That's what I also thought when I read this. Why is it that it is the government that must be directly blamed if this guy cannot transform his talents into production. We are now operating a brutal laisser-faire economics and while government must provide the enabling environment, government cannot give funds to particular individuals. I think the government has an investment promotion unit under one of the ministries (Industries?) where people can turn to for help. I understand Apostla Safo went there but could not get the help he wanted. We must know why he couldn't get that help before we start blaming government.
What the Apostle needs is venture or risk capital. This cannot come from government. Some individual who will know him at close range must invest in him. This is a risk. If he seeks a loan from any of the private banks or investment banks, they will be taking a risk in giving him a loan. If he has not succeeded in getting such loans, then it may be because the banks reckon the risk level to be too high. That is not government's fault.
I suspect there are many Apostle Safos in Ghana who also need help. Look at all the brilliant mechanics in Suame or Kantamanto who can copy many complex things made overseas. And the boys around Circle who can repair any mobile phones.
They say Apostle Safo is illiterate which will make things more difficult for him. Perhaps his knowledge is practical rather than theoretical and he will need to join with others who will provide that bit which is lacking.
We should talk about the best ways of channeling talent into productivity at the level of Apostle Safo. We make things too easy if we just blame government.

Some of you just simply indulge in issues that you have no understanding of. Our National issues are compounded by greed, selfishness, tribalism, pull him down mentality and stupid partisan politics on the part of our leaders. That have been the bane of our developement
Someone with an Ewe name belonging to NDC could have a well advanced developed business plan with every strategy on earth but can't get a loan and would not get a support from an NPP government or anything from the bank. The same could be said by an Akyem or Asanteman belonging to NPP in NDC era. So it is NOT only about funding, but support and encouragement from your government to begin a car assembly plant.
Can you wrap your mind around the fact that you have to pay astronomical tax to retrieve your car at the ports? Those who imports cars have colluded with both parties to make it harder for anyone to bring Cars to the country, let alone assembly cars. That is the sad part which many don't know. None of the party is willing to amend those laws because brand new cars are being doled out to the leaders anytime they want one.
Have you seen how Agambire is being supported and promoted by the Mahama administration? The laptops distributed to the NDC foot soldiers were from where? Just try to the ministries and try to get a license to import laptops and phones in commercial quantities and see how hard it would be, let alone to have a a phone manufacture in the country. Did Mahama not cut the sod to open whatever 10 billion city with the Agambire and Ali Baba team, even though they did not have any money.

The article says the Apostle wants to order assembly plants from China and India but to go into mass production but these countries will not want to provide him. Should the government negotiate with the private companies in India and China to make assembly plants available to the Apostle? But manufacturers in these countries will sell to the highest bidder or even anybody at all. And there are assembly plants in Ghana too (or there were???) Mark Cofie, a private individual, was assembling Mazda cars even in the 70s.
I smell something fishy or wrong in all this Apostle Safo thing. We must find out if some government agency is thwarting his efforts so that somebody can be held responsible. If it is the private banks which will not give him loans, we must also find out why?
Like someone said earlier, it will be better if he concentrates on developing specific technologies (spare parts) to start with. He can sharpen his clap clap to control tv techniques alone to a level he can sell it to a bigger company. Surely, if he can't go it big at once (by manufacturing a futuristic car, for example) he can start from specific niches and expand from there.

It’s a shame, just a pity how we never learn from the past mistakes or even try to replicate what has worked successfully in other countries. Its just sad that our country has no sense of urgency or planning for the future. Even where the plans are laid out clearly, we never get to implement them.
All we do it pump untraceable millions into companies that “claim” to produce laptops in Ghana whiles these assembly plants don’t even have the capacity to assembly 100 laptops per day.
Our priorities are just misplaced.

it all started when we had a block factory to repair, he apostle told my boss in passing that it can be done and he will send his workers to get to him. we never heard from him so i was task to go search and locate and remind him after calling several times and no response i believed i had the wrong numbers
i went on line , fb, sent him and his office lots of mails and called several fone lines, wait and wait no response. i told myself this sites must be fake, i drove to gomoa ( on of the towns) where his base is i was told i can not even see any one and that they are all too busy. i was given a number. i called the number and asked if the sites and all that are that of the great apostle the answer was yes.
i was then given a number to call in tema as i was based in tema. i called the number went to the factory saw the manager and took him to our factory several times. took our number that they will price the job and get to us.
i have since called several times this was all in 2011 till tomorrow i have not heard from them.
tell me stephen is this good enough.
now lets us go to his bus business.
if you want some of the ill mannered drivers in tema u just turn to the drivers of imperial express. speeding like mad.
let me bore you with this i never worked in valco but their drivers were one of the best you could ever find. ( i was living in community eleven ) their bus drivers we trained to drive properly and respect other road users no one will tell you they took and still take safety seriously. you will never see a valco car being driven badly in town. that is what i call a good corporate image.
stephen there is a word called corporate image and we as Ghanaians must respect that word. if you were in my shoes will you be happy and pleased about the apostle works. you may argue that it is his workers not himself but he needs these workers to make it.
if before you buy say a laptop and you call a shop several times and no one minds you, your mails are not responded to will you go ahead and buy from the shop.
in my area where i live when i search for wireless i see a cloud service with a fone number. i have called several times no response will you go ahead and use that service. if tomorrow i am a manager or a director will i not stay far off that business no matter how good people say there are.
i told a friend about my experience with the apostle who was once in government and he told me about serious other blunders and spoilt chances from the apostle end both during npp and ndc regimes.
i then believed that we can not blame the politician in all this.
the apostle and his managers must up their game and people will rather chase him.
let me give you one good example before i hang up Mr owusu. try following both RLG and TECHNO. rlg has got all the government contracts and free laptops deals etc but people do not trust them as their products are bad very bad customer service the least i say the better. techno do not have all this but people chase their services as there are providing a good service.
do not look what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.
i rest my case.

Everywhere, inventors approach financiers (banks, companies and other sponsors) and demonstrate the feasibility and the economic gains of their inventions. When the financiers are convinced of the economic profits, they RISK and put money into the mass production. It is then after the govt may allow allow some tax holidays and incentives for a given amount of time.

You're right, James. Apparently, despite Safo's supposed genius and inventions, no one thinks he is worth investing in. The banks don't want to fund him. Government agencies don't want to promote him either. There's something lacking somewhere. The man may be a technical genius but he can't come up with a serious workable business proposal that will entice venture capital.
Ghana is not like the USA which has an abundance of venture capitalists willing to take huge risks. People in Ghana want sure returns for their investment and if they see that Safo can't give them that assurance, they won't fund him. It is not their fault.
It is possible that this man can be given a lot of money and he can still fail. It is not enough to be able to invent things. You must find a way of bringing your inventions to the market. That act should also be part of your genius. You can't go blaming someone else for not helping you.

Yes,the High Priest has spoken!I remember Nana Drobo the TraditionalMedicine man reputed to have had a cure for HIV AIDS.The then health minister for Cote d'Ivoire came to Ghana ,organised a press conference and appealed to the then Govt./Health Ministry to take his claim seriously and support him since there was proof that he had the cure for AIDS.This was after he had treated a prominent white French man and actually cured him of the disease.
Nothing came of that and to cut a long story short,he was murdered after returning from Japan at the invitation of some medical institute...!ON his return from Japan he had intimated that they tried to kill him in Japan after he had refused to sign some bogus agreement to the effect that he co-discovered the cure with them, and that some highly placed Ghanaian medical doctors were behind the attempt. He said he would reveal their names at the appropriate time.Sadly he was murdered before that could happen.
Honestly, even though I am very very proud of my African heritage, when it comes to issues like the one above,High Preist,I'm inclined to say that Africans and their political leaders are some of the most stupid fools on Mother Earth! But then it is the foreign value systemwe have adopted that is killing us.

So where is the prototype model of his car for which he is seeking funds for an assembly plant?
And if his genius lies in the organisation of his church for what invention is he being touted as a genius?
This write-up seems to make unsubstantiated assertions and seeks to blame everybody for the apparent lack of progress of this apsostle without telling us the true measure of the man's technological achievement. Telling us about what Mr Akutteh and Mr Daniel Danso tell the writer of the piece does not advance the argument any further than just that. This is the sort of beer bar charivari which we Ghanaians sometimes take as gospel truth. Asian electronics and computer entrepreneurs have achieved so much without any government subsidies or support.
Finally, have the so-called inventions and technological breakthroughs by this genius been openly acknowledged by the scientific and engineering communities in Ghana?
If the apostle wants to replicate what others have done successfully elsewhere in the world, by all means let hism do so by approaching banks and other financiers in Ghana and elsewhere. His success in doing this will be a measure of his entrepreneurial acumen. We should not be maudlin and point accusatory fingers at goveernment, as Mr Atta Owusu does in his piece here, if he is not being successful as an entrepreneur qua entrepreneur.
