Only those who don't understand the processes and the meaning of FOSTERING and of ADOPTION would believe this story. There is always a big gap between fostering and then adoption of which the parents could have filled their papers. Besides there is always a visitation period during which the Barwuahs could have maintained regular visit to see their son, Mario. The Barwuahs seem not telling the truth about the reason(s) for their son's Mario'sMany African especially, my Nigerian friends did same and they have lost their dear children through adoption because they didn't want to provide care and support for their children growth and development during their early years. These friend though had become parents as students, were more interested in their studies than discharging their parental duties and responsibilities. They though they had free parent care for their children hardly visited them at the foster homes for the foster parents who simply showed appreciation and love for these children. The foster or the adopted take charge of the children, care, provide emotional support, pplan their education and future carrier.In turn and naturally, the children grow up to know and accept the foster parents as their natural mothers irrespective of social backgrounds, gender, colour, disabilities etc. Most of the time, it is only when these adopted or fostered children have become famous that one hears all the noises from their biological parents who had abandoned them during the early stages of their lives. The Barwuahs must be real and must stop the uncalled for noises.

In the USA we have heard families killing their kids when situation get worse. Even some family members kill their children in order to persue a newely found lover in the USA. One thing Mario should know is his parents did not meant it for evil. Look, I had to send my son to Ghana to live with my family due to the conditions in the house we lived in when we were in Verona. We tried acquiring the government flats but, we were told it would take 5 years. The condition of the house we lived was not good for my son because, during winter time the heater never worked and the land lord said he wouldn't fix it. We had to use gas cylinder which was dangerous in two ways, health wise and the risk of setting ourselves on fire. In this situation imagine that I had an Italian family friends who I would believe that my son would have a better living condition, I might have done the same without thinking that I would have to fight the Italian family sometime when I feel that my living condition is changed. People should not judge the Barwuah family, Mario, wouldn't understand his parents but, the public must not judge this man if they never went through what this man went through before he made that tough decision. Ask me why I left Italy to the United States when I had the opportunity? I have lived here for over 14 years with my son who is almost 18 years now. Most of us who lived in Italy had a very horrible living conditions that we could never tell our folks in Ghana, believe it or not some people lived in better homes in Ghana than they did in Italy. However, others had the opportunity to get better apartments to rent. Mind you some Italians would even tell you they don't rent their apartments to "Neri' (BLACKS0, as my wife and myself were told one day, hence my decision to leave that country.

I believe both parties are being economical with the truth. The Barwuahs are not telling the world how in the world did a Ghanaian parent give up their son to a rich Italian family? For safe keeping? There was a reason, illness, hardship, may be, that resulted in the Balotellis playing greater role in the life of the child Mario. Mario grew up in a different environment and granted that the Balotellis brainwashed him, he still recognizes the fact that he has other siblings and communicates with them.
If the Mario turned out to be a bum, his biological parent would have never remembered him let alone to count on him for anything. At this point, all I can say to the Barwuahs is to allow Mario to be who he wants to be but use his siblings to at least get the truth and the whole truths to him. A parent (biological or adoptive) will always remember the good days spent in the life of their child. Keep that memory sacrosanct and do not allow money or fame destroy it.

He might have been at fault at some point during their sojourn in Italy which might have led to this issue with his son.
Some children handle certain occurrences which affect them differently, Mario might have been hurt seriously at some point in his relationship by his biological parents.
Mr Barwuah, please eschew pride and find a more appropriate way (perhaps through Mario's siblings) to approach him to reconcile.

Most Ghanaians living outside Ghana do not speak their mother tongues with their children and are therefore confused about themselves culturally. You meet teenagers who will tell you , "My parents are from Ghana, I was born here and I do not speak Ghana."
The language has a lot to do with culture. If we speak our local languages with our children, we can explain to them when things are difficult. We can tell them about the exploits of our forebears, how they managed with very little.
The Fashanu Brothers were given away to foster parents soon at birth, but they stayed in touch with cousins and aunties and eventually played for Nigeria. This should serve as a lesson to all Ghanaians living outside Ghana, but will it?

Due to Mario's health conditions they sought help from the Italian Government to offer them a craetaker's help for their child until they were able to do so themselves. This kind of arrangement happens in responsible countries like Canada and the US. In the US and Canada, the government would have helped the parents financially to take care of the kid in their own home. Italian attitude is hostile to immigrants, and to especially black African immigrants. The arrangement with the Balotelli's was supposed to be temporary care taker relationship, but they stole the kid with the help of the Italian Government.

Look you guys should ask the living conditions that we endured during those years, I left Italy in 1998 so may be things changed to be better for most but, as far as I know I am glad I moved my family to the United States. People should stop pointing fingers on this family, if you would have the opportunity to know how many African children died in Italy due to all kinds of circumstances you wouldn't even think like what you feel this Mr. Barwuah went through in his head before making such difficult decision.

We Ghanians understand and believe all what you are saying because we have a culture as a people. In Ghana if you do not get pregnant and give birth, no others child could become yours. Family members, friends or even strangers can give a helping hand by taking a child from poor family into their home to live with the child but he can never become theirs. I think what happened was that the Bawua's did not understand fully the risk they took. They believed they could take advantage of the rich Balitolis to give their child all the help he needed and then in the end get their child back. The lesson for all Ghanians and other Africans is that "Stick to our culture, let it be the guiding light to your feet" He who has no culture has no respect in the world. There are too many of us with foreign names, cant speak their mother tongue, etc. Our culture is beautiful, and it identifies us as a people and brings us respect. The Bawuah's deviated from it and that is the punishment for that. I'm sure Balitolli will grow out of the grips of the rich Ballitollis and come back to apologize.

But really as for you the biological parents you are no longer in the picture--because he has parents (albeit adopted--but still parents. Obviously, Mr. Bawuah--you have not been there for him all these years--so he doesn't really know you as a parent (father). Just supplying the seed is not enough.
So just pray that he will come and find his siblings on day. That's all you can hope for. But it is a good story--because your son is alive and doing well.

If Mario was adopted by the Balotelli's he would have become an Italian citizen automatically. He became a citizen when he reached age 18 and that means he was not adopted but was a guardian of he family.
Why the guardianship, only the birth parents and the Balotelli's know. Half of the story is coming out. The other piece will be in the guardianship papers/Ballotelli family.
Whatever the story, Mario is now a grown man and can make up his mind. He is cool with his brother Enoch, sis Abigail and the mom. Why not the DAD? That is for him to explain but speeches like that from his Dad will not help.
