in the Church. They go to the market and do all their business in other languages and turn to the Church on Sundays claiming that they speak nothing but TWI and insist that all other languages must be put aside so that TWI can be used. If you dont agree they will go and form another branch of the same church. The other day a radio station interviewing a Ga chief insisted that he should speak TWI because everybody understands TWI. Count the Radio stations in Ghana which use no other language except TWI. Elections are done here in the context of tribal affiliations. Indeed this whole ethnocentricism has even been transported into America and Europe. You get into a bus and Ghanaian refugees believe they should speak TWI to register their presence. So why is anyone surprised that there is an agenda to turn Kumasi into the capital. Ashanti's can pull out of Ghana if they so wish.

I have a problem and am not allowing anyone to confuse me. I am not talking about myself. I am talking about an attitude which one tribe in Ghana is showing. What they are showing is that they matter more than anyone else,in this country. They want everything for themselves alone. They also want the capital. Their thinking is the same as in the early centuries. If they think the capital should go to Kumasi Let them provide the money and logistics for it or they can pull out of Ghana. After all they have said that in the past and the history books have recorded it. Everyone else is fed up with this Ashanti thing espoused even by some intellectuals.

What will anew capital do to move us forward when we do not change our attitudes? Build it and we will position kiosks and containers everywhere, throw garbage around and defecate in the open, disobey traffic regulations and build on waterways, post posters everywhere and build churches in every nook and cranny and then WHAT with a new capital???
Let us focus on changing our attitudes and our existing capital will be suitable for everybody, Ga , Fante, Ewe, Gonja etc etc and sorry I left out Ashanti. Enjoy your day

Mr. Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., PhD. I am sorry to say that your reasons for advocating that Kumasi should be made the new national capital is not what we need at this 21st century. Just as Accra is currently choked by the mess of slums, Kumasi suffers the same fate. I think those who are proposing a second capital are thinking in line with what Nigeria did by creating Abuja a modern city. A city in which every piece of land is owned by the state and not private individuals who are prone to doing things without regard to rules and regulations. One way of cleaing the mess of a capital like Accra is what Nigeria did to Lagos. So please it is not whether the city is old, traditional or etc but something else

This is not the business of English its the business of Engineering. This PhD holder should be made to understand, Kumasi, Sunyani etc from engineering point of view and modern requirements are not suitable for second capitals. You are in US and can easily get those information. Secondly Ghana has already done that work and did come out with a cite during Kufuors administration but due to reasons best known (traditionally politically, tribal etc)to the politicians who are non-engineers, its still hanging.
If anything at all Tekyiman will be the best but it seems Dr. Ahoffe is looking at it from the english language point of view and not Engineering. Another fiasco in the pipeline. When will we allow the engineers to do their work effectively in Ghana. All engineering projects in Ghana are owned by Ministers and this man will soon join them. Please do assist in telling us how we can post information on this site. All of us need the engineering ideas not tribalism.
