Our students don't have analytical thinking because they are spoon fed. They are made to memorize formulas, not to apply them in scenarios.

All I can suggest to Ghanaians who want to 'crawl before the walk' can take a leaf out of Rwanda. A nation that came out of serious atrocities, and are without any of our rich natural resources.................
Please check on the gradual process they are making.
We think we are too smart for our own good! And the results of our corruption, our inefficiency, educated illiterates are there for all our citizens to see. Nothing to show for but, ABJECT POVERTY!!!!!!
NO! We are NOT failing.....we have failed! Yes! I chose Rwanda, because they are doing waaaaayyyyy!!! beter than us. Even when it comes waste disposal and many more others.
Did any Ghanaian know that Rwanda is one of the cleanest nations in Africa?
I guess not! The educated illiterates misleading the nation are busy speaking 'big', 'big' english for NOTHING!!!!!!!!! Teaching our kids subjects in 'lingos' of no benefit to our nation.
People may or may not agree with me but, it's about time we challenge our minds and debate a way forward to benefit GHANA!!!!!
GOD BLESS GHANA!

Ghana education system is failing not because of lack of technological tools for classroom instructions but because our education system was not built to support practical applications of theories. In the Americas (Canada and USA) and all across Western Europe not every classroom has the interactive boards, computers and overhead projectors and yet it is their education structure that has helped produce qualified graduates to meet the needs of industry, research and schools. Why do we still believe in the power of 4-year university degrees (or advanced degrees) relative to technical education? As a nation we have mistakenly accepted classroom earned credentials to be synonymous with wisdom and as such Ghanaians here at home and in the Diaspora are most likely to acquire advanced degrees from God knows where and are more likely to be appointed, promoted and or obtain cushy jobs. But force these "wonderful" degree holders to apply their knowledge in the creation and or building something from scratch and they will be at a loss. A clear example is the fact that Dr. Bawumia supposedly obtained his doctorate in Finance and or economics and yet Ghana has crowned him foremost in statistics. Is Dr. Bawumia the one and only Ghanaian with a PhD in economic and or finance? What happened to all the other economic and Finance PhD holders in Ghana? Did they not need statistics for the same discipline? What we have in Ghana are people who prefer degrees more than the knowledge and or the understanding and application of theory.
In the end we end up with college graduates sitting in air conditioned offices while the untrained laborer are made to repair engines, try to build roads and bridges and or collect data for studies that require accurate data collection and methodologies. Interactive boards and computers were not around and yet people in civilized and developed nations were able to develop. They did not wait on advancements to develop. We pay for mediocrity in Ghana but hate the truth because do criticize our political and so-called intellectual elite is to go against the demy-gods of Ghana.

Ironically, in the catgory of "Teachers' Years of Experience", Ghana is up there with England, The Netherlands and others. What it means is that we have teachers that are just going through the motions, imparting absoluteley nothing and still taking their salaries from the hapless Ghanaian taxpayer in addition to huge remuneration in "Extra Classes" fees.
One boy said it all about the BECE examination candidates in Tema, "Our teachers took monies from us to be given to the invigilators so our teachers can help us. They just called out the answers."
If there is any doubt about it, Afari-Djan's use of educated illiterates for voodoo "transpositional errors" fame is the clue. Ghana is truly a failed state!

The writer has said much about our perennial falling standards in education and he has done so in succinct style. In the 1990s I came into contact with some UG students and my fears about the falling educational standards were more than adequately confirmed when one student's reputed academic brilliance turned out to be a hoax and a huge disappointment for me. Mfantsipim, Adisadel, Achimota, WGHS,Holy Child Cape Coast, etc are all shadows of their former selves which earned them worlwide acclaim. Some skeptics will argue we've not deteriorated but other countries in Africa have done exceptionally well and have managed to catch up with us.That's a fallacy. We cannot massage the truth and expect to record some growth.Instead we'll plant our feet firmly on the recovery road when we stop fooling ourselves and approach the problems in education realistically . Successive governments have failed to come to grips with the importance of education in our national development and have only given lip service to growth in the educational sector. It's time to stop the head in the sand approach and start talking to those who know like Teacher Kofi.Let's get rid of the wet blankets in the educational system. The government must also go beyond the lip service and invest in education.
we are a nation of jokes we are jokers.
