Right now, the USA is clamping down hard on Coal-powered Facilities to either have them modify to pollute less or shift to other cleaner sources of Power.
Where I live in New Hampshire, USA, the major Power Producing firms have come to accept the Public preference for cleaner environment and have mounted an elaborate scheme to either phase out (or adopt a cleaner processing of) Coal as source of Energy.
It would interest folks to know that Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) has introduced Wood Chips, and Cocoa Shells obtained from Lindt Chocolate Factory to limit the Coal source significantly.
The State of New Hampshire is currently pushing the same Electric Power Utility firm to close its other Facility that uses Oil in generating Electricity. The Company takes its responsibility to the environment very seriously and has taken measures to meet the expectations of the State.
So, we in Ghana, must understand that if those who first went into that kind of Power production have seen it compelling to abandon Coal and Oil for producing Electric Power, we should not foolishly ignore the reasons for doing so and plunge into the same pollution crises.
If VALCO really has the Nation's interest at heart and not only after its revenues, it should abandon this idea and lead the other Industries into the new paradigm of Green Power.
Thanks, Mr. Thompson for leading this crusade to save our environment. I hope the Government would take this most seriously.
